I always wanted to skate the toilet bowl at Tyson's.
ptrhahn
No doubt, there's just too many people around here to have that kind of fun anymore.
DRAGULA
We got up to the third block up on the toilet bowl.

Now the next question is how many times did you get tosed outta Tysons on your bike?
black shadow
Dude, I can one up you on that. We got tossed out of the Kennedy Center AND Dulles Airport on our bikes after riding all around inside on both occasions...then got stopped by the Dulles Airport Police (who, if you remember, used to patrol the old Dulles Access Road, which is now 267/Toll Rd.) for riding our bikes down the middle of the access road (remember, it was barely travelled back then, but hey, how the hell else were we supposed to get back to Herndon?) not to mention various other huge cool places that were just begging for us to ride right through the middle of. Oh yeah, we also got kicked out of the Watergate for skating the empty fountains one winter night!

Also, the U.S. Park Police chased us all over the mall one day because we were bunny-hopping the corners of the reflecting pool...it was cool, we would see who could bunny hop the furthest out over the water, I think Vince Bickings got about six feet out!

The best was when the Herndon Police chased us on their moped (yes, they had a police MOPED) and while chasing us through the woods behind Bruin Park, we led him down a trail with a creek at the bottom. All three of us bunny hopped five feet or so across it...the Moped didn't fare so well. We stopped and turned around to see Officer Anzengruber (he's now a Lieutenant) trying to pick up his wrecked moped from the middle of the creek. He was covered with mud and soaking wet! It was F'ing hilarious. Of course, instead of going back to help him, we all just laughed and took off, afterall, we were just punks on BMX bikes, right?

Last year I was in D.C. for the Law Enforcement Memorial and, after the ceremony, I drove back out to Herndon and stopped by the Police Department to see all of the guys I knew from way back when. I walked into Lt. Anzengruber's office, mind you I was still in my Police Chief's uniform and he had no idea what I did now, nor had I seen him for years...he took one look at me and simply said "oh ****, I don't believe this".

Poetic justice at it's finest!

I would have paid good money to watch you walk into Anzengruber's office w/ your Chief's uniform on!! Just to see his face when he reallized who you were! That must have been a riot!
Yea, that Torino was sweet. I got that from Carl Mankowski. He always had Redline everything. Vince had the funky Takara until he got tired of getting teased. I'll never forget Vince on that Takara breaking a Kingsbury pedal while at full-tilt. Ouch.

Yes, it was one of my best moments. Hey, I need an NOS blue Uni Seat for the Corvin Replica...If I can get one, I will be ready to build that puppy...if anyone can help, let me know!!!
black shadow
Happy Holidays to all my bro's...Corvin, Scotty, Peter and everyone else back in the Metro area!

By the way, got my present from Kenny, the Marginal Man CD...it is awesome. I haven't heard any of those songs since about 1988 or so. It is unbelievable. Eleven studio tracks. He made me promise I wouldn't copy it and sell it since they are not able to release it due to some bad contract deal, but if anyone wants, I could probably burn a copy and give it to you! This was the coolest present I could've imagined, and he sent me a really cool letter with it too. He's a super guy...now, if I could just talk them into a reunion show. I know! I'll see if i can hire them to play my birthday party this year and I'll invite all you dudes, we'll rent the Sanctuary Theatre or some other church somewhere in NW (alright, here I go dreaming again). Hmmm...do you guys think we could actually pull something like this off? Boyd Farrell could be talked into it easily I believe, and I bet we could find at least three or four other bands that would be willing to get back together, what do you guys think?

Here's the preliminary bill:

Marginal Man
Black Market Baby
Dag Nasty
One of Shawn Brown's bands (Swiz but more likely Jesuseater)
MFD!
Scream?

Forget about the G.I.'s...Stabb told me they would NEVER re-unite. Maybe we could continue to beat a dead horse though, can't hurt to try!
DRAGULA
You might could rent the State theater in Fallls Church
ptrhahn
State theater would be great for us old farts. I took my wife to see the Fixx there. Good venue, and you don't have to worry about parking your car in the neighborhood.
black shadow
If any of you guys would really be into this, let me know. I would give it some serious effort if you think it's a good idea.
Mike Corvin
The place to get would be the Newton Theater, if it's still there. I use to love going to shows there.
All the couches are probably pretty musty by now though...
Mike Corvin
Or that chinese restaurant where G.I. and Minor Threat played that epic show when the joint got trashed that time...
black shadow
That was the King Kong Club in Adelphi, Md. Where the Chinese waitresses were serving alcohol to EVERYONE, even the quite obviously young kids...hahahaha. The Newton Theatre is where we went to see GI and Husker Du...remember? In your van...and it was a matinee show. We skated outside and indulged in many beverages.
Mike Corvin
How could I forget that name - The King Kong Club! - That was probably the raddest show ever.
Yea, we all had our sticks that one night we went in the blue van, that was a cool show.
Speakin' of going to shows with your skateboard, that reminds me I still have to get ahold of Ragin' Ron Thornton. Word is he and Eva own a successful pool service company down in Fred-burg, I've been meanin' to try to reach him I've just been so busy...

I've got all his numbers and contact info...he's doing well. I'll give you his info.
DRAGULA
I rode by a really old school stomp on the CBR today. Navy School off of ox mill (I think ) near Fair Oaks
ptrhahn
Tomorow is going to be nice, and I'm going to fire up the RX for the last time this winter, maybe i'll roll by some of the old joints w/ my camera to show you guys what's become of them.
black shadow
On West Ox Road...I remember it well.
DRAGULA
There were some one or two hips and a Quater.

After that rape it turned into a good bye FXCPD road on even a crappy street bike
Mike Corvin
Back behind Navy School today is a Shore-style mtb spot from what I've been told - you know bridges, ladders, etc.
I still have'nt been back there to check it out yet, but some of my friends told me it's a real rad spot nowadays.
Mike, I heard from Ragin' Ron via e-mail last week. Looked up his company on-line. He is still kickin' it.
Have you talked to Kenny any further about putting a show together? If I can help, let me know...
DRAGULA
I found a Starlit trophy today. Second plae some time in 82. Woot woot
black shadow
Yessir, I have my first Starlit trophy from 1981 right here in front of me...1st place in the "racer" class!!!
black shadow
Mikee C.,
I'll let you know about the show thing, Kenny e-mailed back and said "possibly, if the planets align" that it might work. Pete Murray is in Austin, Texas though, so it would have to be planned aound him making it back here. Still very much in the dreaming stage at this point, but I think it might be really cool. I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of ten MXII and Beartrap II headsets to take the bikes to their next level, and, get the "Corvin Replica" one step closer to completion!

Speaking of trophies, my son took first in the NINE-year old class yesterday at Dayton indoor BMX...he tripled and won his main...cool part is he just turned EIGHT (he was the only 8-year old there though...poor 9-year olds got stuck racing him haha!). Oh yeah, and he beat all the 9-year olds by about 29 bike lengths in every moto and the main (yes, I'm proud, okay, and living vicariously through him).

His trophy has the EXACT same dude as all my trophies always did, even my first one from Starlit...did you guys know they still use the same dude? You know...on a Mongoose with a Haro plate, popping a wheelie and crossed-up just a tad?

DRAGULA
Woodward has the same dude. I also found my first trophy evar. Orange county YMCA third. That was my second race too Saturday night. The Wednesday before I also got a third but they gave out paper certificates with Eriv Estradas autograph for a charity of some sort.
black shadow
Dude, that had to be righteous racing at those tracks back in the day.
DRAGULA
The Y was huge. My first race on wednesday had way over 200 motos. Yes I was scared ****less. My 15 beginner class had 8 I think.
DRAGULA
Black thats way RAD for your son! Please dont be a soccer dad and push him into something hes not into. 29 lengths on a year older though = HHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHA
Mike Corvin
After all these years, the same old dude is still on trophies???
Well, you know now that I've thought about it a minute, it's actually kind of comforting to know. At least some things don't change.
Dude, that is so cool. Congatulations. They put your boy up a year and he still triples!! Yea! That must have felt good to watch.

Here's a picture from the Rockville BMX track practice days that Jay Metzler used to hold. I think this is 1982. Start gate.

Hey there-- I've been trying to find photos of Shadowood jumps and this is the lone one I've found ... Is it OK if I post your photo elsewhere? If anyone else has pics from over there, please let me know. All the best!

Nice pic. Bill Milburn ran the Rockville BMX track. I think Jay Metzler might belong under the colored nipples thread.

Rockville BMX September 1979. This ws the first Rockville Track off of East Gude Drive:

This was the first track I actually raced at. We have a pic of Larry with a clear plexiglass number plate BITD. We were most likely at those races. I remember I was such a novice that in the first turn I was coasting so slowly that I had to push myself along with the inside foot while leaning.

DeLuxxBmxMidWest
Same Gude Drive Rockville BMX track late summer 1979. Larry VonMoss (91). I think the landfill was just beyond the trees a ways.

Check it out: leather gardening gloves, clear plastic plexiglass number plate, nickel Mongoose, brown corduroys. I used that helmet. I swear the padding is wood.
DeLuxxBmxMidWest
Columbia, Maryland 1979. Bob VonMoss (159 MD-2), same helmet. Black Torker.

DeLuxxBmxMidWest
17 Expert at Rockville BMX. Bob VonMoss: yellow helmet; Edgar Hernandez (white shirt); Joel Linnell. This is lifted from a (water damaged) movie.

Nice pics Bob. I'm actually digging the Plexi-Plate!
