For those who don't remember I have been working on opening a bike shop in my detached garage for about 6 months now. The whole idea came to be after visiting the local skate park and noticed that it is packed every weekend. The local bike shop has very little BMX gear at all. Another shop about 15 miles away has some cool stuff but the owner is such a nice guy that some folks don't care to deal with him. So I called up a old friend from BITD. Mike Corley who is one of the owners of EASTERN BIKES. He got me pointed in the right direction and has been very helpful in getting everything lined up.
At this point I will be carrying EASTERN, S & M, FIT, TERRIBLE ONE, 2 HIP, FBM and more are in the works.
For those who are in the area feel free to stop by and check the place out. I have lots of vintage gear on display. I will open at 10 am on March 18th. I'll put a map quest link below and please tell me what you think of the logo. Later guys.

More power to you bro. I admire anyone with the balls to venture out and start their own business. I have been contemplating opening a skate park for about the past year and as I crunch the numbers, I just can't see it making the money I've been accustomed to making.

I've been contemplating doing the same thing. My son keeps telling me to open a bike shop in my back garage.

Good luck man. Have you thought about carring GHP? Alan Whorley would be the man to talk to at ghporders@yahoo.com.

why don't you become the only Kuwahara dealer in the United States? Might not be a good business decision but it sure would help me out

Good luck on the new business...
LBS is the egg in the cake mix of life.
I know a guy named Doug who used to build wheels at Velocity (now has his own gig) ...anyway he said that his dad used to run Eastern Bikes (time frame like early 60s). Wonder if it is the same Eastern Bikes?

Not the same. This Eastern was start by a riding buddy of mine from BITD. He started building frames in his moms shed back in 93. He later hooked up with Jon Byers and Keith King And officially started the company in 96 I think.

Cool & good luck with it. I had the opportunity to buy a shop about 2 years ago, but passed on it due to the location & the fact that the owner had just signed a 5 year lease. I would love to do a bmx shop (a'la Rockville BMX) but I'm not sure how well it would do. One of the families at the track started a mobile shop they run out of their garage & 2 trailers at the track. They are doing pretty well considering they have no overhead (rent) & all the LBS's don't do much bmx. Especially race stuff.
