Muxster shot a pictoral of Johnny Severin doing a one handed wheelie on one of these in his "Bicycle Motocross Collector" Magazines, but when he left the scene, his links died and unless someone saved them, they are gone.

FWIW, there is a pic of a complete CBR Monoshock in the new Decline magazine, and a copy of the "Bicycle Motocross Collector" with it as well.

Cheers,
Brian

Code Blue (Johnny) owns Severins now. I'm the one selling the above CBR. Like I said in the add I have 2. Code Blue has 1 and the other is owned by Jesse V I believe, that's all the known ones.

The one in Decline magazine is Code Blues, I think when it was still owned by Severin.

Where do you put the seat?

Wow, that is amazing ! I wasn't old enough to ride bikes back then, but what a cool design. Hard to believe its from 1973. Cooks are awesome !

WOW! Super cool!! Can you imagine how fun that would be to ride around town on? I own a Yamaha Moto-bike, but I'm too big to even ride it. That thing looks ridable. Pure 70s moto.

Ahhh, so THAT's where the seat goes.

Oh yeah, that is surely moto if I ever saw moto!

Thanks Eric. The one pictured is a Cook Factory Racer....original paint & stickys (less the '1973' stickers) and still rides great and gets plenty of cross-eyed stares!

In doing some research I've found a pic of a bike owned and designed by a Bill McIntyre which I believe is the prototype for the above frame in the May 1977 BMX News (I removed that '73' sticker in the process based on the following circumstantial 'evidence').

Bill McIntyre is the one and the same F.W. McIntyre (guess what F.W. stands for .....). He was pictured in the CBR 26" Cruiser Test in BMXA and was also a Longtime CBR Factory Rider and Employee who apparently helped with the designing of some CBR parts including his namesake F.W. McIntyre bars.

The Mono shock shown designed by him had a different design on the rear swingarm and if you can note it looks like he added a tensioner to prevent slack in the chain during rad riding conditions.

If you look to the design that both Eric and I have you may be able to note that the pivot point is at the bottom bracket not behind the b.b., thus eliminating the need for a chain tensioner altogether as chain length remains constant. I presumed that our design is a later design.

Eric's is aluminum which makes his very unique amongst the CBR Monoshock's.

Bill's frameset also has a similar design with the straight upper bar, rear dropouts and triangle design similarities as you can see...... If I remember correctly the 'Laguna' monoshocks which bore striking similarities (less the rear pivot) were also produced by CBR and stickered as Laguna's, much like they also mfgr'd Jammin Jimmy Weinart framesets amongst others.

So perhaps we can attribute the inspiration of the CBR Monoshock design to Bill McIntyre. Coincidental information...maybe, maybe not, perhaps it's a design he preferred...... we'll probably never know for a certainty.

Luckily both Johnny & I had a chance to talk with Craig Cook in person about the Monoshock 2 or 3 years ago. As soon as I get the chance I'll transcript the interview.

Cool design , the original one looks like you could use it for ram raiding shops & warehouses

So what model YZ80 do you have to find in order to fabricate some forks for this rarity or is there something off the shelf forks still available somewhere ????
