I have to say the unique frame & forks designs.
Back then you can tell what someone was riding from a mile away. Now you could be riding it yourself and not know what it is.
That and hangin around with all my good friends.

I miss the times we used to have with about 15 local area kids and friends that would all meet at a place called "KILLER HILL" every day (a 12' dropoff with a small track after we landed- it had berms and jumps). I also miss the ability to do a really big jump (over 30'). And I especially miss the team comraderie, we had a real sense of belonging in 1978-1980.

Most of my memories are from the really early days...
- Bicycle Motocross News
- JOFA mouth guards
- original style flat duckbill helmet visors
- low budget racing--just put a few heavy duty parts on your old stingray and it's off to the track
- wheels with .105 and .120 spokes that weighed a ton
- All the too numerous to mention old brands of frames and forks that are gone but not forgotten
- Preston Petty hex grips
- and mostly hanging around with my gang of friends up the street at the vacant lot, riding and jumping for hours at a time

Spicoli's list is right in line with mine. (Cliff & Randy RIP, Phoebe Cates - smokin' hot!) I'd also add:
1) Haro Lightning plates on everyone's bikes.
2) Traveling to far off races only to find out that we are staying in the same hotel as the DiamondBack factory team! (Harry, Doug, Pete, Eddy)
3) Watching Haro do a special request flat land demo in the parking lot at the Winter Nationals in Chandler right before He and RL did their trick show for the rest of the attendees. (thanks for grabbing him Pop)
4) Endless amounts of shiney dust caps for my 3-piece cranks. (anybody have an extra set they want to get rid of????)
5) Figuring out gear ratios to blow the next guy's doors off!!!

Most of you guys have covered the same stuff as I miss from bitd, growing up eating ,living ,breathing & speaking BMX here in Australia. So I won't list or repeat all of them....
AUD $1 buying US $1.27 instead of ~72 cents now.
Waiting for my Action Now magazine to arrive by airmail.
All the people.
All the places.
Being able to meet , share stories & trade in person with the US blokes who came here to race & have some fun, rather than just seeing & reading about them in magazines.

Thanks PK
Looking outside now I'd have to include
River Jumping on a hot summer day too.

Being able to catch huge air without crashing. Riding my old quarter-pipe.
I quit jumping in the 90's and just got back into BMX about 1.5 years ago. I decided to start building and riding 26" cruisers do to a bad back and being tall. I love them but I just can't jump worth a terd anymore. I feel like my feet just float off the pedals if I try to get any big air. I now have to resort to race style jumping. You would think it's like riding a bike.........

Are you for real alcruiserdad ?
The only time we were ever sitting on our seats riding around on an day long adventure was when we were tucked down doing speedruns downhill , the rest of the day's riding was spent "standing up on the pedals" , cranking up a hills or cranking towards anything that looked interesting or vaugely possible to jump off & grab some air.
I should draw up a route or 2 on a map of Sydney to show you the amount of ground we would cover in a day of riding , sweet FA of that time was spent sitting down pedaling on our seats....tireless legs came were part & parcel living the life bitd....
