Keep_It_Warm
THIS one is SUPER-sweet Tim! I love it!
scottTowne
I will only criticize this build because it is otherwise so completely flippin' awesome, but Oakley 3s?
Socalbmxer
Can you tell us about that tree in the background?

Nice sled......colors are perfect. Clean and simple!

TIM............

Tim your the man

What's the deal with that seat-post clamp? Looks very interesting...
Evan
Another spectacular specimen, to be sure.

Is that one of those GJS clamps with the binder bolt that tightened against a bent-dime-looking doohickey?

Always wondered how well those worked, does it tighten sufficiently?
Dave Muggleston
Builds like this make me want to put all of my NOS parts in a box and send them to TIM.
TIM
i'd be happy to send you my address, dave!
spike
You know Tim's butt is totally shining from all the kissin' that has been going on the last 2 days. Just bustin' stugots.....lol.
G-Flash
When does it end?
66alfa_gtv
Tim - what's the story on those rims? Are they aluminum or steel? I had a Cheetah in the 70s with orange rims. I seem to rember they were steel Arayas.
larryS
Incredible! Another great build Tim!
Yasser
Im quitting building vintage bmx, no way u can keep up wth the Timster!! As usual, gd stuff.
BMX2112

On the JU6 and this, I can't help but keep going back to Rockford a few years back. Jeff Utterback and I are admiring Scott Townes JU6. Jeff say how cool it is except for that the alloy 3 peice cranks are "gay". If it were today, perhaps he'd call the cranks so "brokeback" and they'd be huge.

There is nothing wrong with gay, brokeback, and Tim's bike are awesome, but Townes face keep coming back to me (as he watched from 5' back) as I look at those light weight cranks...
Jeff Utterback
Coors Light + me at Rockford = stupid comments I'll never live down.

I'm such an idiot.

BTW, Brian Lewis ran alloys on his Stroker, need I say more?
scottTowne
Brian Lewis probably ran Oakley 3s, too. I love the orange rims though (and every single other detail, 'cept for the previously mentioned ski pole handles). I have a pair of Ourys I'd gladly send you--It ain't no OM Flyer anyhows. And Ben, I believe the term Jeff used to describe the cranks on his namesake bike was "f_ggoty".
BenOr
LMAO - I love being able to shoot the e-sh*t with guys like Towne and Jeff.

In 1978, I learned that alloy cranks were dumb. Jeff took me jumping and he was on a Mongoose with Steel cranks and coaster brake (his race bike) and I was on a DG SuperPro with Campy cranks. After that trip I never, ever used anything but Takagi 175mm cromo cranks. Except for the week with non pinch flights that sucked. Could not use enough lock tite to keep them on. Sorry for the hike.

TIM is detail king! He will go to no end. Nice job as always.
TIM
all right, all right.. simmer down! i will dig out the takagi cro-mo cranks (i think i have one each in black and chrome) and swap out the f_ggoty alloys!

hey, i got the coaster right on the JU-6!

scott.. feel free to send me the Ourys. i'll put 'em on if they show up.

Remember though, it's 14 year old f_gs that would be riding this thing BITD anyway... alloys sucked but they did the trick when I was 12. If you tanked it down with heavy stuff, we'dve felt it.
jesboogie
Nice Scoot! The rims set it off. I love terrycables, but that white one looks short. Perfect otherwise,

Very Nice!!

Another Sweet build Tim!.......

I'll send you my Address and you can send me the F-gotty Campy cranks. I'll gladly put a mirror on them, and use them on a Sting!

Ya gotta love the 130 BCD on the Campy chainrings! Instead of blocking out the view like a power disc, you can see the BB from both sides!!!

I know what to do with a set of Campys!.....I'll take real good care of those babys! I'll match them to an Edco BB!!!!

How many semi-trailers does it take you to get the collection to Rockford anyway? Wow!.....
TIM
them's is Sugino road cranks on the GJS and Shimano Dura Ace road cranks on the JU-6, Ted. no Campys.
Ted Carl
Oops, My bad, the logo looked like a campy logo on the GJS on the monitor....Aparently that would be the Sugino "Crown" logo. Similar design though!

I never liked the 130 BCD chainrings BITD, only because of the relative rareness, and inability to borrow, trade, and swap, chainrings with anybody and their brother at the races, like you could with the standard 110s. Since getting involved with OS builds, I absolutely love the way you can see through the 130 chainring cranks, and see more of the bike with them!

The cranks are sweeeeet on the GJS, but they do have more of a sleek racer feel to them, as opposed to the rest of the GJS build, looks more suited to extreme duty in the battle trenches! It has a battle toughened street fighter look to it. I love the seat too! Sweet bike!

Those are still awesome cranks. I'd have to agree though, maybe on a different build? In particular, they conflict with the rat-traps. They seem more suited to the sleek and fast racer build, the GJS has a rough and tumble 100% BMX feel to it.

Either way, I like it!....a lot!

That era Campys, Suginos, Superbes were all 144 BCD
Ted Carl
Hmmmm.

My digital caliper is at the new jobsite now. I 'd like to measure my 81 Campys now.

I guess I never measured them. Assumptions are always dangerous aren't they!?.

I thought that the power discs were 110 and 130 and would fit BMX, and campy chainrings?? I guess I have never even measured, or used, the larger hole pattern in the power discs either.

Up until I discovered how much I like the looks of the bigger chain rings on OS builds, everything I ever dealt with was 110.

I guess it is a good idea to measure all the old stuff before buying the "odd/road" sizes!

Was there a year for a 144 to 130 size changeover??

Good info, thank's Rick!
spike
Real men run steel cranks. I was always worried about spindles snapping and I hated the flex feel the 5 minutes I had a set, I think they were Dura-Aces.
stratbike
Brian Lewis, alloy cranks, and ski poles...cool thread.
LMFAO

TIM
yep, 144 size on the Suginos. i built this GJS after pulling all my parts out of storage and spreading them out on the dining room table (and floor.. and chairs) cause i needed to find a part i promised somebody.

it was kind of a buffet line. let's see.. i'd like a crank, and some pedals, and a stem, and oooh that seat looks good, and...

finished off the JU-6 the morning before from the same "buffet" table. it was fun!
TIM
i love the look of black rat traps on silver alloy cranks. Harry Leary ran that setup on his JMC and i keep going back to the same well.
