Saturday night we received a phone call from my Mother in-law. She was so upset she could hardly talk. She told us that my brother in-law Rob Nichols house had just burnt to the ground, thank God no one was home!!!

Guys they had no insurance none. The house was built in the 1887 it was passed down to Rob and has been in their family for nearly 100 years. Rob was slowly restoring the house as he and his family lived in it. He and his wife and three children have lost everything and I mean EVERYTHING!!!!!

Rob rode for his father’s shop for many years, Nicks BMX of Indy and then factory Thruster from 80' to around 83' when he quit racing to go flat track racing. Rob had all personal old BMX stuff in the house. His jerseys, pants and helmets. Even his 7' tall Jag world championship trophy.........

Rob is a great guy and an outstanding father. I am asking you guys if you could send donations. I am set up with paypal or you can mail them to me. Either way please include a note I can pass along to Rob and his family.........

Guys I really don't know where I would be today if it wasn't for Rob and his family and that's a straight fact......

OS Jbay
Sorry to hear about that Rod, I'll send what I can through snail mail. How old are the kids, I have 2 myself and was wondering what size Rob's kids are as I have some clothes that might be able to fit them. My daughter is now almost 8 yrs old and my son is almost 3 yrs old so I have old clothes some stuff didn't even get worn or very little. I also have Toys that I could send to the kids if they aren't already to old for them. So if you could tell me the ages and what size clothes they are maybe I can help out that way too. Please let me know and I won't be sending junk if you know what I mean.

Very, very sad news.

Ages of the kids would help us all. My soon to be 10 year old, certainly has some things he could give up.
Todzilla
Very sorry Rod.

How old are the children? Mine are way to spoiled....they would be more than happy to help.

Hal,
I listed my address, I WILL pass along every cent of cash of any other donations passed to me. Right now they have no address to send anything to so thats why I ask you guys send it here.

They live in Culberson,NC. thats a tiny town right next to Murphy NC. I will be driving back up there this weekend.

I dont know the kids sizes as of yet but I will find that out tonight. I know Trisha is 16, And his sons Andrew 14 and Jake is right around 7 years old.

Hey Rod, I remember the Nichols clan from the really good old days of BMX and also Nicks BMX shop and team. In those days I was announcing NBL races at Wakarusa, IN among other places. I am retired now, can't send alot, but will get a twenty headed that way. John(Wildman)Kiernan

Hey Guys,
An update, the local church and the school has rounded up a good bit of clothing as well as My wife and I so they should be ok there for now.

As far as donations so far 3 members have been so kind to pitch in. On another note Tom NFR5111 and I are going to do a fund raiser auction on a race inc cruiser frame and fork.

I think we need some help here.

I am still job interviewing myself. But I know I may have things that could help, but a better picture of what the current situation is, would help a lot.

OK so some of the immediate needs are met, such as clothing. I may have some more for the 6 year old.

Where are they staying, at a friends, a hotel, an apartment? Do they have anyplace to put tangible items like Bicycles, Stereos, Toys???

Are they rebuilding on the same property? Is he a builder? Would hammers, or nails, or tools help? Or are they resigned to the fact that they will be in an apartment for long term now? Are they getting a loan to rebuild, or is that a long way off, and more immediate needs must be met?

Where they are at, what do they really need first (after clothing), what is of no use to them at this point, and what they are planning in the near future would help us scour for items. What they like to do might help too. Do they play guitar? Roller blade? (I shouldn't speak for everyone, but it would help me to see what I can do)

First off, thank you for those who have given so far. Also those that have posted the kind words....

Ted,
At this time Rob and his wife Donell are staying at Rob's Mother and Father's house. The kids are staying with some of their friends from school.

From talking to Rob, yes he plans to build on the same land. Rob is not a builder, but will assist in the build when the time comes. Does he need nails or tools to build, no? One of Rob's neighbors has tools and equipment to help him build everything when he has the funds to do so.

The items like stereos, playstations, x-box w/games and toys for a 7/8 boy sure, they would be perfect and could use them. Roller blades, no. This is the country side, nothing but farms, fields and dirt roads in this area.

I will try to get more details as they come.

Rod,
I sent what I could for now.
Keep us posted on their progress/needs.

Hey Guys,
So far were at $380.00 and some change. It would be great to break the $500.00 dollar mark......

I will be cutting off the donations by Saturday night. On Sunday 2/12/06 I will be passing everything on to Rob and his family along with all your kind words and thoughts.

Also to all those who have donated I will send a broken down list of who has donated and how much every one has given.

Thank you again for all you guys do!
