Hello, just got the frame, no fork and wanted to restore it back to ERA correct original everything. Can any MCS experts help me out with what was stock on these? Like seat, post, clamp, pedals, rims, tires, hubs, ETC... I assume it had the 6 bolt stem? Any help would be great. (ALSO in need of decals) Ciao
billn
Ryan,

Good score on the MagnaCruise. With yours, I know of 4. Mine, yours, one that the person who sold me mine still has, and one in Florida. I met Greg Esser at the ABA grands when I had the bike on display, and he told me that he welded parts of my frame! Very cool. To my knowledge, these were only sold as framesets, so there is no original parts list. Mine is set up blue and gold to match the decals. BTW there are no decals available ANYWHERE. Bummer.

Here's a couple of pics of mine:

Here's a parts list of what's on mine:

MCS MagnaCruise frame and fork - DUH!
Sugino Super Maxy cranks and BB
MKS pedals
Araya 7C rims and Sunshine hubs - stainless spokes
Schwinn skinwall cruiser tires - like those that came on the King Stings
SR stem and VDC bars
Shimano Tourney brakes and Hare Trigger levers
Avocet Touring saddle, fluted post, and X-Caliber seat post clamp

I've seen one here in Austin, I think the owner's name is Roger and he is a member of this site as well. I just purchased a 24" Magnum and I'm looking for stickers too.
SCHVATTA
Hurricane Henry, there is a set of magnum 240 stickers on Ebay right now. I'm not sure how old your magnum is, but these decals look pretty nice.
SCHVATTA
Does anyone know how old these framesets are? When they first made/stopped production!
SCHVATTA
Billn, do you have closeups of HT, midbar, and fork decals? Because mine are not there. I have also seen a black outline set of foils too on these.
billn
Ryan,

I'm out of town until the 14th. I'll take some pics and pm them to you when I get home.

I have one here in Denver. I got it from Code Blue a couple of years back. I will post some recent pics. It used to look like this, but now It has more of the beach cruiser look.

Thanks Schvatta!!!

What's the deal with the decals? I see Billn has blue/gold MCS decals and scotty tbmx has all black. Does anyone know what the FIRST year was with what color combo? What was last year color combo? I'm just trying to determine, if and when I find some stickers, which set to keep an eye out for. Maybe I should try to contact Mr. Esser...

I bought my bike from the shop that originally purchased it from MCS, and was told it was bought as soon as the bikes were put on the market. That makes me think the blue/gold decal combo is early, and the black decals came later. Also, the black decals have a similar look to some other later MCS decals I've seen. This is pure conjecture, so don't hold me to it, but that's what I'm thinking. I'd never seen the black decals until this post - different, but kinda cool all the same.
scottytbmx
Mine is the Cro Mo version and yours is the mild steel version. Ha ha, just jokin'. My serial # is 359. Couldn't find any pictures in my BMXAs. Wish I had the MCS forks. Almost had the stem but Blue hooked up somebody here with it right before we made the deal. Let me know if you find out. Very cool bikes. I druelled over yours in the museum before I got mine. Mine has a CBR stem and cranks now, and I got rid of that cheesy seat. Welcome to the club. Scotty

That's not my bike in the museum, it's another one.

OK guys, I just got an email from mr Greg Esser himself and the email reads. Hi Ryan, Thats cool that you found one of these frames. I believe we started making them in mid 79, but i'm not real sure when they stopped. I think it was about 84 though. I did look on vintage and the picture with the black decals are the original ones and we did sell them as a complete bike for a very short time. I couldn't begin to tell you the components on it. I hope this helps you a little and good luck. Let me know how it ends up. Greg
scottytbmx
Cool. Nice of Greg to take time out to give us the 411. Good work Schvatta.
SCHVATTA
Yes, I was very *SURPRISED* that he responded, and so quickly too. I figured I would give it a shot and you never know. Really nice guy. Thanks Greg Esser!!!

I have an MCS Magna Cruise
I Bought it brand new in the early 80's.
I'm not sure exctly what year I bought it.
But I'm looking in my issue of BMX Plus from
Febuary 1981 which has the full add.
Mine has the MCS Frame and Fork set
Plus the MCS seatpost, the MCS Gooseneck,
and the MCS Wing Bars. I purchased the
Frame and Fork Set first and added the rest of the
parts one by one.
I'm right now in the process of
restoring the bike.
I have not figured out how to post pictures on this
forum. I do not know how to create a URL.
But I do have a scan of the add in BMX plus if you want,
I can email that to you.

Thanks,

Thanks Bill for finding this old relic. I just sent you a message. I'm almost finished with my build. I just waiting for my front sunshine hub to come in and then I can get started lacing my wheelset and that's about it. Well, I would love to have that MCS 6 bolt stem and bars...
gesser26
Funny story. the first 6 bolt stem that we made was put on my bike and I rode over the NBL office. I had the bike inside and all of the sudden we here the sound like a bebe being shot and bouncing all over the place. A few minutes later same thing again. We couldn't find anything at all.
So after a few minutes I grab my bike and head out the door and about crash my brains out in the parking lot. The bolts were to hard and the heads were popping off while the bike sat there.
Of course this was only discovered when I got on the bike to leave.
Some things you just will always remember.

Any ideas on how to get replacement stickers for MCS ?
The one on my stem has a corner missing.
And the one on my seat post is really scratched up.
The Head tube sticker is the only one to survive on the
Frame and the Bars and forks are bare.
I actually like the frame and forks mostly naked.
But a new seat post sticker Stem Sticker and Head tube
sticker would make my Restoration that much better.
I'm toying with if the scratched stickers look better than no
sticker at all right now.

I'll Post some pictures as it comes together.
My digital Camera sucks and I'm getting tired of
going to walgreens to develop pictures that don't suck.
I'm looking for a better Digital Camera.

BTW. I did Race the MCS Magna Cruise a couple times
in Cruiser class. That's why mine is setup BMX style.
I went back to 20" Bikes because these are too Heavy to
Jump moguls and not overshoot berms with.
But I did ride the MCS Magna Cruise from San Jose
To Santa Cruz. Which is about 30 Miles over a 1500 Foot
Mountain. I did it with a cassette Hub a Few Rear Gears
and some extra chain links to change gears on the road.
My Friend had a 10 speed. We made it in 7 Hours one way.

Thanks,

What are the production years for the pro bars in that pic?

Greg...
Great story!!!
That was funny!

It would be great to make up new "old school" MCS stickers, but it looks like we are not going to have them. So many models and decals, and it's hard to make every one of them!
I know.. I know..... that's a bummer!

Can we at least generate some MAGNA CRUISE deacls? That would be a good starting point. I would really take a set, maybe a few... My decals are shot, rippled, frayed and faded.

Nice builds.
