Most of us raced BITD, I thought it would be nice to share some neighborhood shots of the local posse. Here are some pictures my friend Nick Anderson shared with me that I thought I would post. Nick was one of my good buddies (and still is) that fueled my BMX addiction when I was young. These shots are from the late 70's in Plymouth, MN (Ferndale North hood)
Post em if ya got em...

Notice the Rampar bike with the Ashtbula forks, oh so sweet

Alright, here are some more that I received from Nick Anderson BMX Pioneer (1st Gen BMX Guy). I will try and get info about the specific's of the bikes and add more details later...
This is DJ Anderson (Nick's brother) from around the mid 70's in California at Saddleback Park
Nick & DJ both trophy in a race at Saddleback Park
On the gate, truly awesome BITD shot at Saddleback Park
More neighborhood shots from Plymouth, MN. I believe this is DJ on Nick's Torker (late 70's?) Little Bro Nate watching from his mini Rampar
Pretty stylin for the times, DJ crossed up.
For all you MN boys, this is Nick blowing out the competition in a wheely contest at Spirit Mountain on bike that he bought at Sheely's Wheel's...
Stylin one hander, this kids a pro!
I will be posting even more when my pics get here tomorrow, anyone got anything cool to share?

Nice Pics, and good to see Nick here...
The pic I posted is the Bakery Hill - you can't tell from this pic, but the runway is a parking lot and the ramp is a spine-type jump dug into the side of a little cliff (6 feet high?).
I'll post more soon, work is busy lately.

I will post pics soon PaulyMN. I got a bunch from San Diego which is where I grew up and raced bmx. Never made it up to MN unfortunately. The only place I raced outside of CA was Arizona and, I think, Nevada(not sure about NV). Anyway, those are some really cool pictures you got! Love oldschool pics!

Hey guys,
The pics that show the yamaha bikes are at saddleback park CA. feb 1975. My brother and I used to ride and race motocross there almost every weekend. And when they finally built the BMX track it was double pleasure!!
Shawn, I remember that jump like it was yesterday. We spent A LOT of time there and broke a lot of parts too! I would have said it was 10 ft. but when your a kid everything seems bigger than it was.

Okay, this is all I could dig up for now...
This is my Buff Special PK Ripper w/ Red Line Flite 400's (no pinch) cranks. Man I was a bean pole BITD, when perms were cool or at least I thought they were that weekend... Notice the OS Haro gloves too, that makes up for the bad perm.
This is me on my white Red Line Pro Line and Barry on his Robinson.
Me and my sister, with my Schwinn Scrambler. Check out the yellow BMXA pads.
My first REAL bike, a schwinn sting ray junior circa 1970-1971...

I was going to say 10' too - but I didn't want to exaggerate! I still have that frame sitting in the other room, waiting for some welding and a repaint - I have the rest of the parts too, just need to put it all together and the Vista will live again.
I must have returned a dozen Winn double-clamp stems for warranty at the old Pedaler's Paradise.
That shop was the best sponsor I ever had! Herman Lau? He used to drive me to races and paid for all my entry fees, great guy - but he had to have came out on the losing end of that deal.

The pic on the first page is Nick's brother Dave jumping Nicks Torker - man we drooled over that thing for a long time before anyone got anything even close to it.
That was a sweet bike, had to be one of the first... even had a Torker stem if I remember right.

Here are a couple:

A couple of the Sheely's Wheels guys at a show in '85. I think that's Marty Schlesinger standing on the ramp, don't remember the rider's name.

The true "Spicolli"...
Erik Levander and I out in front of his mom's townhouse in '82 after a FS session, we stored the ramps in the garage.

Yup, I remember those ramps, that brings back some serious memories! Once I saw that pic I knew exactly where it was... Looks like you got some pipes there Sheely?
Shawn Sheely MN-1
Feb 13 2006, 01:13 AM
Oh, I wouldn't call'm pipes - I was always on the skinny side.
But I spent 3 years solid in the weight room (and was always the smallest regular of the bunch). I always concentrated on high reps and building up strength over time without loosing flexibility or getting bulky.
By the time I quit racing I was at 175 lbs., 20 more than I weigh now! Oh, to have it back...

According to my math, that puts Shawn at 155 now.......I got down to 180 about a year ago, and everybody thought I must be sick and dying....lol. If you want it back Shawn, you can have some of mine!
Which old neighborhood did you want pix from anyway? There were a few "Old Neighborhoods", I was infamous in all of them....
In one old neighborhood, after I had "lost" my Sting, I would actually have to beat up little girls, and steal their Schwinn Pixies just to have something to ride wheelies on. Caught on camera in Daytona. Rough neighborhood...(Those girls were tough!)

Nice pic Ted My niece wants her bike back.
I always had a hard time keeping weight on, high metabolism I guess... I was back up to 170 a few years ago when I was serious about DH and hitting the weights again. But I have to eat like a horse to keep the muscle on - at least 1500 calories a day, if not more.
Then I started riding the road bike and racing XC - I was under 150 for awhile - and actually had my best results. But I was so light I was feeling like I could catch a cold in a cool breeze.
Any pics will do, keep posting them.

Hey I'll tell you something funny I just remembered about that yellow bike of mine up there in that pic(a few posts up). The back rim on that bike was from my Schwinn Pea Picker(is that what those are called?) and I had no brakes on that yellow bike. I used to jam my right foot between the back tire and the frame to stop. I got so good at this braking method of mine that it became second-nature.
Anyway, here's a pic of me off the very same jump as in the yellow Schwinn pic(a few posts up) although it's about a year later and I think it's my second bmx bike I built. I think I was about 13 so it's probalby around 1974......we used to call this "The Tree Jump" and it was in Mira Mesa/San Diego.........

Here's my brother, Tom, on that same second bike of mine when he was 12(1974). That's a wooden jump we built from some wood we "found" at a local construction site.......again in Mira Mesa/San Diego

I later tricked out that same Schwinn and had my friends dad weld a cross-bar on those cool Schwinn handlebars in the pic's (below). Those rims were mega-heavy-duty-rims(lmao) and were soooooooo heavy but they were the latest and the greatest at the time. They had 120 gage spokes and were almost as wide as motorcycle rims! That Schwinn had a Goodyear Eagle on the front and a Carlisle on the back. I was 13 and so it was 1974........

Sweet... Man, I love these '70's non-racing pics better than anything else!
Ted, seeing you on that pink pixie (man were you ever ripped!) reminds me of when I was 6 or 7, and the bike I used to steal from my neighbor in New Hope. My Schwinn Bantam had been stolen, so I would sneak into her garage and take her pink Schwinn so we could go jumping on the hill.

Dean Cebula and Jim Gosewich at "the lot" in Maple Plain.

Me, jumping at the "the lot" on a way too small for me EK Torker, dig the brown corduroy!

November '69, my first bike - a Schwinn Bantam.

The Pedaler's Paradise Team in 1980 or 81, not sure if the is BP or Shorewood.
Dave Welch, Lane Moore, Curt Hanson, Larry Shaw (hiding behind that big trophy), myself (shirtless skinny dude on the trailer), Matt Lau, and Shane Ruud. Check the Schwinn Cruiser on the trailer.

Hey bmxbully, what sup.....I live at Parkway Commons apartments on Clinton Pkwy and Kasold. Ya man we need to go riding sometime for sure. Thanks for the compliment on that old Schwinn, unfortunately I don't have that Schwinn anymore. That's just an old school pic from the 70's. At the moment all I have is a Cannondale Lefty but I do some serious riding on it. I'm surprised I havn't broken the frame yet. Uh, anyway, I do plan on getting another bmx bike soon. My brother, Tom, still has his Pedal Power from the late 70's. We definitely need to hang sometime dude. You still got a bmx bike? Stay in touch! I'm out!
