Schwinn dudes, Quick question:
Was there a Sting frame pad ever made? Or were there only handlebar pads? I've been looking for a little while, I found the bar pad but I've never come across a stem or frame pad that said "STING" on it. I've only found "TEAM SCHWINN" frame and stem pads.
thanks.

lol....
As far as I ever knew, "The Sting" bar pad was the only one ever made. The rest were Team Schwinn pads.
I am aware of Blue, Yellow, Red, and I believe Black. Yellow was a rare color to see on a bike, because virtually nobody wearing RW&B wanted anything to do with Yellow. I still don't.
I would like to find a Red and a Black, but I have not seen those 2 colors since I got into this VBMX deal! (PM me if anyone has one that they would give up, BTW)
The funny thing was that Schwinn was a couple of years behind the curve when those pads were marketed. IMO, California Lite pads were the thing to own. The snap pads were very heavy, and the snaps rusted shut, and the logo wore off. Schwinn's decision to persist in vinyl snap pads for an eternity was one that I never understood. It was part of that big company hysteresis thing.
Point being, we never liked them bitd. We used Cal Lites for light weight, and velcro, and washabilitiy, etc.
Now they are great to have as a collectors item. I have one installed on a Sting, but they make a better shelf item IMO.
I'd still like to have a Red and a Black one.

Hey I was a team Schwinn rider way back when and it is true. All of our padset stuff said team schwinn except the barpad. I will take a look in my old stuff when I can and get back to you on what I still have left. Jamson

Thanks guys! The knowledge of the members on this site still blows me away everytime I ask a question like this, even after 3 years of being here...

Here is a pic from an 82 catalog.
It really drives home my point above. In addition to being outdated vinyl snap pads, they were still marketing large stem pads for Mongoose gold stems/Cooks brothers double clamp type stems. Those stems were long extinct by 82, so who was looking for those pads at that point? Nobody, we all wanted Cal Lite sets.
The goggles were another item that was 7 years past at the time, if not 20...lol. Oakley was the item to own, and look what Schwinn was trying to sell. lol
