this is a picture of Pete Lancharavich (?) at the Murray World Cup in 1986. Greg Hill right behind him.

Here is Ken Aman at the same race, in B pro running his National Number one he earned in 1985. Super Fast!

Wow, Tri City looks pretty gnarly back in the day. I never raced there until this past fall. It's all refined and smooth as a baby's bottom now. I raced against Chase there and at Bridgewater in "money open" races at the end of this past season. Another guy from the western NY area was there (Tom Murphy?) said he raced some of the old school EBA tracks.

I remember racing at the horsetrack there in MA in early winter 86. As 17X motofiller it was a long drive from Utica.

ok..jokes aside, and they were some damn COMEDY,Dave James and Whitey somehow lifted the 2nd jump at cooltool..."oh big deal" you say??...on the real, that jump was SCARY...i tried 900 times, and maybe did it 3 times,so me and bobby iovanella(sp) just skyed it(landing in the turn)...but look at this..the proper lift-poke-pedal...i was so mad every moto, should i do it? no i cant,i should no wait..i swear, all of us had to be doing 30mph at his 'lift' point even tho it dosent look it..you guys were kings of this-and taught me all the butter style i had..except this....and i'm still kicking dirt mad about it..ahahha

Inviso,
I remember that first jump, it was pretty cool!

I also remember Bobby Iovinella. He was a great guy, and I miss him. He started racing my class right before I moved up here. You heard about him passing on a few years back, right?

Anyone have shots of him they can post?

Oh yeah, that's what I meant. I forgot there was even a first jump at that track, because it was the second jump you had to work.

Iceman
Iceman
I remember seeing one of the B pros hit that jump at full tilt, and he bailed hard...so hard, they said he shifted his rib cage when he hit. Bad deal...
I remember he was from Delaware, and he raced the NY series in my class the year before.

Very cool that you were there! I remember telling the guy to stand on the other side of the first berm, and then just launching straight-off; praying he got a good shot. That was a lot of air, and I hurt my arches when I landed! I always like to point out to people how I used to stop the front wheel from going any further around, with my toe...check it out:
mdurg

Very cool thread.
Great photos.
Cool content.

Makes people realize that New York had more great talent than just Ken Aman.
Ken was definately great.
With the influence of one great racer, others spawn.

Here's a pic I took of Ken Aman back in 1983.
BMXA of San Diego/ NBL "Del Mar Nationals".
San Diego, California.

Ken Aman #5 and Dana Griffin #612 are about to collide in
turn #1.
Dana's little brother and future star, Darwin Griffin #11 crashed too.
Kiyomi Waller #12 in the black, yellow, and white
Haro/ Torker stuff won and tripled that day.
