Full Version: Girl on a Hutch in a new textbook
VintageBMX.com > VintageBMX Talk > Vintage BMX Racing

This is so cool. I work at a book printer and I was in the room while this one new book was being proofed, and I noticed a kid on a bike on a page. I said to the guy from a couple desks away something like "Hey, a bike, let me see what that is". Expecting it to be just some new generic whatever, more or less just joking with the guy because I noticed a small bike on a page from about 10 feet away. He blows up on it and I notice the forks and the head tube sticker. HUTCH! So weird. This is a brand new 2006 textbook, a Math book, and there's an old Hutch in it. I have to wonder if the designer knew it or if he just used an old file photo. Here's a clip of the page.

Sad isn't it...within a few posts, we will probably have a complete parts breakdown of the bike, and several of us, will be trying to track it down...

LOL
SLAYER
She's the bomb. I've never seen that trick before. A one hander while holding and chucking a paper. That might win gold at X games.
Mike Welsh
I happen to be a math nerd so how bout, just for ships and grins, you put up the whole page so I, and other math geeks, can check out the problem. Gawd I'm sooo weird..... MATH

She wants her $2.00.

Here is the math problem:

Kate has a Vintage BMX Bicycle. She spends most of her time getting accosted by old men wanting to buy it from her. If she sells the bike to someone for $50.00 and a $10.00 newspaper subscription and he turns around and sells it on E-bay (after bragging about his find) with a $4000.00 BIN. How many newspaper subscriptions will Kate have to sell to make up for the money she could have had if she knew what she had?

A. 400 subscriptions
B. She will be on a pole in 10 yrs anyway
C. Hutch stuff is Overrated

has anyone ever heard of "the Onion" - a satirical newspaper? they use that same picture in an ad looking for delivery people, except they Photoshop on the head of some crazy-looking old guy. and yes, i found myself scrutinizing the pic the first time i saw it !!!

Guess what?

About a month back I was walking down the street and noticed a chick on a chrome 20" BMX riding on the footpath over the other side of the road.

I thought the bike looked 'old school' from my vantage point of 50metres away so ran accross the road to head her off.

I managed to stop her to check out her bike.
It was a pre-serial Hutch with OK parts on it.
She new exactly what it was and was pretty into it.
I'd say she be about 20 and she was a hottie.
I later bumped into her in town and she said "hey you're the guy who stopped to ask me about my Hutch!".
Turns out she's a model - lol.

Anyway, that's my 'girl on a Hutch' story for ya!
The Eventide
A. She has a job.
B. She has a cool bike.

Any chick that meets those 2 prerequisites is alright in my book.

thats pretty cool its gotta be a old photo last time I saw any kid delivering papers was back in the 90s ,, now they just run around your hood with a broken exhaust pipe at 4 in the morning ,,god do I want to beat that guy!!!!! great picture though!!!! funny farm

They aren't paying paper delivery people nearly enough to buy that hutch. Shes better off working a pole (in 10 years)
The Eventide
Mike... Hopefully the 'older brother' would kick some sense into her.

Cru: "Let's walk this sucker"
Girl on Hutch: "SMACK" (with newspaper) Then she beats his record time by two minutes while tossing a newspaper in the cops spokes as he's chasing her through the lumberyard. Then while racing Helltrack does the same to Bart Taylor, and Rod and Rex, while wearing the newspaper carrier.

OK Mike Welsh. I don't want to post the whole page because years ago someone got in trouble for posting something from a video game guide somewhere, (legal issues) but the problem was:

Kate has $37. She earns $10.00 delivering newspapers on Monday. She spends $2.00 for a cup of frozen yogurt. On Tuesday, she visits her grandmother and earns $5.00 washing her car. On Wednesday, she earns $5.00 for baby-sitting. On Friday she buys a sandwich for $2.75 and spends $3.00 for a magazine. (I bet it was BMX Plus!)

9. a. Use arrow language to show how much money kate has left. (What the heck is arrow language???)
b. Suppose Kate wants to buy a radio that costs $53. Does she have enough money to buy the radio at any time during the week? If so, which day?

OK, I'm horrible for wasting your time with this one here, but Mike asked for it.

"Look, Somebody gone a head and thrown away a perfectly good White boy..." biggrin.gif

Kate's needs to sell some more papers to buy herself a new pair of grips!

TONE
those are knock off cw bars.............can tell my the shape.

John De Bruin
I say Hutch hubs, just by how the forks are pinched so bad. I've already fixed that on the re-issue design by including CNC'd aluminum washers that match the diameter of the locking collars and take up the slack. cool.gif
Bob Poffinbarger
what about the Flight pad set? no one said anything about those. and what's the date code on the brake cable, is it period correct?
Brian B
That looks like Grubbs from around 1988.
dayride
Heard she saved enough paper route money to be at Rockford in 09. She wants best of show and plans on racing in the BS open without clips.

Publishers buy the cheapest stock photos. Greedy bastages
