Dude nice, did you get the chrome redone, if so where I have a 84 Pro Racer that I just got done rebuilding but the chrome blows frame, fork, and flights, any help would be great. Thanx hetdog22@adelphia.net

Blinging goodness. Well done.

Nice looking bike!

Best looking ACS stem I have ever seen

Those stems were/are very under rated. I ran one on my 82 GT24 bitd. Tough stems, and just the right size for me.

Great looking bike. Very cool to see some alternate parts pick from the run of the mill Pro Racer (that includes mine)

Get a second mortgage on your house and you can put some Aerospeeds on it!

Thanks for the replys, everyone. Here are some more pics, & a quick history of the bike:

This is my original Hutch from '82 - the parts are not run-of-the-mill, because it's one of the 1st frames made available to the public - I ordered it the month it came out, & had to wait for production - this is when the frames were made by Speed U., here in NJ.
I hand picked the parts I wanted - I didn't bother with Aerospeeds, because I wanted the cranks to be bulletproof ( 180mm 1 piece Chromoly Tiogas, with a Pete's Precision Bearing Sealed bottom bracket - they spun as smooth as any 3-piece set out there).

If you look real close (I've got a better camera now - I'll take some new closeup picks when I get a chance) you'll see some cool, original stuff that is still on the bike:
Under the ACS stem is a Stem Shim kit: basically a couple of pieces of polished aluminum, which let you run the stem higher up in the headset without it flexing.
Also there is the original Suntour Headset Lock & SST Dirt Skirt.

The hubs are Sunshine - Large flange front & small flange rear - unsealed because I used to take them apart & regrease & adjust the drag on them almost weekly.

The rims are the original ACS graphite Z's - pretty much indestructable for whatever I did with them. They were brand new also - small raised letters on them, rather than the big whiteletters which came out afterwards.

The pedals were too far gone to restore - I paid a small ransom to replace them with exact, unused brand new replacement DX's....

Anyway, I sold the bike to a distant cousin in the early 90's - it was still in mint condition. He gave it back to me on 2003 after I found this site & I realized what it would be worth (in memories, not $$). This is what it looked like when I got it back:

Here are a few more pics after the rechrome:

Sorry this post is so long....it gets me pretty wound up just knowing I have the bike back. I can't wait for the weather to break - there's nothing like taking it out for a spin on a sunny day & blowing the doors off my kids' Haro & Specialized bikes in a drag race :-)

Hetdog22,
The chrome was redone by Chrome & Custom,
on Rt 46 in Fairfield, NJ. They sent it out to whoever they use, but they are a good bunch of people - Orange County Choppers uses them sometimes.

H-meister,

I'm going to Custom Chrome & Cycle sometime soon to do some handlebars, forks and possibly a seatpost. They're one town over from me.

Nice looking bike and great job on the restoration.

BTW, did you get a call tuesday night right around 11pm about a sewer collapse?
Hutchmeister
MNW,
Thanks...

I heard something about a sewer problem, but it didn't affect me. It must have been a different part of town.

That's cool to get a bike back that you actually rode BITD.
Wise choice with the cranks.
Post pics of the whole bike when it's done...
