It seems that there are now reissue or repro tires such as the Chen Shing and Carlisle type. I would like to replace the fake Comp III look alikes with a more appropriate tire on my old Mongoose.
Where is the best (cheapest) place to get these?
Thanks,
JPK

The Cheng Shin C-183 knobby, spec on Mongoose Motomag bikes, is still made today exactly as it was in the 1970s. Your local bike shop can order them from Seattle Bike Supply, and they are usually less than $10 retail.

There are so many "comp III" looking tires that I have seen, Can anyone detail which are which? For example, I have purchased a few sets of the new Cheng Shin Comp III's and yes they look and feel just like the originals, but I have a black Kenda Comp III looking tire that looks just like the Cheng shin? Isit new or old? Then I also have a set of Pink Comp III look alikes on one of my daughters bikes, that have no brand name at all, and the quality is definitely lower? I know there are others too. Was there ever a knock off snake belly? I have a set on a rider, that have me paranoid everytime my daughter rolls out of the garage on them? Most of the riders just have those Cheng Shins on them, as they are available.

Cheng Shins are THE way to go for Comp III copies.
Skinwalls (not gum walls), look right (bar a acouple of minor points) and ride well.
oh - and CHEAP!!

Does Cheng still make tan skin walls?

I have Kenda comp 3's. They look really good and I refuse to pay $200US for the right pair of tires as much as I would like to.
I have mistuboshi comp 3's and panaracers on my builds. I also have some "Vee rubber" Snakebellies which look cool also.

if the bike is going to be a rider, why not just buy some new tioga comp III's? although they're all black and have "tioga" printed in white on the side, they appear to be from the same mold as the old mitsuboshi tires (down to the fact that they SAY mitsuboshi competition III on the sidewall). think of it this way: the tire is a modern look, but it is the real deal with regard to what we rode in the early 80's

I see these old kenda 1970's style tires around, usually on a lawn cart. still available, though.
