I have always been a big fan of the mid 1970s BMX bikes. They are extremely simple to dream up and build. I had an extra hour last night so I built this up. I plan to locate some matching nail polish to touch up some of the serious scratches (battle scars) in the finish, but as an early painted (not anodized) FMF survivor, I'll never strip it down to repaint.
Randy
lovin' every minute of it!
Reilley1
I didn't see that. I didn't see that!!

Absolutely beautiful and simple
BRIAN HAYS
That absolutely ROCKS Ken!!! This whole 70's thing was a touch before my time but I'm really diggin it more and more. I have one of these frame and forks and I think you have just inspired me.
Code Blue
Ughhh! Someone slipped that same 70's mickey into my drink and I haven't been the same since....eyes dialating, mouth is dry, breathing has shallowed and quickened, heart racing.....

Just too nice Ken!
RAMO
Coincidentally I came across an old box of decals in my garage today, do you need an FMF head tube sticker for that?
Ken Pliska
RAMO,

I would love a headtube sticker for it. Let me know what you want for it and I'll send you a payment ASAP.

YES! Most excellent in it's simplicity - and definately a throw back for me!! Get those stickers on it ...

(Oh, I just noticed the Oury grips too - perfect!)

That's a beauty Ken. Nice job. I wouldn't toch it up at all or put decals on it IMHO. It's cool to imagine all the famous people that frame/rider has battled with to get those scars.
TIM
leave the nail polish in the wife's vanity, ken! looks wicked just as it sits.
TEAMRICK aka RICK TWOMEY
ken.......STOP !.....slowly back away from the bike......good, now put down
that fingernail paint.....good......
now very slowly move over to the tool box....easy.....easy......good.......
now with just your hand..a..a..a..a.
just one hand...now slowly reach in the tool box and pick up a hammer.....
yes the big one will be fine......
now walk over to the work bench.....
good....now stop....see the bottle of fingernail paint...good....now.....take the hammer and with both hands hit the bottle of paint as hard as you can.........good....very good.
ken what were you thinking? you'v got
a 70's survivor. the scratchs are
battle scars. scars to be worn proudly.
please don't cover up history. leave
everything alone. cean it, polish it
even sleep with it, but don't deface it.
please let me know what you deside and
most important lets see a picture of you
or your children riding it and enjoying it.

thank you for listening rick twomey

P.S. not only chick's dig scars.....
but guys do to.

i second tims comment, but would put a nos h/t decal on it if it is available, that is so sweet. i bought a mint survivor scrambler 36/36 in cardinal red, which was nearly built/added on identically, with a blue pat pend tuf neck, blue race inc bars, and a "adjustable" spider and chainwheel in blue. original owner, mint paint and decals, i had to put her back to original, and use the other parts, but it looked darn near identical to that fmf !

Very cool survivor. I'm with Tim and TEAMRICK - leave the nailpolish out of it - the bike is really better looking with the scratches. Besides, don't you watch Antiques Roadshow? Eveyerone knows that you don't sand and refinish fine antique furniture - true afficianados want the scrapes and scratches left in tact!

Really a very cool bike.
Ken Pliska
Okay, nail polish is now out of the question. I almost always agree with TIM and how could I possibly go against Twomey? This bike will stay the way it is.

Only thing I may change up is the forks.

I have a set of nickel TX-500s that would look good with those nickel bars.

RAMO is kicking me the decal (Thanks again, Brian) in the mail, so the headtube will look complete.
Thumperpilot
Whatever you do, DO NOT remove the ABA sticker!
byron
SWEET!!!!
Astrodamus
That is UNREAL!!

I love 70's BMX!
jpbmxfool
yo.........hella rad!!!!
TEAMRICK aka RICK TWOMEY
thumper...maybe ken should cover the aba sticker with a rick's bike shop sticker ? lol
lownslow
Ken- You have PM.
meatpie
Love it! Never seen 1 over here in OZ..sigh
Yasser
Wow looks like its been preserved in time. Stupendous survivor Mr Pliska.
Jeff V
Nice bike. Can someone shed some light on a painted FMF? I always thought the AL frames were either ano or polished only.
Curt
An extra hour for assembly? I suppose the Suzuki and the Webco took half hour each, LOL.

I purchased a Cycle Pro Spoiler in 78 in an attempt to get an FMF which were not sold anymore at that time. I was constantly told by track locals (Valley Teen Center SFV) that my Cycle Pro WAS NOT an FMF.

And now this, will the torment ever end???

Serious note: Mighty fine work, and yes I still have the Cycle Pro with battle scars, stickers, etc. I suppose it too is some type of survivor.

I agree with others, leave FMF as is, I dig that!!!!
BenOr
Funny thing about this FMF is it's powder coated not anodized. It certianly is an FMF (gusset hole, no brake bridge, pointy drop outs), but it's not anodized. Yet another bastian oddity...

#1023 oddity to be exact

In addition to a DG, now I want an FMF...sigh
