LA Coliseum? Is the guy in the lead Mike Bell? Maybe Johnny Tomac just crossing the flagman?
Cash Matthews
Anthony Galati?
Mike Corvin
Kind of looks like Johnny T from the "style", but I've never seen him with riser bars or a helmet like that.
What year is that? Looks like a Manitou 3 with canti brakes on the lead bike? So, early 90's? Either that or someone needs to update their ride.

Baumert's nickname should be
"Eagle Eyed JB in the place to be!"
I didn't even notice that.
Baumert deserves a prize!

Those O P cord shorts ROCK!!!
old school PK
Yeah, that's Mike Bell & Tomes but the real star is in 3rd place. None other than the newest inductee into the US Bicycle Hall of Fame David Clinton. That race was held in either '85 or '86 at the LA Coliseum. It was between the moto's & semi's at a Supercross race.
I raced that race as well but am somewhere back there behind these guys. I rember going up the peristyle ramp. That was hard but it was cool jumping down.
And yes that is Byronious with the feathered hairdo!

Along with Hellen, I also worked with the infamous MG, refer to the below link story.

That list has a fair amount of BMXers local to So Cal. Rupe, Woods, B. Skinner (tall mfer like me LOL), H. Drew (a name I have not seen since 1980)

Intersting note about B. Skinner. In the early 80s he had and rode a home made rear suspension frame (MTB) that was a copy of the Suzuki Full Floater of the day. Talented guy, and nice!

I remember on that list .............

Tim Tracey. He had the world record for the
highest bunnyhop on a BMX bke around 81'- 83'.

Brian Burger. He had the world record for the
fastest sprint on a BMX bike arond 81'- 83'.
I used to see him at NBMXA nationals in So. Cal a lot.
He was on some small factory team with green and white uniform.
They had a small ad in the mags. Can't remember the companie.s name.

What ever happened to Bobby Woods?

Does anyone know if the 5th place finisher in the Expert class, Gary Denton, is the former 8 time ATV National MX Champion Gary Denton?
I think he was from Chino California.

Howard Drew the Jag team rider!
I got pics of him racing Byron and Kevin Jackson racing
at Van Nuys in 1980.
Stu Thomsen
Byron, is this the race where I tried to jump a set of doubles at the bottom of the peristyle and ended up casing the front side. resulting in a concusion and rebroken coller bone?
Bergman
Stu, Didn't you do a MTB race at the old Carlsbad raceway back in 85 with Pistol Pete. It would be cool to find the results for that race, I won the amatuer race with my cruiser.
Eric
John Piant
Stuart came up short on a set of doubles? Say it isn't so.....lol
