Bitter dee-vorce. Well they suck. Went through one 10 years ago and all I will say here is that I am different and better off for it. Good for you for getting out.

Some pretty cool people on this site will surely cheer you up.

Jeff, Its great to hear you are doing good. This site will bring all those great memories of some great times.
I have to say Thank You, you were the guy that kinda dragged me around the 1st time I came out there to Ca in 1976. All great memories.

Moderators - please adjust his status to "BMX Pioneer" ! ASAP

Would that be the same Greg Esser that crashed pretty hard (I think) at Fontana 2002 on the 250?

If so are you still racing?

Hey Jeff. Glad you made it on here.

well if it isn't Jeff FRICKING Bottema!!.......never had the pleasure to meet you in person Jeff but I raced at a lot of the races you were at . I'm a year or 2 younger than you. It would have been cool to race you man but I had a blast taking pics of you and watching you race. Anyway, I'm a San Diego dude. Here's a couple pics of you at Rancho in 1977 or 78. I already posted these in 1 or 2 other threads but just in case you didn't see them yet:

Mike Welsh

Curt. I don't want to hi-jack the great Bottema thread. But, yeah, it is the same Esser. He basically ripped his foot off of his leg. And also dislocated his shoulder. Wet haybales and humans at 100mph don't mix. Seven months later. Two weeks after getting his cast off. He raced in Va. He retired in 2004 (?)
Curt
John, thanks for the update. I am pretty sure you are one of seven who smoked my last place finish in a semi at an NBL National in mid 80s LOL.

As for Mr. Bottema, yes you were one of the guys I looked up to when I was a raced in the late 70s. Thanks.

If memory serves I am thinking that you had a custom 531 Raleigh/Rampar made for you lets say 80-81? Still have it?
Jet Black
Did you ever make , design or plan a Bottema frame ??

or would doing that have made things _really_ difficult with negotiations when getting a factory ride back then ???

Jeff Bottema , a forkin BMX legend

Do not overlook John Crews, he was factory Redline with Stu and Greg.(I think I saw your bike at McConnell Racing (Beavers) before the NBA grands 1980.) Anyway he was not slow.
JimBetts
Jeff, you were an inspiration to all of us from Bakersfield in the 70s, especially our bike shop (Kross Up) and our DG team.

Welcome…..jim
