You know of course that these were bottom of the barrel Sears bikes.. That said I've never encountered one with an SR or MX1000's?? Mostly cheap pressed steel parts..most were rip-off designs also. Last summer I slammed on the brakes to be dissapointed by a red FreeSpirit that could have passed for a GT Performer frame from 30feet.

I had a 1976 freespirit, looked like a stingray but was decked out in red white and blue sparkle...everything was in 1976, lol.

My very first bike in 81 was a white with red accessories Free Spirit FS500 from the Sears catalog. I would give my left you know what to find one now to restore back to how I built mine up BITD.

Free Spirit had a bike in the Sears catalog that was a Murray X-20 C with different stickers. Nice bike, nice components, probably in the $300.00 range. If you have one, good find! It should look like this:

My second BMX bike my parents purchased for me was a yellow/blue 2 tone FS with yellow Troxel mags, snap pads. As crappy as that bike was, I'd love to see another one today.

You're missing a drawer front.

That's a nice find - despite the FS moniker. I'm sure the frame is full cro-mo since it was undoubtedly made by whomever was making Murray frame and forks back then (the full cro-mo ones anyway).

Nice find! Now, fix that drawer front.

I can tell by the welds on the Free Spirit that it probably isn't the higher end model they sold. It looks to be mild steel. The Cro-mo frames Murray made had top notch weld beads not bubble gum welds. I'll try to post some pics of my X-20 C soon.

lol....i just did that to see if you noticed mike.....ok, i will put it back.....
