Hi Everyone,
I am Scot's girlfriend Jamie. Scot ask me to go on line and ask for help from his friends. As most of you are aware Scot struggles with drug addition. Last Monday Scot was arrested and is facing a long sentence. He has court on Monday and would like to know if any of you would be willing to type a letter to the District Att pleading for a long term re-hab instead of jail. You can email your letters directly to me at janthony0@charter.net and I will print them and take them to court. Thank you
Kerry

Why any person addicted to drugs goes to jail instead of a program is beyond me.

Glenn,
I know one thing in this life without family and your friends it's big very big world by yourself. I do know if you ever needed something..Scot would be there for you. I am trying to show the judge that he has support from his BMX family and to get him into a long term program. Remember where BMX started!
Thank you,
Jamie

<controversial post>Sometimes jail is good for brining a person closer to rock bottom.
don't want to be an enabler, but I hope he finds God and gets the help he needs.
</controversial post>
PS: If he was arrested and facing a long sentence, how can you expect people to write a letter of endorsement if we don't know what he was arrested for? Was it armed robbery? Attempted murder? or just shoplifting or something.. it might make a difference for some.
Here comes the beat down, I better scram..

from my own experiences with accquaintences, i know the evils that drugs can do. I also know how good of a person Scot is, regardless of his struggles with drugs...
I am a nobody in the BMX world, but I would be more than happy to help someone who indirectly, through the world of BMX, helped shape who i am today...
I will write one tonight...

If you knew Scot (OM) then you would know that he has been in Jail before.. for drugs!!! and ONLY drugs. Maybe you should read up on the jail systems and that it does not work! He needs Re-hab. If you would have read my opening letter you would have noticed I used the words of Drugs, Re-hab! Im not looking for his non supporting friends. If you dont want to write a letter then just pray for him. Thanks for your time. Jamie

I will pray for him too! If its drugs he is going to need allot of help. It is controversial since we have no idea what he did. I for one am a firm believer in if you did something illegal you need to do jail time. I am surprized that you are just now seeking help when you knew he's had a problem for sometime. Maybe now you both will finally deal with it and get through it. You have I'm sure everyone's support if Scott can't help himself how can we help him. It start with him. I met him at Rockford and he admitted he had a problem, so what happened since last year? I apologize for any hard feelings, I know you have a very long and hard road ahead. Good luck and God Bless...

Jamie - as someone who has struggled with and overcome addiction I can identify with Scot's problems and realise that a true change can only come from within - no amount of re-hab or jail time will fix the problem unless Scot truly wants to change and this change has to start with the removal of all temptations - Scot needs to completely divorce himself from his current lifestyle and cut himself off from any negative influences. Scot has all my support and I'll do whatever I can to help

Amen dugga. I am speaking from personal experience. Went from 333# to 244# on the meth diet. Lost 3 teeth since getting clean and now have a lot less hair in front from standing over cooking product.
I still partake in natural herbals, and do understand that it is illegal. I have been arrested for both afore mentioned substances and had to rock bottom to see what was wrong with what I was doing. @ the time I couldn't understan what the problem was. I was not hurtying anyone but myself and hell... who cared anyway? I was not married, still have no children but really regret the "non-naturals" I allowed to claim my life. My grandmother wrote me a 3 pager (on a legal pad!) explaining how much I had changed. That was it. I used a few more times and hurt so bad inside (not physically) I knew I was done.
Prayers are in order.
What you are asking for Jamie is not all this fella needs. Rehab is not an answer either. I used IN rehab! I had buddies that picked me up w/a gram waiting as a get out of rehab present.
God will do what he sees as best. Have faith Jamie. I hope that all goes well and God Bless ya both. It will all work out in the end if you stand behind this guy and know when to let go if needed. Good luck.

I just spoke to Scot on the phone and he appreciates all your love and support. Scot is depressed by his on going medical and financial problems and humbly admitts his relapse to you and his BMX family and friends. He wants help and is needing your support. By the letters to the judge it shows support from family, and friends that he is loved and needed. Believe me he is at the bottom! I want Scoty back and so does he!

Jaime, Maybe with the help of the site moderators we can do some type of petition list that can accompany the letter in hopes the judge shows some mercy and descretion before ordering him to a lengthy sentence! I feel bad about whats happened to him and would try to plea to our members to show some empathy to one of our homies and true legends and especially now that he needs the support.

wow , this is gonna cause some problems. what charges is he facing? how can he ask his pals for help now but would not then! I have a hard time with this, if it was anyone else people would throw him to the wolves. I think if you are going to ask people to help then you need to come clean with them. I mean was he dealing or just using? And yes it does matter, I for one am willing to let a coke or crack or meth dealer rot in prison as they have no value in a free society. I am just saying that you should let people know what they are getting into. I do wish the O.M. all the best in this. Here is my 2 cents worth - Scott is a great guy with a BIG heart. If it wern't for him, we wouldn't be on this site and some of us might not of turned out so good ourselves. I know that BMX & racing help keep my butt out of some major trouble.
My writeing skills suck and if someone here could draft up a letter and those of us that suport Scott can sign it petition style. Remember their is strength in numbers.

There is over ten thousnd members on this site. Cant the founding fathers start a petition. I will sign it with pride. Damn the nay sayers, we would'nt be on this site if it was'nt for the OM. Lets do what we can. Scot has to realize that he needs help. And I think its evident here. He is asking all the guys that spend alot of our money for HIS. REPEAT HIS stuff everyday for help. It's like the old saying. Can't see the forest for the trees. Well......... LETS (as a community cut the trees down, so scot can see the forest again). Without looking through a fence, if I might add.

I usually stay out of threads/ conversations of this nature. I, too, have had my losing battles with addiction.
In Scot's case, I will make an exception. Folks, Scot has a problem. Those of you that wish to split hairs over his moral consequences, really are being unfair to a guy that has just requested our help. He doesn't want your cash, he doesn't want you to visit him in county, he just requests that you write a quick or long(you be the judge) letter, that can be given to the court, explaining that it would be better to get him into rehab-where he might have a chance to recover, as opposed to rotting away for a good amount of time locked up, with no positive support.
I did not get to be one of Scot's friends back in the day. I never went around the country racing all the local hot shoes. I did, however, know that Scot and his merry band of delinquents did. I so wanted to be just like them. Everything I took from BMX as my own, was a direct result of Scot's labor/ efforts. Folks, he was definately one of the first two that invented our sport. He created the cruiser class. He showed BMX manufacturers that team sponsorship was lucritive. He pioneered our sport in so many ways.
What's the harm in a F'ing(yes, that "F" word) letter letting the court know that you suport him and would prefer him to have drug rehabilitation as opposed to unproductive lock up. I know I got a whole lot of inspiration from having mashed potato muscles and hitting the iron pile when all the gangsters were done - NOT!. Former jailbirds, did you feel spiritually inclined on mystery meat night? I certainly loved Gorilla nuts...
"Jail might be just what he needs." Get bent.
I've done time and the only thing I ever thought about when locked up was what I was going to do when I got out. Jail, is not an enriching experience.
Just write a dang letter, show some support and feel good that you might be helping someone that truly needs help. A letter will not tarnish all of your high moralistic ego's.

Jamie,
I would be honored to write a letter for Scott, he is truly one of my heroes, yes, he has faults, that has put him on government funded vacation, but he doesn't fake or hide them. The positive that he has done, and has continued to do with his support of the sport of BMX. I have been lucky to have never been addicted to drugs (I'm the weird guy who not only didn't do them back in the day, I still haven't tried them and don't plan on it) but I do have many friends (and family) who do/have, some even died from it. Does OM's attorney have any points that we should hit on? One more thing guys, make sure and sign your full name and include all your contact info. I'll try and talk to my attorney for ideas, but since I canceled going to the track this weekend, I know I won't be seeing him. My prayers and positive thoughts are with Scott!!

Scott is pretty much the "father of BMX", I think we all owe him alot. This is just sad, whatever I can do to help (a few $, a letter, petition) whatever, I will try and help.
I know that there are a few members here that are in the law enforcement community, and hopefully they can assist in some way "1 member in particular (not mentioning any names) had a working relationship w/ Scott BITD" maybe he will chime in...
I know 1st hand what drug addiction can do to you and the people that you care about, but theres nothing out there that cant be beat if you put your heart & soul into it. The drug laws in this country are completely screwed up, and 20 years in prison, or a few weeks in rehab, it really doesnt matter, because a junky will always be a junky until they decide that they dont wanna be a junky no more.
TO SCOTT: You have inspired all of us over the years as you have been a huge influence from the kid who just picked up Mongoose @ Walmart, and is now jumping dirt piles in Anywere USA, to the top BMX pros from the begining until today, if it werent for you, this sport would probably not even exist.
Inspire us again, and beat this addiction !!!!
Good luck & God bless,
Joe

Scot,
Since the day you and I first met, you've always had a kind word and encouragement. Whenever you called , the first thing you always asked was how my family was doing. That showed you have a strong heart and you always closed our conversations with God Bless. That demonstated your faith.
I know your demons need to be fought and I hope our thoughts and words will help you through this difficult period. Having Jamie come on here and post your story is opening a view of your life that many are not aware of. That takes courage to face the problems. I hope you find the help needed to get through this and I'll always be a friend to you.
You've made a positive impact in many many lives through your BMX endeavours and I hope with your good heart, courage, and faith, you'll get better and find peace.
I love you brother...

Scot has treated me like a little brother, even though it was only 4 years ago we 1st spoke. there have been many times i have wanted to sock him in the eye for his self-destructive behavior and the wreckage he has left behind for many good people to clean up. despite all that, my door has always been open to him, and my family has made him one of our own. in better times we have laughed about how bad he is at being an addict - he's always getting caught!
Scot has never truly understood how much so many people care for him. it should be plain to anybody reading JU's heartfelt comments, but there's a blind spot there with Scot.
my wife and i have both spoken to Jamie, and she truly cares for Scot. Jamie will have my family's support in any way we can give it.

How ironic this comes up - I just had dinner with Cash. We had this discussion and had no idea it was on the boards. If not tonight, it was to come soon.
I believe rehab would be better for Scot. But Scot, it's time for you to own it and clean it up. Enough. It is not anyones fault but yours my friend. We have been here to many times. The wreckage left behind is ugly and your 50 year old (+ or -) body is going to give up soon otherwise. I do not need a funeral this year.
I will pray for healing for my friend.

Those real close to Scot know his problems. We communicated recently and I know what he is going through. Although I will do whatever I can to help him, I can understand why JU, Ben (and others who won't say it so openly) feel the need do some soul searching first.
In the end, we will ALL help the OM in one way or another. Be it prayers, letters on his behalf, or by other means. I am sure the OM knows all of us in the community love him for what he did for the sport

Man I love the OM. His was the first clinic I took back at the Pontiac Silverdome. I went on to win that so he taught me well, he has always been a wealth of information, strength and support to me. It was great to reconnect back in Rockford. I still have the pic where he gave me a smooch (sorry Jamie).
I feel alot of what Jeff does at not such a deep level as Jeff and him go back so many years. My sister has spent years in and out of jail
(for the same reasons) and always seems to return there after trying to get her life back on track in the outside. So the same old story plays true in my heart also.
I know Scott has a great heart but until he wants to change his life and draw upon his friends for support there is not a lot any of us can do. I don't think Jail is the place for him, nor do I think rehab is. Until he wants to change we can only sit back and watch.
Damn I wish I wasn't so far away.
I fought sending a letter as I have delt with this before and before the weekend ends I will have made my decision.
Whatever way I choose Jamie please tell Scott it weighed on me and I did what I thought was best. I love him like a big brother no matter what and hope that he finds the inner peace we so desperatly hope he gets.

I hope the decision that is made in court allows Scot the opportunity dedicate himself to a change of lifestyle that will ease the minds of those closest to him, and by doing so, provide him with the strength to regain the dignity and self-respect that everyone must have to succeed.

I just hope this story has a happy ending.
I work with someone who has been chronically depressed for 14 years, and people say "just snap out of it". Well, its not that easy. It takes time, as do a lot things including this. But if you stongly believe you can climb out of the hole you have fallen into, there will always be people at different levels of that hole to enourage you to the top.
Be Strong. Be well.

Scot the buzz and happiness this world has had from you and your creation's are unbelievable !
i feel sad for the situation BUT hope that you can help yourself . all the well wishes in the world will not help you , if you dont help you !!!
There are literally millions of people in this world know you from what you have done , not personally but as the OM and as BMX itself , and im sure if they were on here , they would also express their support for you too .
