Nice GJS. My buddy Sean raced one of those.

Hey, last night at Lino Lakes was a blast!!! Pauly rode together and met up with two of his buddies. John Sanberg and son were there and John's friend Ken? ( I think it was Ken) anyway, it was a blast!

sorry bout the double post. My daughters lap top sometimes isn't user friendly and sends things when it wants too LOL!

Awesome time, fun was definetly had by all! It was great getting together and actually seeing how rusty we really were. I was thoroughly impressed with how everyone did, it was a good confidence booster (don't worry). Andrew (Biz) & Mike were charging pretty well to being that they are young bucks! Pretty cool seeing John Sandberg, last time I saw him was the Rondo Classic at the St. Paul Civic Center in 1981. I look forward to many more practice session's and BS gatherings.

Thanks for bringing us all together VBMX!

Yes it was really great to see John. I hope Shawn, Ted, etc. should by all means join us. I had the most fun watching John follow his son around the track. I can't wait until my son's ready to hit the track ( if he wants to ) LOL!!!

have a great day guys... c-ya

Wow! This thread is bringing back some memories. Don't have much time right now, but I thought I would throw out a little histroy, names I recall from BITD, and recent sightings.

I raced up until '83 in the 17X class. Was sponsored by BJ's and team captain at the time I "retired" before my senior year of HS. My crew from the Crystal/New Hope area was my brother Joel, Allen Smith, Chris Thimmesh (deceased), Dave Thimmesh and Bob Diedrich. We raced all of the local Twin City tracks and Rochester, Cannon Falls, Brainerd, once in Thunder Bay Canada (got thrashed by those Cannucks!), Waterloo, Mankato (anyone recall the night a bunch of rednecks ran down one of the dads in their 4x4's? I had to give a deposition!).

Other names I recall are Shawn Sheely (I saw at a MOCA meeting a few weeks back), John Sandberg (I saw on the course at the Cheq Fat 40 twice in the past few years), John Long, John Danner, Ben and Ted Richards, Nick Kragness, Jeff Manning, Troy Lemke, Steve Redelsperger (saw him in the Cancun airport a few years ago), Jeff Ayers, Scott Ruud, Rob Butterfield, Nathan Benjamin, a really big dude from Brainerd, a kid whose dad drove an Indy Pace Car Ford Mustang, Theo, a chick named Robin and that is all I can come up with right now!

No pics handy, but maybe I will dig them up some time.

Keep it coming!

This is a great thread! Although I never raced, I would go to the North Track in Rochester, MN and watch. Remember the smell? It was right next to the Rochester waste treatment facility...ugh. I was all set to start racing but went the freestyle direction and the rest of that is history.

Marc Fritzmeier, it was basically you that set me in the freestyle direction. I saw you on your Torker and another guy (riding a Supergoose?) doing 180's in a ditch across broadway from Recreation Lanes. Remember the old lady that would yell at you for kicking up dust outside her 2nd floor apartment window?

Anyway, for years I've been wanting to thank you for planting the freestyle seed in my mind. So...thanks!

Here's a couple of my friend Phil from York, PA. These are from his birthday in 1980. He just dug these up on his last trip home, they seem to fit pretty good with this thread.

John Sandberg
Eric Flom: I met your brother Joel at a local MTB race last summer. He said either you or he had still a couple bikes hanging in your parents' garage, including a built Cooks Bros. Sweet.

Since you mentioned Robin and Steve Redelsperger, how about we share some Robin/Steve love stories? LOL.

Not a love story, but one year at the ABA Grands, Tim Krone and I "borrowed" a Bones Brigade (skate board) T-shirt from Robin. We used to call Krone "Bone" and the T-shirt seemed better suited to him.

Rightfully so, Robin got MAD and demanded we return her shirt. We responded by hanging it in the window of our hotel room, where she could see it but (we thought) never retrieve.

In a fit of rage, Robin hurls a brick through the window and grabs her T-shirt. Uh, wow!

I don't remember who paid for the window.

Hey Sandberg! My bro mentioned seeing you. And yes, my Hutch Pro Long is hanging in my garage. I gotta get that thing out someday. The Cook Bros. is at our dad's house and missing a few parts if I recall. There is a Redline Microline there too. Ha, I think there is even a Schwinn Mag Scrambler frame lurking about.

Tim Krone? I am trying to put his name to his face.

Funny about Robin and Redelsperger! They were pretty tight weren't they.

Motel stories. Des Moines ABA nats, stuff being dropped from the 10th floor, Vangen, Lembke... trouble. I think they emptied the room onto the sidewalk, but I don't think it was their room.

Also, Pete L. and Eddie King sitting next to my parents and I at the hotel restaurant, flipping butter tabs to the ceiling with their napkins - I don't know who was laughing harder, my mom or Harry Leary.

Milwaukee, Robin and I shared a room - she goes out partying all night and comes back late and changes the wakeup call because she didn't want to get up that early - I miss practice and barely make my first moto, and have a terrible race - no big deal, except Tracker is looking at me for a full ride that weekend. I didn't get the ride... it was a pretty quiet ride back to Minni after that.

She's still 'round town, I think someone ran into her at First Ave. last year.

Here's my grandfather sitting on my '83 Diamond Back Silver Streak. That's me in the blue shirt and my cousin on the right...

I bet you thought your Grandpa was old back then. What I trip on is how I thought people were old. Hell when I was 16X I looked at Pros as being OLD. Now Im old enough to be a grandpa myself WTF! Anyone over like 35 is LOL.

Cool you still have the picture. Do you still have the bike?
