I bought these pads about a year ago thinking Shimano made this bike. Did they ever make it? Did these pads go on some other type bike or were they testing the market? The bike kind of looks like a Nikita? I bought them since I had this poster and thought it might be a cool bike to build - but now looking at it it would be pretty pricey and everyone would only want it to part it out!

Tange made the frame.

tange, rhino, it's all good. the pads are way cool, though

I'm not sure that the pads were officially just for that bike - those guys made so much stuff it was probably just another product they offered.

I don't think you'd ever find that dual chainring DX crank set-up. A Tange Hot Heart would be hard enough to find...that particular frame in the picture is extra weird in that it has an abbreviated gusset and not the heart gusset.

I found a Tange Hot Heart frame a few years ago. The one I found does indeed have the heart shaped cut-out in the gusset.

There have been a few dual DX crank sets offered on eBay in recent months - from Hong Kong.

What year is that catalog from? I want to date that MX seat. Thanks.

Martin,

I am thingking that ad is 1980. I have a Shimano post card advert with the same Encinas picture.

I assume the Hong Kong reference means other than Shimano reproduced knock offs? (I do not do e bay).

Hey Curt,

Cool, thanks.

No, the DX cranks being sold here were not knock offs. Lots of Japanese leftovers here.

I did see a set of the DX dual ring cranks go on the Bay last week for $285 - NOS. I was going to bid but I didn't want the dual ring and already have the single DX in blue. THanks for all the info and if anyone would like to sell their frame then maybe I would start on a replica... then again -

The catalog is dated Jan 1981. It is a 8 fold magazine ad. I am going to have it framed one day - but for now I use it for reference on all the parts I like!
