Cool score,
No, I had an EK - my first cro-mo bike - but I grew 4" over the winter and it was too small in the spring (it was a bit small anyway) so I got the XL.
Damn Bullseye BB creaked all the time on the EK, I hated riding that bike - but it was a sweet frame.
I got the XL when they co-sponsored me, I also picked up one of those candy coated nickel plated frames, threw some Tuffs on it and used if for jumping.
Here's a really bad pic with both of those bikes:

Awesome picture Sheely, BITD I don't think we knew how cool we really were...
Regarding getting together, I have some connections at Pro-Kart Indoor Go Kart track up here in Dayton/Maple Grove border on HWY 81. I am tight with the owners and we could get some kind of a break on pricing. They also have a meeting/party room. I sprung a surprise party for wifes 30th there a few years ago. Keep it mind guys... As well we could do a movie gig some night or weekend (Jox Jag, Joe Kid etc...) I have an LCD projector and laptop with DVD, just grab some decent desktop speakers and we have a homemade drive in theater. Any other idea's for a Spring time MN VBMX gathering?

Just did a quick scan of some more pics, like I said - I don't have many photos without me in them....
This is Brooklyn Park in 1979, left to right - Scott McKown, Brad McKown, and myself.

Same year, Big Willow. That's dad's snowmobile helmet.

This was taken at Bakery Hill in Maple Plain, 1977 or 1978.

And one of my favorite jumping photos, the starting hill at the Owatonna track after a race - 1980 or 81.

BJ's Bike & Ski was the source for me...
Bill & Jean Cecil were the best, I lived close by them and they would bring home stuff for me from their shop. Pretty great because I couldn't drive to BP to get more stuff so they were nice enough to bring it home and I would ride over and pick it up. I think I remember there son building a mini BMX track in the backyard (?) Keep em comin Sheely!

I'm on a roll.
A couple from Maple Plain, 1984. The orange bike is the American prototype.

Amory Racing, 1984 - Nathan Benjamin, Paul Kator.

Pete Westlund at Eden Prarie in 84 or 85.

yeah, I have been spending the last day reading all the old posts here...just happen to find it when I was searching for Tahoe info...such a cool site. Your pics are great time capsules for us all. I just want to add something to the discussion of "learning life lessons" form bmx. I had a great time yes-I made friends and it kept me out of trouble(for a while)-it also taught me about pressure and stress management. I decompressed for many years...ha

Stuff me huh? right! and how do you plan to stuff me ? and leave Polly and the GTO out of this. LOL!!!!! I'll come over and we'll go riding

Schweet, the track in St. Michael is pretty cherry too. Seriously let us know when you heading this way!

Heck ya, KART Track is open to everyone! They go aproximately 40mph but it feels like 100mph at the low level, it rocks...

I got to ride that track in St. Michael about two years ago when I talked my sister-in-law into taking my nephews and me to see it. A kid there let me borrow his bike and I did a few laps and some jumps. It's a LOOOOOOONG track!
My nephews have been racing ever since. I bought them a couple of redline minis to throw down on.
I am REALLY serious about bringing my bike next time we visit my sister-in-law. Or maybe buying one while I'm there (heh, heh). I was there in November, but it was too damn cold to do any riding.
Must go in Summer!!

We gotta get Howie Manning to cough up the motherload.
As fate would have it, my son and I will be at Rehbien's this Friday. It will be his third time ripping up the track. I'm bringing the 24", so there's a pretty good chance you guys will witness a collarbone breaking.
Sean Miland... welcome aboard friend. Tahoe, huh? I've heard of it.

in keeping with the surf punks theme.
the oceans nothing but a fish toilet.
this thread is so awesome. on page 8 of one of shawn's pics is the 1984 eden prairie on a robinson cruiser. the guy next to him, no. 68 is marc fritzmeier. a good friend from my racing days. i haven't talked to marc in 20 years, i saw that pic and hit whitepages.com- he is still in rochester. dialed the number, got a machine, left a number, minute later the phone rings, it's him.
i say there is a pic of you on the internet at vbmx, so i walk him through it how to see it. he had to get to work, so i left him my number and he's calling later. i'm sure he was stoked to see it and probably is now thinkiing of stuff he hasn't thought about in a long time. hopefully he will sign up and post here.
now marc was always a torker guy as you can see by the gear, so i asked him what are you riding cuz that isn't a torker. said it was a tracker he bought from bill ford. now there is a holy grail. i've never seen one since i got on here in 01.
anyhow c-ya

Very cool story Rick Kast, I just recieved an PM from RL with a very similar type story...
RL sent me a message that he was browsing this post and came accross a picture that I had posted of racing in Brooklyn Park. He saw himself in second place (#43). I replied that I sure that the results would be different today because I am older, fatter & slower. Pretty friggin cool though huh?
B. Apold
Feb 23 2006, 09:03 PM
I raced Gamehaven alot (dust bowl). I never cared for the track, but it as fun.
that north track wasn't around very long. Wasn't that off 36th st exit down from IBM, now a carwash or something... Haven't been to Roch in a decade! anyway, that north track was basically a field back then.
Bill " billfold" Ford, Jeff Ringenburg, Rex Welch all Roch guys... Nice guys too. I still don't understand how Bill rode a 20". He had to by 6' 6" or close to it...
Lino Lakes? can't wait...

Okay guys. I have been looking ofr my pictures for over two years. It seems they were destroyed by water at my parents. This time I went back, I dug through a few negatives and found seven pictures! I just got them developed. Lets start with a modern day neighborhood picture. The Webco is not the same one you will see later, but I do still have its motomags. The GJS in this picture will be seen THE DAY I built it up! Lets get going!
