i think he's talking about the mid school or late 80's jags from like 1986 or 87 or so, looked like a cycle craft or something with the dropouts under the chain stays

Scotty,
Chris told me you had a Jag. Where did you get the decals from? Have a Team Jag myself.

rebel had a frame like that too

May 16 2006, 09:12 PM
weren't some of the jag and rebel frames built by vector/cyclecraft? they all used the same dropout and/or brake bridge at one time or another.

Sorry guys, the frame isn't a Jag. I rode for Jag BITD (80's)... Still have the 11th Jag cruiser ever produced here at the house along with some decals, gators, jerseys, etc.. All of the Jags had a straight cut on the diagonal down front of the drop out, not arched. Brake bridges were tubular, not plate.
I think you are in fact looking at a Zeronine. They were only available in white or chrome. We had both Zeronine and Jag come through my family's shop - The dropout looks like Zeronine to me.

May 16 2006, 10:26 PM
i think zeronine and rebel made by vdc or cycle craft or somebody? I dunno, they all made stuff for each other.
sparky
May 16 2006, 10:38 PM
True pquinn. It seems everybody made somebody else's stuff back then. I'll post a picture of the cruiser shortly.
The serial number code appears to be Zeronine as well. Anyone with a Zero out there that could confirm this?

Jag cruiser #11. I was 11 years old when this frame arrived at our house. Serial number Jag 11. For obvious sentimental reasons, this one has never left the stables. Note the straight cut on the front of the drop out. I had a "midi" - a frame that was between a mini and a standard (pre-"junior" name) that looked identical only smaller.

My vote would be Rebel becasue the zeronines that I remember did not have that brake bridge.
September of 84 I did not think zeronine was out yet and I do not see the headset gussett that the zeronines had. Also no bracing on the chain stays.
From the drop outs alone I would lead toward a Rebel.

Zeronione was obviously made by VDC. There are the Bottema Forks mentioned earlier this Spring. VDC supposedly sold Bottema forks off as other brands.

May 17 2006, 06:14 PM
Hey guys, the blue and white bikes are mine, infact they are the same bike. I just got if finished. It is now blue. Those are bottema forks, but they didn't come with the frame. They were put on a few years ago. The red bike is NCBMXPRO's, and it has the original forks on it. The dropouts are similar to bottemas, but the legs aren't as long. I bought the chrome jag/rebel, whatever, frame on ebay as a zeronine. It had zeronine decal all over it, but there were some in the wrong place, so that got me wandering about it being a zeronine. Then zer9pro24 told me it looked like a jag frame. It's getting new zeronine decals, so whatever it is, it's gonna be wearing zeronine clothes. Or if anybody has a zeronine cruiser to trade, that would be great.

Randy, I don't know enough about Jags to be president of their fan club or anythihg but that Team Jag is probably one of my top 3 favorite builds ever! I love the XR-75 brake lever boot. I used to use them BITD on all my bikes.
Keep 'em coming guys!

Wow, thanks Scott, it's in my top three too. Remarkable as it seems, that nickel plating was done in 2000, photo taken in 2004, and it still shines as you see it, never been polished, just wiped down occasionally.
btw, your Sting in in my top three.

Randy, That's why I love nickel so much. If well taken care of it just develops that cool "patina" the longer you have it. I just love the attention to detail you put into that bike, it must have taken you forever to finish it. You don't see many guys sticking with it that long anymore. Much respect
Thanks for the props on my Sting. I now have a beat Comp II on the rear and a nice Comp II on the front so I'm geting closer at least! Please TIM let me win/have just one pair of Comp II's!!! LOL
Anyway Randy, for sure one of my all time favs! Can't wait to see your "Secret Project"

Well, as far as the older ones looking like Mongeese, they are Mongeese...with a looptail and a differnt gusset. Another in the BMX Products line.
And as far as Mr. Clean's frame...I don't know how to break it to you, but there's no way that frame has never had a headset or bb in it. Look at the washer marks...the wheel has been in more than one place. That frame has been ridden for sure. (Why would you tighten a wheel into a frame with no headset or bb anyway? I mean, maybe with no bb if you were just mocking it up, but no headset? And tight enough to make various sets of washer marks?)

I got off the phone with 70's Jag factory team racer Phil Maxwell.
He's got two original Jags he's gonna completely restore.
If you're at Lake Perris for the big ABA National
this weekend, go to the SE tent and say hi.
Phil Maxwell is a very cool individual.

Late to the game, I have to concurr with the rest, Mr.Cleans frame is not a Jag and the brake bridge is a give away, not a Zeronine because of the head tube. I am gonna say Cyclecraft. I thought the post BMX Products Jags were all built by Cyclecraft. Phillip Maxwell and Randy are both class acts. I have used them numerous times as reference for the BMX Products Jag I am building now. Oh and here is a pic of my Jag for reference.

Could that frame, Mr. Clean's, be an MCS ? Didn't they make a similar frame as well ?
Btw, great loking bikes!

Thanks Rick. The drop outs were the same or similar to MCS but differ where the seat and chain stays meet, I forget about the brakebridge on those. On a Jag and Zeronine, the chain stay is longer than the seat stay (looks like tail pipes). MCS they meet together, like Vectors do.
