Full Version: Dolly's New Ride

Gooser
Following Phuture's lead--sort of--I built my daughter, Dolly Rose, a bike. The reason I say "sort of" is that it's a surprise for her b-day and not a father/daughter project.

I bought an old chromo Redline mini off of eBay for $90. (Sorry, no before pics as I didn't assemble it as such.) Had the chrome sandblasted and had it powdered a hot pink with a slight metallic shimmer. The story is this: whenever I take my daughter to an NBL state race, there's a crew of girl racers there with custom powdercoated pink bikes. Dolly totally digs them and likes to check out the girls "racer bikes." So I knew I'd have to build her one.

A lot of the parts were roached on the bike, so I replaced basically everything but the handlebars, stem, and wheelset. I put it together today...this thing is awesome. I know she's going to love it. Her b-day is tomorrow.

Now all she needs to do is learn how to ride without training wheels!

Fantastic! Wish her a happy birthday from all of us here. And post a picture of her on it, so she can see herself on the internet!

That is a cool bike. She's going to be a hit at the track!

sorry 2 dig up an old thread, but as i was going thru pics of my own daughters' bike (gotta cherish it while it lasts -- she's nearly outgrown it already) i got curious about Gooser's project.

Hey Gooser, nice job on the project! she must've been stoked to get her own pink bike, especially more so becuz dad hand-built it! What was her reaction? Is she off the training wheels now? And can u post pics of her riding it?

p.s. i think this is the kind of feel-good thread that people don't mind seeing re-runs of!
