I recently purchased what are said to be early REDLINE V-BARS. The guy says they were on a 00100 seriel number REDLINE bike, which dates the bars to "79" or earlier. I recieved the bars and looking at the welds, I think they might be knock offs of the early v-bars. Does anyone know what the rise and width of the early REDLINE v-bars? Also, if someone has a set of "79" or earlier bars, how clean are the welds?
Thanks for any help...

I have some, don't know the exact date of them, but I think it's around that time frame.

The welds are nice on mine, and they came on a team goose that had matching redline nickel forks (both had redline factory blue on them) and the forks were drilled for a front brake..

here are some pics:

Thanks buddy. What are the width and rise dimensions? Your bars look different than mine. The welds are much cleaner on yours and the knurles are narrower on yours. If your bars are Redline, the bars I got from this guy are cheap knock offs. Your dimensions will confirm this...
Thanks again...

well, I'm at work at the moment, but I could maybe check tonight..

remind me if I forget. Thanks..

Thanks so much... I will check back with you soon. B.T.W. are you interested in selling the bars?
sparky
23" wide
7 1/2" rise.
I have the original bars that came on the MX II that I got in 1979. They have the oval Redline stamp on them as well. -Hope this helps.

Mine are the same shape and everything as the ones that Astrodamus posted. I'm guessing that if you have something that looks dramatically different, they aren't Redline.

Yeah, they are for sale, along with the matching forks, but I have someone that might be interested in the '78 team mongoose frame and the bars/forks as a group, but I will find out for sure (he's waiting on pics from me) and I can let you know by Friday evening if that works with you. If he doesn't want the whole group (he's mainly interested in the frame) then I'll sell them to you. They will need to be polished or powdered, but other than that they are MINT perfect.

Randy said he was interested in the bars, but I e-mailed him a couple times and haven't heard from him, soo....

Thanks guys. The information is proving to be valuable. The guy definately sold me some cheap old imitations, as i suspected. He clearly didn't know what he had and described them completely wrong. Now I have to fight the battle through Paypal to get refunded as he isn't willing to take them back.
Astrodamus- give me a shout if the other guy doesn't buy your bars. I will be sure to get you $$$ quick for them.
Thanks again for your support.

He only wanted the frame, so they are yours, I'll e-mail ya..

Very nice... I have this e-mail address too.

Thanks...

big bry! I've dealt with you before..

this is tine321 from e-bay.
You bought some zap pads from me, and I lost your money order and didn't realize it until after I shipped the pads. You were cool enough to stop the money order and reissue, even though you could have just kept the pads.

Very cool dude in my book. I'm going to hook you up real nice on these Redline bars. It sucks that you got burnt by someone selling fake one's, but hopefully this will make up for it..

Hey there, good to know we have spoke in the past. I remember you as well, I'm 4liftoff on the bay. Thanks for the positive comments. I'm happy that deal worked out in the end. It always pays off to treat people well. I am intersted in those bars buddy.
You're a great guy as well. Like I mentioned above, your imput regards this matter is very appriciated. It's great to know that other guys out there are equally interested in the preservation of O.S. BMX and willing to offer up thier knowledge. Drop me a line anytime and let me know how we can make the deal on the bars.

About the Redline bars - if they do NOT have knurling or a stampe but are Nickel plated - what are they? Still ahe exact same demensions and came on my Proline... How do you tell after that? Very nice clean vintage looking welds. Scared to get rid of them since I replaced with newer style blue Redline v_bars.

I have a similar situation/question:

I purchased some redline v bars off of ebay a few months ago. They claimed to be NOS. I put them on my bike today and they are pretty cool. How does one tell if they are real redline bars or not though? It seems like a lot of NOS redline v bars are on ebay.

pics. we need pics.

Not all Redline V-bars had the same dimensions...
But by the sounds of it(with the crappy welds)
definatly knockoff's......

The welds on the imitations this guy sold me are the dead give away. They are so sloppy, a first period appentice could do a better job. Even if they were made at REDLINE, the bars would have never left the facility. Straight to the scrap bin indeed.
I agree the more pictures the better. I'll take a few pictures of the garbage bars for you guys. Give me your thoughts then.
TeamRob
Here are mine - welds look to be okay to me? I did not want to just throw them to the side since I do think they are the real deal... Please help experts!
o.s.Luma
Starting the thread, I'm no expert either, but those welds look good to me. Guessing I say they are REDLINE. Do these bars have any stampings?
tinman41
i got my first pair in 78 and they were 24 with a 6.5 rise and were nickle plated.......i have no scanner but im looking at a photo of my bike. hope i have helped
TeamRob
No Stampings unless they could be under the grips? I bought a 79 Proline a few weeks ago and these were on it - but I opted not for the traditional Red componets - so I switched everything over to Blue. I would swear these are Nickel bars. I will get out the tape measure and see. I thought they had to have knurlings?
mayhem40
I remember the V-bars I put on my DG in 1979 were 26" wide and were fairly tall. Also weren't they knurled in two places for double clamp stem?
