This Guy-B photo has been in my photo album since 1988. My ace number one hero of all time, Greg Grubbs

Style for miles and the privateer success story that inspired me for years. Lincoln, Nebraska's finest son (along with Joe Baumert and Tim Lillethorpe).

I remember seeing Greg for the first time at Elkart IN. , it must have been the early 80's. We were blown away by how smooth the guy was. What kind of gearing did he use anyway,it looked like he was spinning a 40 - 16 or something.

I had to post this pic from the ABA archives of the Grubber at Chandler BMX in the early 80's. He's launching it out of the "S" section if I remember correctly. Awesome style!

Yuppers, yes indeed Scotty.. Grubber is 2nd to NONE!!! Style is spelled GREGGRUBBS... One of the many regrets I have in life is that I did not spend the time and effort to groom, train and promote him as an SE Racing Factory Ace like Greg deserved in his brief stint as a rider and friend of mine.. (Well, I STILL value him as a friend! ) He reeks of talent, both on and off the track.. Rip roarin' riding plus intelligence, wit and a humor only matched by yours Mr Towne...
Love u both..

While on SE, Grubbs and Beckering showed up to do an appearance at Bike Path bike shop in Aurora, CO. The old shop was located just up the street from the famed V Jump. (Any of ya got Road Fools 13, you can see modern footage of this still happening jump spot.)
Anyways, after the clinic thing, we ask Greg if he wants to come check out the V.
"But of course!"
So we're riding over there and Greg starts wheelying down the path. Then he reaches down, flicks open the quick release he's got on his front Phil Wood hub, grabs the wheel and just keeps on going. He one-hander wheelied on for another 50 yards or so with his front wheel in his left hand until we got to the jumps.
With his front wheel back on, Grubbs threw down some of the smoothest style, highest airs, and snazzy tricks that any of us had seen that day. Class act.

Thanks for the kind words Scott and Scot. Hey Shannon where did you find that picture ? That has to be from early 82' about a month or so before Linn called asked if I wanted to be on Redline. Those flex fighters were a product of none other than Guy-B and his company Sano products. Seems kind of high to me now. I remember Robby Rupe once looking at my bike and then grabbing the bars and asking how the h*ll I rode it. Slip on Vans ? Must have been pro practice. Good thing I could fill moto's in your helmet there Joe. I know this isn't the favorite OM story thread Scot but, how about the time you gave me and the gang a ride from the track in Miami to the hotel in one of those Lincoln Town cars with the deep trunk. When we get to the hotel we all grab our bikes but Scot leaves his in there. Sure enough when we come out in the morning the whole thing has been stolen. Scot just shrugged and laughed it off. Taught me not to get wound up on race day. And I'm thinking that looks like a 40/16 gearing. Spin to win.

Yo Grubber,
Great seeing you at Lake Perris a few weeks ago. We have that picture in the ABA archives. We have proof sheets and negs for just about every ABA national ever held. We even have some stuff Merle shot at the Chandler JC's track starting about Jan. of '75. I could spend hours in there. I have plenty more shots of you I guarantee it. I saw some just the other day from the Rondo Classic. You're speed jumping right next to Brian Patterson on the trusty GT and you are waering that same helmet in the pix. You must of loved the JT wetweathers eh?? You have white ones on in every photo.
BTW, that's your GT with Trakker stickers correct???
Also, I always thought you were Chicken George Seevers older brother. There is a definate resembalance. LOL!!!!!!!
Somebody post Greg's BMX Action cover, please!
Talk with you soon Grubber!

It was good to see you too Shannon. I forgot how fast people get out of Dodge after a race or I would have stayed and BS'd with you. I liked the wet weathers but even they felt too thick. That's when I switched to golf gloves. Didn't Brian win that Rondo race ? I seem to remember that's when his pro career took off. Was he wearing the Meno helmet ? That is the trusty GT with Trakker stickers. I had those on still from Indy at the end of 81'. I remember standing next to George once and somebody made that comparison and the look he gave us was priceless. I don't think he thought he looked like a dork.

Gary, I'm working on bad TV commercials most of the time but right now I'm helping Todd Huffman and Don Hoffman work on a show for the Speed channel called the MX Files. It's a show on the history of the stars of motocross. If you haven't seen it you should. It takes you back to why you started riding a bmx bike. How about you ?

Shannon, I remember when Brian and Brent and Poulson first showed up in those I couldn't believe it. Everybody tried to blow smoke up their *** and tell them how cool they thought they were but man behind their back we all, and I mean everybody who didn't wear one, thought they were beyond ugly. I think the first five episodes are out on DVD. We're currently working on the next six riders which is Jeff Ward, Jim Pomeroy, Marty Tripes, Jimmy Weinert Tony D and Johnny O'mara. I think the moniker Giant [that which cleanses internals] would be funnier than AA.

Well, I've known John Johnson for about 23 years now, since I was finally able to start racing at age 13. I had to wait due to some surgeries on my feet as a kid. I had a few classmates that raced BITD (Doug Davis was one, Shane Wimberley, Brent Hayward, Rob Severins), but I had to wait til all that cutting was done.
I have a van and I'm not exactly a small guy....and Johnny is one of my oldest (and I mean that in a nice way....as well!) friends. Always glad to help, plus ....we went to Hooters!
While we were getting the TV, he showed me the pics on his phone, I saw yours and he confirmed it, I also saw you at Perris, but I had my kids with me and you were busy with TV type stuff. I'll introduce myself next time.

Geeeze.....I remember that pic like it was yesterday!...lol....I wanna drive, no, I wanna drive, no, it's still my turn to drive.....lmao.
I remember it inspired a friend of mine, and I to try it. Which later evoled into the bright idea of trading bikes on the fly. After a few mishaps we actually learned how to do it. I remember we won a bet at the Rondo Classic one year, and performed the stunt unscathed and without hitting any pillars there.... If there WAS any pictures of it bitd, I don't think I would brave showing them! lol (just add another bike to that photo, and you'll get the idea, ) .... That pic is just proof that you 2 were an inspiration to a few of our injuries bitd....
I agree Grubby, I would like to see Mike get rounded up here too!

Hey Andy, yeah I still have a few pieces there huh. I read that Voris Dixon saw me at the Lake Elsinore national and suggested it to them but I don't know for sure. I thought the Free Agent bikes were nice but they never did give me one...sniff...cry...

We want to see a photo of that Ted don't be shy. Adding a bike sounds hard and I wouldn't have even thought of it. Where are the Utah guys ? Get Poulson in here. One of the nicest guys you'd ever want to meet and so was his mom. Not a guy but a nice person.

lol - oh well - you coined a phrase there.
Who made the Aero shirt for you?
Someone from the GT team used to work for them in the warehouse or something - sheesh - I can't remember.
I thought it might have been a special favour for you.
Still think the Hyper stuff looked pretty rad on you.
greg grubbs
Jun 27 2006, 12:52 AM
I actually made that Jersey myself Andy. Poulson and I were both staying with Karsten Berg the owner of Aero at the time that picture was taken. The warehouse was just a small building and there was one of those t-shirt presses with logo's and numbers and stuff. I knew I wanted to make that jersey but after that Poulson and I were bored and just started to make a bunch of shirts for ourselves. We went a bit crazy and some of the shirts came out a little ugly.

I'll talk with SSpencer and BND, they are our #1 and #2 Utards that come around here. I know they both know Poulson. They should let him know to check this place out if they haven't already. He usually shows at our Utah event each year.
Speaking of Grubber stories, my good buddy Woody Woodruff always tells me about you Greg. He says you were one of the funniest guys he hads ever known. He tells me about this story from Chandler where you cut a picture of Geg Hill face out of BMX Action and then cut the eyes and mouth out and held to up to yours and began giving Geg Hill quotes. He said it was funny as hell. Soemthing about " I'm the BEST!, NO one can beat me, You lose!". Pretty funny stuff. Greg Hill has always been a pretty intense guy. I'm not so sure he would think it was that funny. LOL!!!!!
