Full Version: Why is this not stapmed???

Chevron Envy
The original Hutch seatpost clamps were not stamped with anything at all.

The machining marks are visable on the inside of the clamp - which distinguishes them from various knock-offs.

I have had several original Hutch clamps that were off of survivors and none of the them had the stamps - both bikes were from 84/85 time frame.

Well thank you...

I never knew....

I also just found out that the later "stamped" Hutch clamps are not the same width all the way around. They taper so that the clamp can be tightened. Just a little more info. for you!

Here are some links to a few past posts which also provide some good info on the variety/inconsistency of Hutch seat post clamps.

This link used to have a good image of several sizes and shapes; however, the pic is gone now. It showed a variety of real clamps that would many would have considered (or thought) not real Hutch... as Hutch outsourced to many manufactures... of course, that's not to say fakes don't exist... I'm sure they do.
