Spent the weekend at Rick and Patti Twomey's place. Once again I was amazed at the pictures, magazines and information I got from Rick and Patti about the early days.

Rick has to have THE best collection of literature dealing with the sport. He also has the pictures. He allowed me to scan some pictures and post them here for all to enjoy and perhaps learn a little. You guys can check out more stuff at his site. His is not a competing site, just another source of information for anyone interested in the roots of the sport.

Thanks Rick and Thanks Patti for your hospitality.

BUMS TRACK

BOBBY ENCINAS

That 3rd pic is Bad ***!!! I dont know who it is but I have to give big props for going that Big on a cement transfer jump with apehanger handlebars!! Thanks for the pics!
old school PK
I think the mystery rider is Mel Stoutsenburger boostin' at a place called "the wash". I'm more sure about the rider than the spot. Check out Clinton sportin' the fedora in the backround. I also think that is Bobby Watt's on the other side wearing the white euro hat.

The top photo of JP chasin' some local down is not Palms, but Bums in Long Beach. Breithaupt may know who the leader is, but if you look at the guy in 5th you'll see it's Lund.

Post some more, this stuff is cool!!!
spike
Cool stuff, Rick does have cool historical stuff and it's been fun helping him search his place for it. It's always b!!tchin' hanging with Rick and Patti.

Sweet shots as always, Rick sure looks like he has the goods. Killerr stuff from the early days. You don't see enough of this stuff!
TEAMRICK aka RICK TWOMEY

that is dave clinton on th right.

WOW!
old school PK
Sorry Rick about slackin' on returning the messages. I'd try to give an excuse but it would just sound lame.

I'll call you tomorrow in the afternoon. I'll be on my way back from Orange County and will have time to talk.

Yes I do remember going to the wash. I think we went there and also to Vons in Sylmar the same day right after racing Yarnell. I think Richie Lee and Mike Devitt went there that day as well.

Talk to you soon.

PK

You ain't seen nuthing yet. There's a few more killer pictures coming up. Having said that, I scanned less than one percent of Rick's stuff and I'm all amped out after seeing some of the stuff and the stories he has about the old days had me laughing on the ground one minute and a tear in my eye the next.

The scariest pics would be of PK WITHOUT a moustache..

Here's one more for fun: Again, rider and location

Perry:

I tried to reach you a few months back...

I have a special set of decals for that Kappa PK-20 of yours. They're black and sliver, and match up with the black frame (I got one too) a bit better. I just need a place to send them. Please let me know.

You can email me at knickel@columbus.rr.com.
Sorry for hijacking the thread.

It's got a Schwinn rear end and some home made Straight tubes welded on the front end. I think Butch rode for Canoga Cycle Center and they modified their Schwinns to accept long (6 1/2") diamond cranks.

Check out the custom bannana seat!
pquinnbmx
this is old school real bmx stuff. no clips, no double step ups, no national points.
spike
The way it really used to be, the way I remember it.

These are some of the coolest pictures I've ever seen! Please keep posting them Rick!
Reilley1
Here's a few more. Again thanks Rick

Check out this catalog insert.

And the backside of the same. If you look at the address, it is Skip's old house. We were going to drive there so i could get a picture but it was hailing!!

and my favorite one so far. Again name the riders (PK, wait till someone else guesses this time will ya!)

I've been silently admiring these pics since you posted them yesterday -- absolutely amazing slice o' history!

I'm REALLY digging the first photo in this latest set: Thom Lund in action on the famed looptail Red Line. Truly defining photographs -- keep 'em coming!

I am really glad you guy's are enjoying "Rick's Treasures"! I admit that I have complained over the years "Why are you keeping all of this junk"? Now I know why, for all of you to remember the goodtimes we had, and to show the younger guy's, what Old School BMX was really about.
Reilley1
The equally legendary Patti Twomey chimes in. Truly the first lady of BMX. Thanks for your hospitality and friendship Patti!!

Patti- I met you last year at Joe Kid and you and Rick were so friendly that I could instantly see why everyone loves you both so much.

Rick- Thank you so much for all this. I can feel the summer sun shining and taste the dirt when I see those shots.
Greg Hill
Excellent pics!!!

We're very lucky to be exposed to this.
spike
It's just the tip o' the iceberg of what he has. I was amazed at the photos he had and when I saw them it took me right back to 30yrs ago. He had a copy of the pic that had been etched in my head for 30yrs when I first saw it in Minicycle Mag. Plus Rick and Patti's friendship has been great. Wish I was 16 again....
G-Flash
WOW! Is all I can say!
TIM
ah.... the missing "Lund" Red Line looptail...

note the "Red Line" decal is on the top tube; Palfreyman's was on the down tube.
G-Flash
I bet Tim has the Lund redline in his secret vault and he's just waiting for the Smithonian to make an offer!
spike
The story is Lund's Red Line got stolen. Also, the guys started running Mongoose frames, maybe around 1976.

Rick and Patti Twomey:

Thank you so much for sharing all of these cool pictures and stuff with Rick/reilly1 and all of us. It's the coolest!
Kastanman
AWESOME pics.

Gotta love that last pic. Rocks in the rhythm section is a cool obstacle
J-RO
Great pics! When BMX was actually on dirt and knobby tires really mattered. Imagine the horror for the new school kids if they had to ride on dirt like that.
TEAMRICK aka RICK TWOMEY
ok boys & girls, its me again.
what reilley1 didn't ask is who? where ? and anything you see special in the pic. one of my best

I think the picture is of Reilley
SLAYER
Looks like a 1 footer! Are those bars bending as the pic was taken?
Mike Welsh
Yo TEAMRICK: Does that dude in the middle pic only have one leg? I know it could just be the angle but it doesn't seem like it's the angle of the photo. It looks to me like he has one leg. I am clueless as to who it is. Thanks again for the amazing pic's man!
G-Flash
Spike I know if the Lund redline ever turns up it will no doubt that Tim will somehow manage to find it and own 2 of 2! PERFECTION!
Is that a pic of Bobby on a webco hardtail?
Sodbuster
Beautiful. Just awesomely beautiful. Thanks for posting those pics Reilley. And thank you Rick and Patti for letting him do it! They are just what these tired old eyes needed. (Wipes away tear.) I wonder if the kid landing front wheel first with one foot made it? I have a feeling he didn’t. But I hope he did.
spike
Yup, that Bobby on a Webco, cool pic. Lund's looptail is probably at the bottom of a wash, taking space in a landfill or possibly sitting in some oxygen thief's backyard rusting away.
spike
Actually, the frames weren't Lund's or JP' but Rick's, he's the one that helped get them made, they just rode em.
BenOr
Very nice. Thanks for sharing.
Reilley1
Come on Rick, we are dying to hear about the kid on the # 27 bike. I remember a little about him but I'm sure you know the full details.
TEAMRICK aka RICK TWOMEY
reilley1 i can't tell as much as i would like to about this picture. the kid in the middle picture. yes he has only one leg. i dont know his name i wish i did. this is one of my favorate pictures. this guy would race the down hill track with no fear. he didn't come in last place either.
cant really say what year about 1972 or 73 ? notice the old paper number plate.the track i am pretty sure is solodad sands. this track was one of the big long down hill tracks. this picture was taken near the end of the course. he wasn't very high, but you can tell he was moving. thr tire flat to the rim. the ape hanger handle bars, are they bending? looks like it. the last thing i can say for sure about this picture is that he did not crash. not this time anyway. the kid had guts. hope that helps.
