Nice pics Bob. I'm actually digging the Plexi-Plate!

After I posted those pics of Gude Drive and the old Columbia track, it occurred to me that that was 1979, and it is now 2009, and this will be 30 years later. I was age 15 in the pics and that was 15 * 2 years since it was taken. In other words in a few months I will be 3 times older than I was in the Columbia pic. Time flies.

JOHN LUX TO THE ANNOUNCING TOWER!

DeLux BMX 1982.
The fuel filter broke on the PA tollway. Luxy pushing the RV.

B Pro Dee sleeping in the RV on the way to a national in Ohio or Indiana. (Goshen, IN weekend 1982?)

I cannot remember the name of that other guy. He was maybe the youngest rider and could beat everybody in arm wrestling.

POPS is driving. I am greasing up my eyeballs.

This is incredible... at times I felt like I was the only one who even remembered Shadowood Jumps.

Peter, haven't talked to you in at least 20 years... hope all is well. Was it you and I that did that trick team thing? I thnk it was called VR Trick Team. I don't remember why VR though. (Crazy to hear names like Taylor Williams, Erni Thiel and Blair Elrod too.)

I spent just about every daylight hour after school and on weekends at Shadowoods. If I wasn't there it seemed like I was riding down the forever-long black path that went into Vienna to ride some jumps along that path.

I wish I lived close to my mom because I'm certain she has a bunch of photos from back then. I recall a bunch of us did a "photoshoot" day at Shadowoods and spent the whole day there taking photos of us jumping. Didn't we get all geared up too?

I know I raced a few times but I don't remember where it was. Jay from Rockville was always there so whatever track he was always at was the one where I raced. I remember Taylor made some anti-Rockville t-shirts and wore it to the race track... that was a bad, bad day.

There were bad days and good days but overall I have fond memories of my days on the BMX bike. Over the years I've slowly made my way to road bikes and now race those. Not at a pro level, obviously, but more of a local level with a local team. Funny to think that over 20 years I spent hours on my bike with my friends after school and on the weekends... now I spend hours on my bike after work and on the weekends with my friends. I guess not much has changed.

Been looking into buying a BMX bike again but can't justify the cost... even though they're fairly cheap. I'm afraid I would try to do all the same crap I did when I was a kid.

Hi,

Jeff Kerr is hosting a reunion for riders in the MD/VA/DC/PA area in July. See flyer for details. Help spread the word!
