Guido from Germany has one of those too. Jim told us that he could not remember having made those!
There was a threat many month ago.

Funny... noone seems to be worried about the style of the lettering, though hope it is someone who can explain it, perhaps me? Look at the J, that is just a 1 line, like all other letters. The original JMC logo/stamp is not like this. The J is open (2 lines) in a regular official JMC logo. I think this one is not made for the US market as it could be(!) a Hutch design for the seatpostclamp... Well my try here. Add where you can with some usefull info!
JJR, is this one for sale??? I hope...

Definitely a stamp. You can tell the metal has been displaced, rather than removed

A stamp alright. So, must've been for some JMCs that didn't have a built-in one?
BMXJIM, we need ya!

Sander - consider the limitations of the size of that stamping. You are correct - the lettering is different than what you have seen on the top of a seatpost or at the back of the top tube...but those areas are much larger. This stamping is tiny - therefore making impossible for the detail you're used to seeing. If this were a more contemporary piece, it could be laser engraved...but they simply didn't have that technology back then.
Although I've never seen one, I'd say legit or product of a machine shop employee with WAY too much time on their hands. I'd still like to see a reply from Papa Melton.

This is the 2nd clamp I have seen like this. The other one popped up in Germany a couple years ago. It is not one of our products. I don't know who made it. Who ever made it did a nice job.
