Check out the pics of my Patterson that's just about ready . I put up pics on the ebay listing forthe Mongoose plate I'm selling , it's the only way I can show the pics of my bike , sorry guys I'm not advertising the plate , just want you to check out the bike . PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR THOUGHTS ON THE BAR STEM SETUP ! I wanted a purple stem , but now it's coming together .......mabye not , the Renthal bars (any info on these ?) I bought on a whim ,but I probably will look for a gold Suntour stem & a set of Brackens bars . Decided to go with Shimano (gold ) Tourney brakes if & when I can find them .....still up in the air on these as well .LMK your thoughts / advice on the bars .

To tell you the truth, my truth anyway, the purple stem has to go. I dont mind blurring years on correct era parts but a early 90s trendy purple on a 1980 Patterson frame? Thats just nails on a chalk board for me. Also, the gold in the pedals has that orange look to it, not matching the gold on the seat clamp and sprocket which is more of an actual gold color. Just my .02. I am working on my own Patterson build right now.

Yeah you're right mabye will sell the stem , the pedals are Fly bikes Ruben Alcantara models orange , they seem to match the kaps on the mags . The fly pedals will be for cruising around on the street & I'll be running clipless on the trails(swapping the red ritchies from my Mtn. bike ) , there will also be a computer on this bike as it will be RIDDEN . Hard to match gold when the Graphite kaps lean towards the orangish spectrum & the headset will balance it out a little . Thanks for the input .

Darn nice rider. Here's the pics of avfan's bike.

I'm with PK ripped, the purple stem just looks to Lakers or VDC-not era correct. I say go Gold Pro-Neck & GT Pro bars. Love that f/f.

That purple neck on the Patterson needs a good dip in some caustic soda & a light polish up (a genuine solution to fixing wrong coloured stuff we had in the early 1980's) & maybe throw on a gold or black Suntour headset lock in there as well. Sweet looking cranks you got there , <drool>
The graphite tuffs really need skinwall tires on them to give them the full retro look , but like you I like to ride my bikes , so a Tioga black walled comp3 on the front & a Maxis M tread on the back is my standard street track setup , like it was bitd.

There are a few suggestions in the tech & restoration section on fading alloy annodising , I'm 1/2 tempted to remove the tires , cover my mags with 30+ sunblock & leave them under my germaciadal UV light to see how much exposure they need to lighten them up evenly. Matching yellow/gold annodising is a b!atch , as the parts back then were both US & Japanese made , so major differences should be expected in the end colour no matter what.

Matts still putting our Patterson long together , Santa Ana GT Pro bars , Bottema forks , a silver tuff or pro neck , single pinch flites , with a set of yellow or black sunshine sealed bearing alloys & brush finished NOS alloy UKAI hoops , plus the mandatory new Graphite tuffs fitted with campy flanges to swap around on the bike.Gold DX seatpost too ! + some other 1980's goodies that we have now cleaned up from reserve parts we still have from bitd...Not to sure on what oldschool pedals to fit to it Skyways ?? but some new DX 30's will be on it when it's getting jumped & ridden around , might try to match the fresh coating on them to a Japanese yellow/gold.
Like most rider builds you play it by eye with what you got at hand , then buy a few small parts to finish it off.

Please don't put a yellow & chrome chain onto your bike ,
chrome or chrome & black , or just black was the chain of choice & availability back then.

Patterson's are always sweet looking & riding bikes if you do them right.

I hope the bikes computer is period correct , an Apple ][
with twin 5 1/4 floppy drives should be suitable but mounting it all , should prove very interesting. <heh>

I really appreciate Sk8bones for posting the pic & the comments as well . Jetbalck on what you said :Like most rider builds you play it by eye with what you got at hand , then buy a few small parts to finish it off.
It's the last little things that can make or break the look of the bike . Absolutley no colored chain even though I do wanna get a chrome 3/32 . Yes SELLING THE STEM !!! I'll run the bars 'till I get a set of some chrome ones . I've seen pics of gumwalled tires & they (to me ) take away the blackness of the mags plus I wanted to get updated tires as to put a couple of new school parts on this ride .

I also have a set of some faded red VG dropout savers I will run ,'till I can find some gold ones . No chain tensioners for me .
