When were A'me Tri's introduced into the market? I'm thinking of using an old logo set on a build I've got going but don't know if they are era correct.

brian, I actually have the same questuion. I am building a mxll 1983. I am looking for some oeriod grips. I wanted to do the red and white oakleys, but. I got out bid. The only thing I can find is the tri-grips. So, What is the time-line of the ame?
Ken Pliska
The original A'me grips were given to us (as new product freebies) on the 1980 Redline Summer Tour, so they were brand new in June/July of 1980. If I remember correctly, they came in Round, Cam and Tri on that initial release.

The original font logo was all lower case letters if memory serves. The next logo was all caps in the old font and the last (and current) was the squared off font. There may have been one more logo in there that I am forgetting.

Cams came out before 80. They were the older brother of Oakley I's. A'ME made all the grips for Oakley, that's why they were always so similar. Jim Jannard(Oakley) and Jim Pachyn(A'ME) were friends. I went to school with kids from both families and knew both Jims(still talk to Jim P. from time to time).

I'd venture a guess that cams came out, at the latest, in 78 - maybe earlier. I ran cams on all my cruisers. I stopped racing in '80.

Thanks Guys. I now know not to put the baby blue Tri's on my JU6. I'm gonna get some Oakley 2's from BBohlmann.
retrodave
sweet, thanks for the info. I guess its back to evil-bay to look for the oakleys. Anybody got a pair of red and whites they can part with?
AndyDiamond
Retrodave - I'd go with the Oakleys on the Redline.

Check for F1s for that 83 or B1-Bs - Chris Baron just sold a set for a decent price - I guess you missed that one...

Yeah - lower case font for the first A'MEs, caps 'bubble font' for the next and then the squared off versions currently.

I won't run the new font Tris on any serious era-correct build and it seems others wont either - just saw a pair of regular A'ME Tris in black with the bubble fonrt logo hit $50 on ebay...

PS: - what the hell did 'A'me' mean anyway?
lol

I really liked A'me grips bitd. I ran Tris on both bikes for a while. Grab On MX3's were ok, although the end caps never stayed tight and the foam sleeves lasted about 10 minutes

I read somewhere a while ago what A'me meant, but I plain cant remember... :/

I always liked the way the MX3's felt, but they were a little on the short side. And the covers lasted about the same amount of time for me, too, so I stuck with .5's or Tri's.

A vintage brother hooked me up with the red and white oaks I needed. Man I have spent mad cash on this build. And I am not done yet. I'll post in the wanted what I need.
