Cinelli produced both a padded and unpadded version of the Unicanitor, as well as the plastic version with no covering at all. as far as i know, they first appeared in the early to mid 70's, then fell from favor as the "aero" trend developed. it is my opinion that the Unicanitor is one of the most tasteful, era correct saddles to use on an old school bike. and yes, they are ultra spendy like most anything tasteful, suede and Italian. i would further venture that the unpadded version has a slightly "racier" profile more suited to the stand-up antics of BMX racing.
when i was a kid, there was a guy who had a nickel plated Schwinn Paramount fitted with one of those saddles. as a 14 year old (already with racing habit, lol) working in the LBS, i recognized a cool bike when i saw one. when he picked it up, the dude always thanked me for making the Paramount look so sharp when he brought it in for a tune. he had no idea how many long "test rides" i took on that bike while it was at the shop. i have loved those saddles ever since.
usually i don't show any sneak photos of my current projects, but here is an NOS unpadded black suede Unicanitor (possibly on a pimpin' fresh early Proline).
