Yep. I remember that. They hung out with us at The Pines for a day. Then we were in, Cool-Tool, South Park, etc. Ken and the Rupe brothers were always super cool. Too bad Chipres didn't hang with us too....Rupe said he was to busy doing sprints at the hotel. hahahaha That was a great time!! Inspired the heck out of me, always tried to do the same when I had the chance.
I saw Ken this summer at Trumbull. Looks like with a little practice he could still lay the skills and horses down. I was trying to convince him to come back and represent NY and beat Farside and the boys. Can't see him selling out and clipping in though..........hahahaha.
Tim, nice pic....but your nuts bro! Too cold for that.

I always liked the way Kakouris rode too. Maybe Ken has some stories about him, I'm sure they rubbed many an elbow....
I actually got to race Kakouris in Memphis probably 1990. Snapped him from lane 8 and cut him off....hahaha. Hung out with him most of the weekend. It was way cool hanging with someone I used to look up to....

Me and Timmy became sorta close...as close as you can with your competition anyway. He was good people. I just finished watching "Joe Kid On A Stingray" and have to say it was really well done. I really liked seeing some of those guys 20 some odd years later! Highly recommend it.

Who??......hahahaha
Yockel (sp?) was way fast. He rode for Sundance up until he beat Mikey King at South Park. Then he blew up big time. That's a tough draw having him in your motos at every national.
I remember one summer having Jicha in every moto. No perfect for you....hahaha. In open I would always get Craig Reynolds....fast and smooth. Wasn't fair.
I raced 3 classes at the nationals too. Plus 80 laps of practice....
Balmy 45 today.

Whitey,
Almost looped out bigtime over that jump. Not sure what happened to Kakouris after that pic was snapped, but after I landed with the binders on, Richie came out of the first turn with the lead. I'm just thankful he was far enough back in the points standings. Tim was a cool guy that always rode me clean.
Invisibleman1,
Thanks for the kind words. I raced back in 2000/2001. Won a few Nationals, broke a few bones..LOL. I am pretty content watching my boys race and chillin in the pits. Last time I tried a gate start I threw my back out. Getting old sucks.

spring is coming in upstate NY!
I talked to Goracy a few weeks ago and he will be getting back into racing with his kid. I should probably call him again to make sure he gets a bike.
I'll probably be racing a lot of locals, probably the state series and a few regionals.
I've been running so I'm in somewhat decent shape, but biking is soooo much harder... I can feel the leg burn already when I think about riding the rhythm sections. I've got another year + before my class gets a little easier - 40 & over. Remember the dads that used to race back in the day? haha it was a laugh... it's not like that anymore!
I guess Goracy has one of our friends photo albums which I've been trying to get my hands on since last fall. There's got to be some good pics of old EBA races in there.
Dawn Robbins set a date for the EBA reunion, it's August 19th. Not sure what the activities are yet.
That's the Utica update.

ok,so my elbow is mashed potatos,MRI monday,to check the lig...tennis elbow progressed into bowlingballs-swellbow..i did however let it heal 5 weeks...then i did gates for 2 hours. dumb.
lets hope i dont have to go under the knife, either way,i'm out for a while....mark sounds like your training for something? mmmhmmmmm. i know you still have your Gators...
billy robbins still has the can-am gate,i dont think he's been sleepin' on it..
in other news sheep hills is what is used to be,all over again....and i get to sit and watch.
rackin frackin frickin.....august 19th?
hmmm....dj & whitey better be buying me loads drinks, since i have to fly from california.,,ahahahhaha
and you know we have to leave early to make sure county sweet is still open. "haha yeah great seeing you guys ahhaa bye"...'ooooooh i wonder if they still got them tshirts......' hahahaha
whitey
Mar 24 2007, 11:03 AM
Too bad about the tennis swell-bow....maybe next time you won't do a thousand gates. We aren't young anymore. I remember practicing at Cool-Tool to the point of exhaustion....hahahaha.
If you make it back to Roch cha cha, the country sweet is on me. We have to hit up Nicky T's while were there too.
Sounds like Mark has got some secret training going on. Mark and Ray are going to be bringing it from Syracuse. Gotta start training DJ for the big event. Gotta pull Jimmy out of retirement to flash the manualing skills. Believe me he still has it after all these years. I am going to be the TM of "The Pines Crew" hahahaha
Just watch out for a Blue Falcon or a Red Huffy!!
Oh yeah I heard about this "spring rumor", but I don't believe it.
Mark-not so sure the 40 & over class will be any easier. But good luck! Things definately aren't the same in the OM class like bitd....

Gotta have the Country Sweet. I always have at least 2 bottles. 1 in the fridge and 1 waiting on deck.
Tim-that ewok thing is cool. I can only imagine what the chainsaw massacre was. Probably like a bulldozer flattening 10 years worth of digging in 2 hours. I wonder if Ken Aman could ride THAT with his handlebars sideways.....hahahaha Only way I could stay on that thing would be to hit it at full speed....
I'm not sure what is better the wet wipes at CS or the shake down you get on the way out.....hahahahaha I gave a guy $5.00 once and he started to cry..........

Apr 18 2007, 12:36 AM
That's pretty sick! You still have some mad style for an old man......hahaha.
You got to do some digging for your jumps. Nothing is worse than hitting a log at full speed when the board moves. The key is getting the little kids all pumped up about the jump and have them dig for you....
Anymore stuff??

Dave there is a friend of mine that owns land south of Canandaigua Lake that is in the process of building a freeride park (MTB) and the stunts are huge...I may need a new bike! In fact Dave at The Bike Zone is trying to get me this bike, and a little sponsorship from TREK. The guy with the park is from Fairport: Dave Royka.

Rode all weekend, most of the day at TriCity open house on Sat, and raced at Bridgewater yesterday. 38 going on 39 novice bumped down to 17X doesn't work for me... I didn't do good in that class when I was 17! I feel like I got hit by a bus today. I think I'm going to switch over to cruiser so I can be competitive, at least at locals.
Anyhoo here's my EBA reunion rider:
I'm STILL trying to get old Onondaga pics from Pavlot and Goracy. Goracy was supposed to start racing again, but didn't see him over the weekend. Meanwhile I'm trying to learn to jump again too. Here's a pic from Binghamton a few weeks ago where I was finally able to clear some triples.
