Sal Zeuner Sr., I mean what can we say...Vineland BMX Track THE track in Southern NJ, I remember my first time rolling down that starting hill and into that monster turn and thinking OH MAN THIS ROCKS!..

I never met Echel but was impressed by his dialed uniforms always. I was always so undialed. He rode for Patterson back in those days.

Sal Zuener was a huge inspiration to me. My first race ever was at his parents track in Vineland in 1978. I met his parents that weekend. That summer I went into their shop, Pedalers East and bought my first real race bike from Sal himself (He sold me his MCS Z1).

The issue of BMXA where Sal got the cover featured a letter by me to BMXA about Sal.

I used to hang out alot with them including Jenny and Terry. Terry was less famous but equaly cool and a fast NJ Pro also. He was co sponsored by SE for a while. Seems their shop was tied in with SE and DG.

When they stopped running Vineland it was the end of a era and BMX as we knew it in South Jersey.

I remember that cover. I bought (one of) Sal's used DG's in candy yellow from him in 1978 when I was ten. I remember his sister was my age and super cute.

i live in vineland. i hear sal is around every now and then. im to young to know him though, alot of my older friends raced with him and mentioned his name. i used to cut school and ride all the way across town to ride the vineland bmx track. i learned how to drive stick shift there when i was 14 in a old dodge d 50. the lot where the track was is still there ,empty and all grown over. its a shame nobody opened it back up.

I actually went to the city with Caveman in 1990? and they were excited about reopening it. They just wanted more info from us. But it was like an hour and half drive from my house. So I decided if I ran it I would HAVE to make the trip every weekend and that made me give up. The city though was very receptive to reopening then.
With the Olympics and the X games exploding I'm sure they'd be interested even more now.

Did Richie Votta ever make the main at the Jag Worlds? Did he trophy? Why yes, yes he did.
Sal Z. is still living in the Vineland area, his parents still live in the same house. Jenny Z. lives in SW Colorado, Terry Z. was living in Ohio in the mid 90s and even raced cruiser, but think he may be back in NJ.
Gary Mason WWR
