I picked up a set of skyway 24" tuffs with the metal hubs and was wondering if there is a way to tell the year? thanks for any help

After taking the bike apart to clean everything I discovered the front and rear are different models. They are both tuff two's but the front has an aluminum hub and the back is a steel flanged coaster brake that has had a freewheel adapter installed. The grease pencil inside the rim channel says 112383 on both. I'm assuming the are both from nov 83 but if anyone knows anything else please post. thanks, Sean

I'm not sure but I think the alloy hubbed (fronts) coaster braked rears were all steel. I know mine were and are.

yep, don't think they ever made a steel front hub 24" but all the coaster break were steel hubs.

I knew the coasters had to be steel. But I wasn't sure how they paired them with the fronts. It looks odd because the logo on the steel flange looks really old compared to the more modern logo on the front flange. If my numbering theory is correct them they were produced at the same time. I think I'll clean them and the comp 3's up today. thanks, Sean

The coasters back then always had steel flanges but they did change the shape of the flange the same way they did with the fronts. The early ones had the square looking flanges while the later ones had the more star looking ones. Although the fronts became alloy when they changed the shape, the rears stayed steel. I wouldn't be surprised if there was an overlap where the fronts were new but the coasters hadn't been changed.
