How about a post of some crazy stories while traveling BITD.
My brother Gary has mentioned several he'd like to post as he finds time. Gary, maybe you can start chiming in here. Here's one he told me last week that I can tell to get this started.
Gary and Stu are both riding for Huffy and are at a national race back east. Gary gets sick and Stu gets injured so their both sitting in their hotel room. Stu gets bored and decides to practice his golf game....from their 6th floor hotel room. The target area, I hear, was an empty parking lot across the highway.
How's your golf game these days Stu?

When I was about 15 I started to ride along to races with this new BMX family, they were gung-ho from the get-go, we traveled everywhere, year-round. Anyway, their boys were about 9 & 13 when we hooked up, the very first time we traveled I found myself digging through the box of magazines they kept under the van seat. Saw a few BMXA's and then Playboy, Penthouse, etc. I was stunned. Wasn't the first time I'd seen this but we were in a van with parents....I questioned the older son.
"Is this yours?"
"No, my Dad gives them to us"
Wow. I was shocked.
I held many a lovely lady inside a BMXA traveling the countryside to BMX races...the good ole' days.

the bike shop team i rode for back around '82 went to a race in south florida. prior to going our manager knew someone in the area that would find us a motel to stay at... we got there to find it was a roach motel and no time to find another. everybody was really grossed out by how dirty it was...so, in the evening the parents went to the lounge and us kids noticed that their kidney shaped pool was EMPTY!!!! so, you can guess what happened next. in the morning i looked out the window to see the roach motel manager looking at all the black tire marks up around the coping and scratching his head in disbelief. memories

This is also in my Post Vintage Stories safe to tell
The Helmet Test. By Mr. Piant, Huffy Rider.
When the new Huffy team helmets failed to arrive for a race in Florida the Manufacturer purchased the cheapest helmets he could from the local motorcycle shop. After the race, with no need for the helmet, John decided to see how good the helmet was. He decided to test it by throughing the helmet out the 7th story window of the hotel room into the parking lot below. It turned out to be a pretty good helmet. After 5 throughs the helmet was scratched but not broken.

Breithaupt, 76, somewhere in the Midwest. We pull into a Howard Johnsons and Byron Friday and the gang jump out (me included) and take a quick "bath" in the pool. It is a distant memory, but I remember 15 people in one van and one car being a pretty smelly program. I bet they had to drain that pool after our 60 second "suds with your buds" bathing ritual. There is much more from that summer, but my psychologist has helped me block most of it out. Oh wait, one more just bubbled up:
PK reminded me of Dusty Trails in Ohio (same summer trip) where we stayed and this rather large man (our host) was running around in a gorilla mask. It was quite a site. This guys pic is in that group photo that OM put on the Joe Kid movie. That was indeed an interesting summer!
