I have an expert ELF all nos and my daughter would rather race this bike instead of getting a new one. My wife don't think I should because it took over a year to build but thats why they should be built. So I told her I would let everyone on here to decide. Please help so I don't get yelled at anymore.
chopperman48
Why not. You could always build another one.

Definitely. We all need to remember, they are bikes. Let her ride it. She will never forget it, and she will love you for it.

She wants to race, thats great! I've got 2 girls racing now and they love it. If she hasn't started racing but is showing an interest, get her on the track - the ELF probably is just fine to start. It was made to race originally, right? She wont break it - its fixable if she does (darn, new parts)

Eventually if she really gets competitive you might want to go new school, but for now - give her a shot!

change out to some other pedals, grips and maybe brake lever if they're rare/exotic and go let her rip it up! my girl likes her 26yo bmx way better than her new race bike too, just feels safer she says... don't forget the camera & post pics please!!

Yes, but cover it in bubble wrap.
Gooser
Yeah, let her race it. Get it off the living room rug and onto the track where a BMX bike belongs!
Randy
Yes. You love the bike, your daughter loves the bike. No brainer.

Both of my boys began their racing days on a 1984 Mongoose I picked up long before the internet or my collecting days, once they graduated to needing serious modern bmx bikes thats what I bought them, the Mongoose was then restored era correct, it now belongs to them.
shinburger
Heck yes. Just change out the parts that wear easily like Velocidad said tires to if they are hard to find.
Not really anything you can't fix or resto later.
If my little girl wanted to race and she only wanted one of my bikes she could ride anyone of em.
shinburger
Besides if it's already built it's not truly NOS anymore is it?=)

Am I the only one who's going to vote "no"?

My son started with a 2004 DK Nemesis and liked it. Then every other kid seemed to have one as well. He wanted something different, that everyother kid didnt have, so we bought a NOS 97 GT aluminum jr frame still in the shrink wrap. Granted, its not true old school, but still has regualr brakes and we have yet to see another. He also has a v brake Free Agent and still wants his old one. I just bought him a fellow VBMX members Hutch Junior Racer and am slowly building that and it will be ridden at the track. These things are meant to be enjoyed. When i pick up my old number plates, every chip and crack tells a story. Let your kid and that bike have stories to tell.

Be happy that she wants to ride it.Just think how proud you'll be when you see her riding it.You have the chance to make a connection with your daughter through the bike.Besides, bikes are meant to be ridden. And let's face it,the bike's a little too small to be ridden by you, right? So I say:YES!-Danny

Hey fatbaldguy don't take this the wrong way but that is the stupidest question I have ever heared asked on this site. She is your DAUGHTER ,right? You LOVE her, right? It's just a bike, right? What the hell did you build an NOS ELF mini for? HER! RIGHT DAD? She's only going to be a kid once, let here race it crash it, get up and and ride the wheels off that mini! That's what the bike was made for. You won't regret it, the memories that this will create will last a lifetime for the both of you. God Bless!

BMX DOG DAD
YES, YES, YES, Like it has been said. Remove everything except frame and fork, replace same parts with new, and let he have a ball. When (if) she wants out, put iy back the way it is. That way you both can enjoy the bike. BDD
