I got home last night after a 12-13 hour shift feeling a bit down because of all things, a bike problem.
I got the mail, and immediatly opened a letter from the OM. As you all know by now, Scot is facing some heavy grief in his life right now.
Reading the letter, I could not help but have a tear in my eye as the OM outlined his plans for his future (whichever way it might go)
In the middle of the letter, Scot voiced his concern for me. He was aware of the incident we had on the border last Thursday and told me to be careful.
This, ladies and gentlemen, is the Scot a lot of us know and love. Even as he faces an uncertain future, his concern for my safety was touching.
Now, i don't know the OM like PK and JU and others know him. I didn't ride the SE bus on the terrible tour . I didn't share the same uniform like they did, but I did get the honor to compete against him and have know him for many many years and I am aware of the bad stories but also the good ones. It's the good ones I remember vividly and the ones that are worth repeating
The OM has always been something of an icon. he was a hero to some of you. he was someone I looked up to, and now he is a friend in need
I'm well aware of some of his dealings, so please save any of that to private e-mail if you must voice them.
Very often people that we admire do not know that they are. Oz would be a good example, until his return last year, he was not aware of the impact he had on all of us kids. Same goes for Rick Twomey. Hundreds of kids wanted to be part of his infamous team. They both are aware of that thanks to this and the OS site.
Scot is also one of those who did not know what they meant to all of us. Although in different circumstances than Oz and Twomey, he has become aware of that. The letters you guys have written him (and for him) have touched him and he has asked to relay this message:
quote:
Please post to all: I love you, I appreciate everything...for opening my eyes to the reality that I AM OK, I don't have to "Do Do Do" Just to be likes or accepted. With my upbringing, I NEVER was satisfied I was "Good enough"...Today your love has wiped out my denial.
I'd GREATLY appreciate letter from you all. It's pretty depressing in here..
God Bless, Love you all! OM Scott
PS Thanks all for contributing to my "Defense Fund
I understand some of you might be a bit skeptical and it's understandable, but for now--just as much as we appreciate a "survivor" bike--let's see if we can help out the OM be a "Survivor" hero and friend.

Scot is a good egg with a bad problem. He's not a bad person. There's a big difference. Every time he calls he asks to speak to my 6 yr old son. Jack's face lights up when he hears "OM"'s voice. The last time Scot was at my house he spent more time playing with Jack than anything else.
Scot's got a good heart. I count him as my friend for that reason.

I'm gonna send him a letter (even though he doesn't even know me), just to try and lift his spirits...
Can someone post his address where he will get mail at?
Thanks, Bob
I saw this address included in an auction to raise money on Scot's behalf:

I arrived home this eve and was pleasantly suprised to see the Ole Man had dropped me a kite as well.
He wanted to let everyone know that had written or sent pics that he was incredibly appreciative. He wanted to solo out Gary H, Ben Joy, Byron, Rielly, and Mike W, please send a note or letter next time. The pics are great but he'd love to read what you have to say. Once he gets envelopes and stamps, he'll write back to everyone.
And if any of you are wondering that Scot's friends are guys that have sort of tie or bond(racing, etc), think again. I had only met Scot once and participated in these forums with him. There was one small encounter BITD on the track but I was a nobody back then and left after the moto(ie. I was a pu$$y).
After Jamie's thread about his situation, I sent her an email voicing my support and offering whatever help I could from 3000 miles away. Since then I have recieved two calls and now a letter from Scot. The Scot I am getting to know shares his feelings and emotions - not BMX glory day stories. I feel honored that ANYONE would be as open as that with me. I wish all my friends were as open as this. Scot is one of those people that wants to be your friend because he likes people. I believe him to be honest about himself and true to himself despite his present "problem." I wish I had known that when I was a kid...
I urge anyone that would like to make a friend with a great guy to drop Scot a note, say "Hi" and wish him well.
Oh yeah, when you mail him, send a return envelope and a money order for a buck or two so he can mail you back and get stamps. Do not send stamps or cash(duh). Postal money orders are prefered and accepted at the gray bar motel. Stamps from anywhere beside "county" are considered contraband if some of you are wondering.

If someone talks to Scot please tell him my cell phone provider doesn't allow me to accept collect calls. I emailed Jamie and gave her my office number but Scot calls me daily on the cell and I can't even accept the charges. I think he has my numbers confused as the last four numbers of my cell and office are the same. I would love to talk to him.

I heard there may be a chance for him to get bail sometime soon and that the original amount had been reduced. Don't take that as fact as I read it in an email, but that is what I heard last week. Byron, if you talk to him first, tell him to call my office.

I'm having the same problems with Scot calling my cell phone. I want to talk to him too, but I'm on the train most of the time so my cell phone is the only way to reach me. I wish there was a number we could call, like a public phone at the facility. I've tried to call the number he is calling from with no luck at all.

My apologies on the lack of updates. Lat time I talked to Scot he was trying to get bail. He appeared to be in good spirits and again sent his love to the community.
He's called a few times recently but I haven't been able to make the connection for whatever reason.
I do believe that the address is still current but I'll try to get an update if neccesary. Please please send Scot words of encouragement if you can't help money wise.

We received a letter from Scot and I just mailed him a note to the same address above as on his letter. I enclosed this thread and another and a photo from Gonzo's show of Lionel's SE bike. He's trying like heck to make bail or get a bond from a bail bondsmen. Hope he succeeds. I also hope I put enough postage on the letter.

Hey Everyone, here's an update for you! I just talked to the OM today, he has the bail money, but needs a signer for the bond! I would have done it myself, but I have no credit which is worse than bad credit, and I can't do it!! We all know Scot is in a place he doesn't belong, so PLEASE someone help the OM out!!!!! HE DOES NOT NEED MONEY, He only needs the signature of someone with decent credit! Who would have figured the OM would need someone's "autograph"!!!! Scot did a lot things for and gave a lot of things to a lot of people, when we were all kids and now it's our turn to give back! Thanks to everybody's generosity in earning the bail money, but someone, PLEASE sign the bail bonds paper!!! Here is the info you need to help out: Alladin Bail Bonds 909-944-4855, you will need his number when you call, it is 0604342280. He is in W.V.D.C. in Rancho Cucamonga, Ca. Please let everyone know about this and someone PLEASE help the OM out!!!!!! He needs our help, not jail!!! Please post here if you can help, so I can let him know! Thanx, Rick

Ok, I understand. My apologies. I also noticed he is from Springfield, which isn't too far from me. Too bad he was run off so quickly.
What was the deal with the other thread? I only saw it when it was first posted, I guess I missed the drama that went with it.

i can tell you i totally understand what the om is going thru.when i was thirteen i started using drugs casually.thru the years it intensified into a strong habit.i found myself doing things that i would not normally do.in the fall of 2001 my habit got so bad that i didnt want to do anything but use.i stopped working and then turned to stealing to support my habit.in 2002 i was finally caught and and went in front of the judge and was sentenced to two years in prison and two years in a long term drug facility called the phoenix house.when i got out i had a whole new out look on life.the events that took place during those years happened for a reason.my life would still be in a downward spiral if not for the love a GOD that knew i deserved another chance at life.i have been total clean for going on five years now and enjoy life to the fullest.im doing things now that i would have never dreamed about doing in the past.this fall i will be going back to school to get my associates degree in c.e.e.t (computer electronics engineering technology). i say all that to say this .when you think that life has dealt you a bad hand and there is no hope trade your hand in for a new one.life is what you make of it and the sooner you understand that there are people out there that love you then you know that your not just hurting yourself ,but those that care about you also.the last thing i would like to stress to the om is that there is alot of people that will try to bring you down on your way to a better life, but you need to use the tools that you have learned along the way to fix the problem at hand and keep on track to a better life.i wish the om all the best wishes and pray for him to have the strength to do what he needs to do.

No. Willinois over at OS yesterday at 10am had this post on unfinished business which I don't know how to copy and paste so I'll type it verbatim. He stated, "Jamie emailed me. Good news, Scot is out on bail! Way to go OM!"
