Full Version: ***Does anyone check the Wanted***

I just started out digging through the internet for parts and items that I need for my build here this last month. What I'm finding is that it doesn't matter if you are willing to spend the dough, it's just damn hard to find good items. So back to my topic, I noticed that there are few replys on the Wanted section of this site to anyone's plea for parts. Is this because people just don't want to come off the goods or what?? Besides E-Bay is ther any other golden spots on the net for parts. Oh yea and I need some GT pro bars, And blue arayas to match the hubs I got, Lol. Thanks

I know I always look at te "wanted" section. I've help several people out over the years. Maybe people just don't have what you looking for at the moment. The key is patients grasshoppa.

I'm not sure what you mean. Direct (on-site) replies aren't available in the classifieds, (I don't know why)

Anyway, keep up your pleas, and scrounge ebay. It wouldn't hurt to mention some tradebait if you have it.

Eventually you will get a reply to run with. Seems trading/building/selling/buying are hotter than ever right now.
AndyDiamond
yeah - the calssifieds are locked off so no-one can reply.

Thats what i thought but i did see one that had 3 replys...
RYAN-GT3540
That topic was probably moved to the classified section because the person that started the thread probably started it in this section of the forum. Instead of starting it in the classifieds.
I check the wanted and for sale section before I hit any other section, daily.
Randy
Sad to say but some may refuse to help someone relativly new as yourself, not me, just sayin'.

I read three forums daily, this, tech and wanted. If I have the time to deal and ship I'll email the poster of the thread.

Two things bug me with the classifieds..

1. Abusive spam posting ie; posting multiple wanted/for sale topics for every damn thing your searching for.....every other day.

2. Guys that NEED something. Listen buddy, I'll tell you what you NEED.....how about ASKING politly.

Neither of these are getting a reply from me. Period.

Tips.

Stating how much I'm willing to pay has always got me what I wanted. You'll get no help if your lookin' for a bro deal, whatever the hell that is. Bro deals are at the flea market, hit the road.

Stating what it's for helps too.

Someone here has a spare of anything you could imagine, gar_ren_teed. You need to find it.
Randy
dude, I just saw your wanted post, I forgot another pet peeve, all this stuff

****!!!!!*****!!!!!!*****!!!!!!

Does each of these translate to how serious you are, how much your paying.

ease up, you posted it yesterday

good post, Randy. You always know the score.

Not sure about the bro deals, haven't had one of those yet. But as I mentioned, a trade situation couldn't hurt.

Santa Ana GT Pro bars are one of those things you usually buy to finish off a bike and never have any intention of selling them , I got 3 sets on my bikes , 2 sets that I bought new in the early 1980's , I scored some Andy Patterson GT Pro bars , when they arrive they will be going onto my XL TA & the GT Pro bars off that will be going onto a Patterson long bike.

Some ppl have been known to part with them on Ebay.

Santa Ana Stuff like the pro bars are not only of sentimenatal value to me , but they are possibly the first big Pro set of handlebars ever made , sort of a dawn of a new era , I got no idea where I put the chrome redline v bars they replaced at the time & still don't fret over losing them.

Happy hunting

Randy, I have a pet peave as well, its people being a little too disgruntled. I just joined this site recently and everyone on it has been extordinarily helpful and kind, especially JetBlack, Mcam, and Andy D. But relax "dude" If you want the site to grow and new members to stick around and have a good experience here, keep the negative out of your posts. This site caters to people that ultimatley have needs and wants pertaining to VBMXs', thats me, and I am trying to find solutions to my wants. That is why I asked politley for clarifacation. My post !!!!****, got your attention did it not, now let me ask you, did you read the post or just get upset by my explanation points. I said if you have this item and feel the price for you to part would be high, let me know. Everyone has a price, and its up to the buyer to know whether they can swing it for that product. I'm not looking for a bargain bro, I'm looking for a part.

Randy - I kinda agree with you, but it is almost impossible to read sincerity or a lack of in the typed body of text in the wanted section. I am incredibly appreciative when people respond to my want ads, though I keep the ads brief and to the point.
I hope you have not responded to my want ads because I left out "pretty please!"

Sdillman 17,

I read the for sale and wanted section daily myself. I have listed items in the wanted section and have received some replies and at times nothing. Hang in there and being a new member or older member as I have found has no bearing when someone is willing to part with something.

I can tell you that I have purchased from some new members and old members alike and feel like I had good deals price, shipping and comradery.

Bro' deals, well they are here and the flea market. In fact PM me and I will see if we can work something out on the bars you need. Oh yeah I have the Andy Patterson GT Bars.

Hey, can people not waste my time by heading their wanted or for sale with stuff like:

For Sale...

Wanted...

etc..

Yes, we know you have something for sale/wanted - it's in the damn category already - now what is it?

Can people be more specific?

Instead of:

'Tyres'

head the listing as 'xxxx brand Tyres' etc.

Saves opening countless threads when searching for a set of Comp III yellow labels and finding the listing 'tyres' is for new school black wall bollocks.

Get my drift?
Randy
Sdillman 17, Contrary to popular belief, I don't want the site to grow, I kinda liked it 8 years ago before people like you showed up, I do my best every day to **** off new guys. [pure sarcasim]

My first line was some may look over helping a new guy, not me, thats just my impression. I can't count the times I've sold something to a 1st time poster after welcoming him to vbmx, I always say "send me some photos when your done, I'd love to see your bike", he's never heard from again. I could care less, others dig only trading within their clique. Reality 101.

The rest of my advice [which you publically asked for] are my opinions of how the ball [at least my balls] rolls around here.

BTW, "pretty please" is taking it a bit far
mcam
Hey, I got a good mention! I feel good

My pet peeve, is people, (it mainly seems to be new members), posting wanted ads in the for sale section, or in any other section but the wanted section.... gggrrrrrr.

And, on another note, I dig the blue GT Pro that Randy had..... what a nice bike
TIM
i only trade with Randy. cause he's so darn nice!
sdillman17
Randy, I thought your first post was somewhat informative, but then you had a break down of emotion or something, and it was direct at me so of course I take offense. I'm not a social retard, I can see the flow of this site after only being on it a short while. Sometimes like my original post, I may need some clarifacation. You never know Randy how things work, in 8 years you may be looking back on this and BSing to me about how you were so damn grumpy to me for posting the wrong way on the wanted adds the first time you met me. So I think that in your honor Randy, I am going to include some combination of !!**!!!!* on all my future posts, I might even get crazy from time to time and use some other cool symbols on the keyboard. I also will make sure that if you ever hook me up with anything, good advice, parts, etc. I'll definantly give you your props and or send you a pic. Take care all, have a good 4th of July

As Andy mentioned , the more specific the title you put on your wanted ad's (& possibly any posts placed in this forum) the more likely people are to go in & have a closer look.Having a quick skim thru each of the want/buy sections the titles all look fairly good.

As far as posting stuff "for sale" in "the wanted" section & vica versa , it is a very easy mistake to make wether you are a new member or an old hand.I honestly believe these crossposts are not all done intentionally.

I was _positive_ that I was posting something I had for sale on ebay (a waay back) in the right area then BAM , it turns up in the wanted to buy section , since you can't retract or ammend the incorrect post it just sticks there
& embarrasses you for a few hours or days pending on how fast the section is moving.Trying to back up the wrong post with an apology only seens to make matters worse.

Deliberate posts like this in the for sale section do not help the problem at all.

Wanted section please by RL

Trolling like this is likely to start up a flame war in a section where you can only reply in the title of the post & mess the whole thing section.
It's better to air your problems here where some useful 2 way dialog can take place involving an area that seems to be plagued ?? well maybe just infected , with a few problems that keep on occuring.

I usually try to put WTB or ForSale or something in the title of my requests. That way when it shows up on the start page, ppl can tell what the category is.

All the time I see titles like, Pro Performer or RL20II and it's someone looking for restore or era correct info or who knows?

Just a little tip from the boy from Illinois....
AndyT
Hey! sdillman.....

Where's my coffee??!??!!!!?

If I have any regrets 8 years from now you'll be the 1st to know, dig it?

One final fyi. The blue Araya's and GT Pro bars are fairly common items compared to someone looking for a left sided titainium Hutch hub washer. Common place for these is eBay, the backbone of my initial comments is since these items can be had with a little patience on eBay some here MAY THINK your looking for a better/bro deal that fair market value ON eBay, no matter what your post reads...thats all.

Best of luck to you. Believe it or not, the pleasure is the hunt.
TIM
the odd thing is i hear the same question all the time... "where do you come up with all these gems?" "el diablo has a time machine." etc....

no. i buy 95% of the things you see on down the road on EBAY. its called "looking".

This Wanted section SUCKS!!!!!! Bad, What a waste of time, should not even have it!! Nobody even goes there, people are too worried about how cool they can sound on nthe forums, and never wanna get rid of their stuff anyway!! Hell, I can't even get people to respond to an IM, asking them a question!! All I require is an answer...Geez, if its NO, I can handle it, I am a big boy!!

Dissapointed,
J

You directly asked and got a reply, what is there that I am missing? You only like replies if they are nice?

This is actually not a bad discussion, and possibly worth a seperate thread.

I , like most, keep up w/both classified sections, and am in constant turmoil. Between 'wanted', 'for sale', and ebay; things get out of hand. I end up buying stuff I think I MIGHT need, figuring I could just sell or swap it later for stuff I DO need.

But then this weird disease kicks in, I don't know what it's called, but I love ALL my stuff. And don't want to lose it because I still want all the stuff back that I sold, lost, or didn't lock up properly.

I think there should be an exclusive 'swap/trade' forum for really specific offerings. I'd so much rather trade something I don't need, than have to go thru pricing it, selling it, shipping it, then reversing the whole process for what I want.

I work a LOT of overtime to feed this habit, my house is becoming unmanageable, and no one answered my 'wanted' ad....

Sorry, went out there where the busses don't run...
...I just want to trade some stuff....
hutchheaven
Yeah everybody go check out what I need RIGHT NOW!!!!!LOL!!!!
