Hi Everyone,

I am so very upset! I hate not knowing for at least what ever the out come is at least at that point it's something to deal with. I am waiting for him to call me for they are taking him back to West Valley Detention Center in Rancho Cucamonga. If anyone wants to write him heres how to address it

I just saw this thread today, and now I feel bad for not paying better attention. I spent the last hour reading through it all. I'd be lying if I said I did'nt wipe a tear or two before I was done.
I happened to meet Scot kind of by accident at Rockford last year. He pulled up w/ a trunkload of drink in his car, and all I saw at that point was a guy w/ alot of unloading ahead of him, so I pitched in for a minute. As I and my friend Mike helped out, Mike says to me "you know who this is, right?" I had to admit I did'nt. So he tells me "this is the OM, dude" and introduced us. I looked at his face again and it clicked. Scot struck me as a totally friendly down-to-earth guy who truly deserves to be looked up to for what he has accomplished for this sport we all love.
That said, let me say that I am chiming in as another VBMX'er who is no stranger to illegal drug use. I have three friends from my high school days who are dead in their late thirties as a result of heroin addiction. Lucky for me my personality is such that my addictive periods do not last more than a week, then I "sort things out". And these periods occur less and less as I get older. Guess I'm "outgrowing" it. But I know from firsthand experience what Scot is going through now, and I want to support him however I can, regardless of the actual circumstance behind his incarceration.
And I've been in jail on a couple of occaisons, so I know firsthand what a joke they are. When you are in jail, you are not thinking about rehabilitating yourself. You are in survival mode, plain and simple, because in jail the strong prey upon the weak.
A note for Jamie - you are a good girl for not giving up on the OM. Alot of women would just turn their backs and walk away. Scot is lucky to have you on his side.
A note for Scot - you probably don't remember me, (I helped you unload your car of that sports drink at the Rock last year right as you pulled in) but my impression of you was "one of the guys" as we say in these parts, meaning that I think we would be good friends if we got to know each other. I feel like you are strong enough to put this behind you, and I will be praying that you can. When things get tough and the monkey is feeling extra-heavy, think about how you pretty much singlehandedly took a kid's fad and turned it into an real honest-to-god sport that is now an olympic event. If you did not exist, BMX would not be the same. That goes for then as well as today, dude. Get it together, man, I know you can do it!!
For the judge -
Your Honor - I'm sure you know at this point in time the history of the man in question. Despite what you may think of him and the direction his life has taken, I just want to re-iterate that Scot Briethaupt has pointed so many other kids down the right path, and touched many lives in a totally positive way. He is a good guy at heart. Please don't send him to jail where he will have to concentrate on pure survival and be constantly surrounded by negative influences. Please help him get to rehab instead, so he can learn to live in a more positive way. Thank you.

Jamie, hang in there dear lady. you are truly a beautiful person for being by Scot's side. I can't believe alot of the people on this board and where they stand. Besides isn't this hobby an addiction? Either way, I am no one to judge. If it's not to late, I would like to write a letter, as well as donate those dvd's to you. I have never met you or Scot, but I can't imagine what you both are going through, and have gone through. Hang in there. I agree that this may be a good thing for Scot, but Jail is no place to treat addiction, trust me, sometimes it is, but rehab is better, because it addresses addiction. In fact, I have studied addiction, and the only way to treat addiction is 9-18 months of professional drug rehab this allows the brain to recoup chemicals lost during using. Also, it is very important that rehab is followed up by a successful 9 month - 1 year out patient program. If Scot truly wants to stop, there is a way, and it is worth it. Addiction is very common in the US and please do not feel alone. Stand by Scot, and send him my support.
email me your address and I will send you the dvd's, as well as a professionaly written letter, next day air, no prob.
Take care of yourself dear lady.

After losing friends to drugs in more ways than one and almost myself(now over 9 yrs straight). Kids please don't do drugs, what starts out as a good time, escape from life's pain only turns into the worst of times and more pain than you started with. Learn other ways to deal with life's curve balls Drugs will kill you, your family or your friends one way or the other. Take a good look at your best friend as if he was dead, that's the feeling drugs will eventually bring to your life. That's what it brought me and there's not a day that goes by that I don't wish he was still here. I don't believe you just lock someone up for a user offence not once twice or three times(it's a sickness), even if it is the law. Drug users need true help, not just a cell waiting for the next go around. Wishing you the best Scot, may you once again find the OM.

Ive dealt with addicts my whole life. We all find God on our deathbed dont we, but in times of well being seem to forget. Hopefully Scott doesnt forget. I think two things come to mind, 1, wheres Stu Thompson, I would assume a CHP officers words would do wonders, and more importantly, Scott is a salesman and a genius, whom better to show clips of the movie while talking to youths around the country at assemblies? He can sell bmx, relive the past, remind himself of the future, and maybe save a child or two. Good luck Scott.

Dear Scott Freeman,
I will tell Scot you said HI and thank you for your support as well as everyone!!! Scot sends his love!
Scot's new court date is the 15th of this month at 8:30 in Victorville. If anyone can make it would send a strong message to the court.
Scot informed me that someone from this site mailed him a letter informing him that people were trying to picked up on me and so on... I have to say that I am very upset at this. I would appreciate that if your going to write him that you stay positive and inspire him. I would also like to add that this was a very cruel thing to do do both of us. We are going through a very tough time and the love we share for each other is what is holding this together and that anyone would start a rumor and to upset us both is not being a friend. I post his address for everyone to help support Scot so let stay focused! My message to the person who did this Please do not write or contact him again. You have no idea what that did to him and I! Scot knows that I love him and that I would NEVER stray from being US!
Maybe you need to find something else to do then try to hurt two people in love. I am holding back what I really want to say to you because I am on a public site. I pray Scot or I NEVER meet you!
For Everyone else thank you for everything!!!!!!!!! Scot and I are getting a lawyer to help instead of a court appointed one. He now has been through 4 different attorney's and none of them care enough to take the time to represent him well.
Take care and Scot would love to have letters or pictures from you.
Have a wonderful weekend!

Scot,
I have never met you in person but I have always admired what you have done for BMX. I have been a loyal rider of SE frames, most specifically P.K. Rippers since 1985. I think they're the best BMX frame ever made. I recently acquired a P.K. Ripper frameset that I have been building up and I still marvel at what you created. I hope that you beat your addiction so yet another generation of riders can appreciate the many innovations that you have created. Walking into a bike shop these days and seeing 80% of the BMX bikes using your designs has to be a good feeling. You have prehaps the most brilliant and creative mind in the entire history of BMX. To put things in perspective...an entire sport exists today because of what you did, and for that I have to say THANKS!!!
I only wish you the best,

As a regular member here, I have to say that i am embarrassed that another member here would do such a thing. For the most part, I believe that the guys here are good hearted and respect one another. Of course, there is always "one of those" in every family, and I think you and Scot found ours. For that, let me be the first to apologize as a collective voice of many of the guys here. Sorry to interrupt while we're grabbing our torches and pitchforks, but..
Maybe it was something innocent that got taken out of context, or misunderstood?
What if someone was trying to cheer up Scot by saying that as a community there are a few of us trying to pick her up? (meaning trying to lift her spirits) and then it was read the wrong way?
I mean, who knows, maybe someone was being negative, or trying to stir something up, nothing would surprise me nowadays, I'm just saying before we try to castrate someone, or go on a witch hunt, maybe they need to explore the whole 'misunderstanding' angle, and see if that might have happened.
It's easier for me to believe there was a misunderstanding, than to believe someone tried to sow discord into an already shaky situation.
Just wanted to throw that out there.. for what it's worth. (probably nothing)
Oh and by the way, it wasn't me, I haven't written to Scot, nor his girlfriend. I just had to get that out of the way before another rumor starts!

As a Police Officer, I see a lot of this type of behavior. Scot knows what he has done, he has been caught before and, obviously, it has not made a damn bit of difference. I have been involved in this sport since 1979, one of my best friends, Mike Corvin, was my "Scot Breithaupt". I looked up to him and still do, I respect him and love him, but do not condone drug use...we all need to grow up a lot sooner than this. Scot is a "hero" they say, I say he has let us down and now must face the consequences. Stop trying to get him out of trouble, if that was to happen, the law of averages...and believe me I know...will tell you that he will go right back again. You say jail doesn't help? Well guess what, IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE A NICE PLACE!!! Obviously, he has been given many chances before, or he would not be facing jail time. I am ashamed. My kids race now and this guy is supposed to be one of the people that I explain is one of the forefathers of our beloved sport? Thankfully, my kids are not old enough (yet) to be on here reading this. Sorry Scot, you need to take your lumps...and before any of you condemn me for my opinion, I want you to know that I wish Scot all the best and hope that he finds the willpower to stop doing stupid things and finally grow up. I will not endorse "treatment" programs without incarceration unless they are first-time offenders. Scot needs to grow up, he is a role model for kids and has been for years but this is not the role model I want for my kids. By the way, Stu is not a CHP Officer, as someone incorrectly stated, he is a Sheriff's Deputy, and I doubt he wants to be involved with this as he probably knows the true story and it's length. I respect what Scot has done in the past and appreciate it, I do not dislike him in any way, shape or form. I have met him and he is a nice enough guy but that is all irrelevant. As they say: "don't do the crime if you can't do the time".

reilly1,
You are obviously not a father, this is a family sport and what the leaders do directly affects what the young newcomers do, whether he likes it or not, he is saying to all of the kids out there, young and old, hey...this is okay. He is quite a legend, both in his own mind and in the eyes of many others and with this status comes responsibility, which, as far as I can tell, there is not a lot of.

This is for Black Shadow,
You have been a cop too long! You are to quick to judge and to put people away! I have seen this before you forgot about human compasion. What you need to see is that we are all peolpe no matter what color, what the past is we all bleed. If you shelter kids from the truth then they can not learn from someone else mistakes. Because Scot is a Hero in a lot of people hearts he is a human being first.
If you think by saying "GROW UP" is the answer then you dont know that in many case it is a chemical imbalance and its not a choice. You may not understand that for you are too quick to judge. Its unfortunate that we are missing why most people end up in Jail time after time? They need medical attention.
Example... Your child comes to you and says he's getting "F's in his classes" and you tell him study more! Is that the answer? Or would it be that you would give your son the TOOLS and Time to apply to be able to learn? now let's take that in Scot's sistuation and give him the tools and time he needs so he can be the person he so badly wants to be again.
One more thing... DONT EVER USE THE WORDS ASHAMED IN THE SAME SENTENCE AS SCOT"S NAME!
for you should not judge people. You need to be more informed in this before you become the expert. The jails are over flowing correct?? well, its not working is it? I'm sure you pick up the same peolpe time and time again. Have you ever really stop the think why? Put your energy into treatment instead of shoving it under the rug! Then maybe we would see the jails not so full!

Come on guys, no one is asking anyone to say what Scot did is OK, he knows it isn't as do we, but what is done is done, so if you don't want to write a letter to the judge, fine, but Don't send nasty letters to Scot & Jamie!!! It seems to me, that those of us who where chasing National points back in the 80s remember there was more than a few coke rumors, and it wasn't the racers they were about (well, they were really more than rumors, but since these where people putting on the races, I won't go any deeper than this, those who know do, those who don't, don't need to know) So if you want write Scot, please do, you don't need to talk down to him, just tell him a few stories about what BMX meant to you back in the day, but no more nasty letters unless you want something really unpleasant to happen to you.
