Thats Jeff's special cut bike frame & bike bought back to life from the late 1970's & probably looking better than it ever did bitd, no offence meant towards Jeff.
Exceptionally clean & quality build TIM (as usual) but it really needs some SoCal dirt or mud on it somewhere...

TIM needs the Cal Cup Plate! How can you not match it up Shannon? ;)
The frame is from approximately the first production of DG's. Late 75 or early 76. They switched to non cut out gussets very quickly after this. In fact, I assumed they never went into production with the cut out gusset until JPBMX FOOL and an NOS one surfaced.
Those bars are aluminum and were sold by DG plus many other companies. DG offered them in various colors and had a "DG Racer" decal on the cross bar.

Bottema was my idol as a kid and a few years back I saw him at LAX. We exchanged pleasantries and as he walked away all I could think was ...that was Jeff Bottema and he knew who I was ! It was a good day.
Nice bike TIM.

Sweetness....
So, why was the gusset cut?
J.T.
Jul 1 2006, 10:05 AM
The Gusset cracked, much like Torkers did, and cleaned it up so it wouldn't continue to crack...just flex a little more.
The DG bars are awesome!
Sweet ride Tim!

Real history!
I like the grip deal.
I did that a few times too back in 1978.
Cool brake lever sleeve too.
I posted a pic on the DG thread of Bottema
at Rancho running that plate.

Tim, beautiful bike !!! I have several magazine pics of it. notice how much different the chainstays are on the Stu and JB frames !!! those black and white pics are AWESOME !!! and if those bikes could talk...... I don't think there is enough paper to right it all on !
JB hammered his chainstays flat and inward for crank clearance. he liked to run a very short bb spindle and the cranks would hit otherwise.
the dude abused his frames!

Nitro,
So fill us in man.
Looks like you have aquired some jem-original-historical Bottema Plates!
What is the significance of : 3/20/93 on the hand-cut haro Factory Plate?..
Been wanting to ask...
Is your original 60x plate and Tim's original 2072x plate painted numbers?
..pretty darn cool these plates have survived.
I love old plates and what treat to see 'em again -thanks

Sorry for the hi jack, but I have been selling off Jeff's stash. The 195x plate was a hand made Haro plate from 1979.
3 20 93 was written by Jeff's dad after Jeff won a "vintage" race in 1993. The frame he was running with that plate bis on eBay right now. It is the last frame he rode when on DG. No S/N and appears to have thicker than normal wall tubing. Solid bike and a great piece if you are digging Jeff Bottema vintage stuff. It is not abused other than he forgot to use oval washer on the brake bridge.
60x and 1072 were sold by me as well. They have almost paper numbers that have dried over the years.

Ben,
Is the front triangle longer and the headtube steeper than the production bikes of that era?
If so, it is likely one of two prototypes made just before the BMX division was sold to Ed Smith.

I will measure. I am kind of hoping it doesn't sell. Jeff "promised" me this bike many times over the past 6 years. I'm way too cheap to pay market price and do not feel right taking something for free. Tubing is thicker and the top tube is a full 17"....
If it doesn't sell, it stays at my house for now...
