Is the chrome no good on it? Looks pretty good from here. If the chrome is original, I'd leave it, as original chrome rocks!
Gold was never a color option for pre 84 GT's.

i'm guessing he means the parts...if so, a careful mix of blue and gold would be nice. i have a "retro" 1998 GT set up that way.

I mean accessories: neck, chainring, rims, etc. I would never paint the chrome.

Hehe...sorry, my bad
Yes, a mix of blue and gold would be nice.
Is that a 1983 Pro frame?

Well, the standard get up is blue or gold stuff.
However black looks great on those chrome GTs too and even red on occasions.
Mike - show the guy your chrome/black GT24".
Here's my chrome/blue GT 20" (1984)

Go with the classic GT look - blue and chrome with a little yellow and red splashed in like the pic above.

Base your decision on what color of real or repro GT padset you get--that will be one of your most expensive and hardest to find additions. My $.02. I have built 5 of these dogs.

I was always partial to Black and Chrome components. Don't be afraid to be different!

Anyone know of a way to bring the color back to a faded set of these pads?

Here's my chrome and black 82 GT24, and my chrome and blue 81 GT 26. Chrome and blue is classic GT, but I dig the look of chrome and black.
And I agree with santanamass.... The pads are tricky sometimes to locate

That 26 is off the hook!
Where did you finally score your blue padset?

Hehehe.... Thanks Andrew..
Well, first I prayed to the god of Santa Ana pads, and then I did a very rare old Ancient Incan PAd Dance, and then I begged, and grovelled, and pleaded, and then begged and grovelled....
And then a very well known builder of fine bikes relented and sold them to me... They really finish it off.

Nope... One sold down here recently remember...So make that two. Plus there is at least one in the Uk (photo of it on Vertego)
I really like the angles on the 84's

Yeah, '84 24's are sort of scarce. Got mine from Tom P when I couldn't talk him out of his '82.
This bike is pretty complete except I need an old school redline bb/spindle to replace the modern one that's in there to go with my old 401's.
