Gday all.
I found this bike on a tip a couple of years ago and have recently started to fix it up, trouble is i have no idea what it is. it had no stickers or badges when i found it, only markings i can find on it are serial #MI031875 and the letters W.T.B under where cranks go. I've looked on a heap of sites and can't even find a bike that looks similar. hoping someone here can help
here are some pics.
the seat and centre shock aren't original but the rest is, including colour scheme. i have the cranks and chain but the wheels were missing
any help much appreciated. Thanx

i had shivers running down my spine as soon as i saw these pics
when i was about 13 or 14 i had one of these
i can't remember what make it was though
but i can vividly remember my last crash on it!!!
one wheel nut and the opposite shock retainer circlip both somehow came loose! as i lifted the front wheel to go up a gutter it all came apart and i "BIT THE DUST!" face plant style! and after two root canals and 15 years i can't forget that frame and those cursed forks!
the other thing was it was bloody heavy and i never had tuffs
the steel rims probably added to the weight, if the old x-motorbike mono shock wasn't heavy enough!!

OUCH!!! that gotta hurt. Don't reckon i'll be riding it, just thort it was interesting and worth fixing. I know what you mean about the weight, reckon it weighs as much my dirt bike. Kids that rode these things must of had huge legs.

Cool, You've got more bits than me. That complete bike belongs to Pete Porker. He also sent me mine. I believe he has a few of them. Most collectors here in Aust have one. They weigh a ton. 2 bad points about them. They have a euro BB and they are prone to cracking under the gusset on the downtube. Mine doesn't have the shocks, just imitation springs I think the shocks are the best part of the whole bike! Yours seems to have an aftermarket shock in the frame too.

They came in a yellow black colour combo as well , they never had mag wheels on them , only the heavy guage spoked wheels , if you had one of these new in 1974 or so in Oz you were king of the kiddies in your neighbourhood.
The rubber pedals & cotter pins on the cranks were sacrificial or the only things that would break , the rest of the bike was near indestructable.
CoastVL's repco is obviusly a faster bike than the yellow models as its a red one
You could probably still use this bike as ram raiding vehicle , it will easily get inbetween those posts they put in to stop cars & smash thru roller doors , laminated glass & besa brick walls with ease <heh> tho it would be difficult riding away with all your ill gotten booty on the undamaged bike......

This may be a stupid question, but i noticed in the pic of the complete bike that it has the chain guard on the sprocket, is this correct.
mine has a bracket on the frame that appears to be for a chain gaurd, and my chain sprocket has no provision for a guard. coastvl's project bike looks to have the same bracket also.

The chain gaurd is a plastic "sprocket" that bolts to the chainwheel. Have a look at a new Huffy MTB or something similar. They use the same thing still today. Maybe the frame mounted gaurd is an older style?
Reece do it mate! I'm gonna cruise the rear tire of this baby on the beachfront and thrash the hell out of it. They are so cheap to build it's not funny. Mines cost me under $100.

Oh and I'm desperately looking for a handlebar clamp for the forks. I don't really want to use the mint gold stem I have for it if I don't have too.

i must remind all of you to check the fork retaining circlips
after 15 years 1 of my rootcanaled teeth has finaly broke in half
just a note
did anyone know circlips have a right a wrong way to install
these things are pressed out of a sheet
leaving a round edge on one side and a square edge on the other
make sure the square edge is against the pressure side of the groove
if you put the round edge under pressure it may slip out (especialy if the groove is undersized)
other than that
i wish you all the best of luck riding these infernal contraptions

I got one of these for christmas in 1979 and my forks [I tried to cheat the filter] themselves too.Got the bike from Clarence St Cyclery in Sydney and when we rang them they said" leave the bike around the side of your house and we'll pick it up", don't remember how long it was gone for but one day I got home from school and my monster was back. You could always win a distance-jumping competition on one of those pigs, so much momentum. I've still got the scars aswell. My folks bought it because they were tight-asses.

doubleseven my ankle hurts when i think about those days
I also remember wining distance comps BITD
we always had heaps of judges (the ones who couldn't jump or their mums said NO, and 1 repco that we all wanted to ride to win
I think the bigger the n@ts you had the faster you would go and just hang on. the jump was measured by the number of old tyres we found in the bush you could clear.
I got to get one now
And Coastal i think i have the correct stem for you
i'll find a photo and post up soon
