I put this together today for Rick Twomey.
Eric Richter's "Rick's Bike Shop" special

Check it out at the Elysian gathering.

You guys probably saw it in "Joe Kid"
It is one of the original diamond shaped frame as modified by Rick Twomey

Originally built for and raced by Eric "Rocketman" Richter

Hand painted graphics:

Ashtabula non-stamped reinforced fork
Motomags I s
Carlisle Tire front/Unknown rear
Schwinn BB, Diamond Cranks, Sprocket, Headset and seatclamp.
Union Pedals

Box Bars
Schwinn 1966 AS stem
Waffle Grips
Royce Union Stamped Kashima saddle

As you can tell, the back end was pff a Scwinn Stingray, front end was modified to handle longer cranks

History for sure. Rick Twomey will follow up with details

Other grails await at the Park..

Now That should #1 on the all time HEAVY METAL list! The 70's steel bikes rule the pedalcross! WOW a custom by the "Infamous" himself! Well worth the wait for reilley1 to fix that dag-gum scanner!

TEAMRICK aka RICK TWOMEY
this is just one of the items i will be bringing to the GONZO B.B.Q. on june 3rd. going to surprise you all with more bmx history. things that not even i have seen in almost 30 years.
for me at least i thing is the holy gail for what it is. i put together a story of the find but will wait till after the bbq to post it. i don't want to spoil the surprise.

a little more history on the bike in this thread. the bike was not only ridden by eric richter but other bmx legends as well. the likes of john "jp" palfreyman jr. and thom lund then there was doug takahashi and david clinton and bobby encinas and marvin church and more. all the bikes were used by the different riders depending on if we were testing or the track itself. you must remember this bike i built bitd when old skool was really old skool. there were NO production frames made by any company back then. we invented and designed as we went along.

QUESTIONS ? ask away.

Wow Rick - that is one great piece of history! Wish I could make it Elysian to see the rest of your suprises!
seda
That's so old school I'm crying with my face in my hands. A meaner bike will never be built.

Anyone that's heading to elysian needs to bring a carpet and appreciate to the East. That's religion sitting on the grass right there.

I'm gonna go steal some candy and a bmx action from the 7 Eleven..

I will one day make the journey to Cal state and only then will my life be complete!
Curt
Rick,

I was aware that you were involved at start but that hybrid stingray is awesome.

On another note, I could not make the Jonh Beaver service. I hope it went as well as possible. Godspeed John Beaver.

I would love to go to the BBQ as it is fairly local for me however I will be on the road to MT with my family. I have a thing or two that might stir some interest. But.....

Curt
rsrichie
That is priceless and should be stored in a museum
Sidehack Guy
It is - The Reilley1 Museum of Fine Bicycle Art
Race Inc dude
Rick, it's unreal what you were thinking bitd. Probably didnt seem big than but it makes history in a big way. Lenny
Mike Corvin
Wow. Rick, that thing is sick. That is bike is rich with the stink of history. The evolution of what we know as a "race bike"
At first glance you see a hacked Stingray type bike.
But, if you take a second to really look it becomes apparent that this bike has been well thought out and skillfully modified. It's light-years ahead of it's time.
Longer front end, longer cranks, head tube gusset, steeper head angle for quicker steering, you were really thinking about how to go faster and not break frames.
Bikes like this one totally dictated what we spent our money on in later years.
Bravo, Rick! That is a rare talent, to ride a bike for a specific purpose and start thinking "Hmmm, if I change this and that..." then having the knowledge and resources to actually implement your theories. Cool stuff, man...
agentheinz
If that bike were a car, it would be a Model A pickup with shortened bed sitting on Deuce rails with a blown Flathead breathing thru open headers. A true Hot Rod, the roots of all to come!

Amazing piece of history. Cool to see the first steps of BMX frame evolution so well preserved.
motomags
70's Old school at it's finest. Nice job Rick!
Ricks Bike Shop
Rick thanks for bringing back so many good memories for Rick and I. Now I want more bikes, yes I have caught the collectors sickness, Rick is in trouble now. The last time I caught the bug, we had our 55' Nomad, 57' Chevy, my 55' Chevy Truck and my 62' Impala. I just can't say no very often. I guess bikes can be just as expensive, but they are easier to store.
Ted Carl
Awesome! To both Ricks!.....
Joe
jeeeeeze - sand blast that thing already and get a fresh powder coat on it..................JUST JOKING!!!!
TEAMRICK aka RICK TWOMEY
hey that model a pick up with the blown flathead ? RIGHT ON MAN
thats my kind of hot rod. i still have the 55 chevy nomad and i have a 50 ford woody as well. i just like the old stuff.
scottTowne

That's really cool. I just got my Joe Kid dvd today and saw it there. Sadly dvd was squirrelled in middle, so returning for functioning copy. Then I can see the SE stuff, which is what I really wanted. OM was razor sharp @ 13. What a legend.
johnnieboy
Rick, you guys were seriously badazz too. That movie is killer history. All the childhood icons in there. Genius idea.
Reilley1

Walter Holda
I just tried to call the number in the ad to order a few sets of Motomags!
TEAMRICK aka RICK TWOMEY
i just got a e-mail the other day which was just to cool.

it was from a guy named ron king, and he wrote " i'm sure you don't remember me but i bought my first set of motomags from you (rick's bike shop) about 30 years ago. i came to your house and you sold them to me right out of the back of your van."

after all these years its really neat to get letters like this.

oh yea i wrote him back saying
" by the way the motomags are still covered under my complete satifaction policy, so if you want to return them i will be glad to refund the money you paid for them." ha ha ha

see my shop was real, it just had
4 wheels under it.

the good old days of bmx
TEAMRICK aka RICK TWOMEY
