No UG boots is what we call them, made from sheeps skin.
Thumperpilot
I'm not touching that one.
COASTY
Note mum checkin over the fence. I knew you could do it! It would have been funny if you didn't, but luckily you did.
Ted Carl
UG boots?....Do they come in checkers?
VENOMSZ
lol
MNW
There's me (#1000) riding yellow tuffs w/coaster brake right as the gate dropped. Dig the checkered Zap Pads.

Shawn Sheely MN-1
Uggs were a popular (fashionable) boot here in the midwest the last couple of years - or so my GF tells me. Any time she says anything about bikes I just point at the closet.

Anyway, sweet pic - the framestander. I love those kinds of pics.

BTW - just scored a '85 Mongoose MTB at the shop down the street. Made my day.
STRIKE
I never even saw this thread until now...Tuff Wheels were awesome.

Edit to add a couple of more recent shots:

Finally got around to transferring the photo circa 1980 at our local bush hangout in Launceston, Tasmania.

Jim Stinson
Here's me circa 1981 at the famed Pontiac Silverdome race on my tuffs (I finished 2nd in the 12x class). Boy - I'd love to get another pair for my come back this year (I'm going to race again after 20+ years, please wish me luck!)

BartWatchitDude
Strike: Cool pics!

Jim: Good luck in the new season!

This is the first I have seen this thread. I will have to check out all the cool photos of Tuffs.

Nice pics guys! Matt Black, since your bro's name is Gloss Black do you have a bro or sista who's name is Suede Black or Satin Black? he he. How you doin' MB? Great pics mate.

Here's a pic of me at 13 yrs old in the jump comp at Windsor in late '80 (pic from Feb '81 BMXA) when the pro's were out here in Oz. Check out Stompin' Stu, the OM and Bobby Encina in the background! Danny Davidow won the comp with a 25ft jump! Stu coulda won, but blew out a rear wheel. He shoulda been ridin' da tuff wheels!!!

Ok, let's try that again!

gazallac1
And here's a pic of my bro - Just picked up a ride with Skyway after meeting Chuck Raudman and Linn Kastan. Jumpin' his mircroline with his first set of campy graphites to victory in the junior jump comp again at 10 years of age! (pic from Feb '81 BMXA) Awesome jumper.....

Tuff wheels ruled BITD. And still now. I can't wait to get a new set of graphites. Ed Can I get an ex Factory Rider deal??? hehe. If you ever broke a tuff wheel, you didn't know how to land correctly!

Popeye
Hey Ed, You told me to post some pics once I got my new Graphites. Couldn't find the time to swap them so I raced with the old graphite mags at the nbl regional April 1st.

Also had tuffs on my pit bike for the pit bike race.
Jet Black
Photobucket is jammed up atm so the new old pick I found of me & my Blue Tuff II's (steel) will have to wait till later.
Ed if you plan on using any of these pix on your (commercial) website can you give the ppl who contributed them credit , Matt & I have discussed "tagging" our pix but decided against it , as copyright dosen't technically work on the internet & tagging them with notices tends to detract from their asthetic appeal...

Hey Johhny , I'll see how many shades of Black I can round up , grab Don Quixote & set him loose on your Winmill's There seems to be a Winmill of some sort in most every edition of Tuff Moves (QLD races) I got laying around here , you guys got lots of press bitd

As for breaking Tuff's & landing correctly , I'd tend to agree that be true in 80% of the time , there were a few exceptions to the rule , the only Tuff I sheared a spoke on was from a clean landing in very loose powdery dirt , big air Table Top clean landing but because the rear wheel dug into the dirt rather than rolling away snap (other variable may have been involved as well) Ted Carl has a different story behind the failure of his Graphite Tuff on indoor cement over a wooden indoor race ramp many years ago too....Pix will be posted when photobucket is workin again...

JB
Jet Black
Ahh photbucket has let me in.

Another pic of Matt getting a bit more air than he expected on our big air jump , thats me to the left & coastVL partly obscured down at road level , we had convinced him to hit the jump a lot faster on this run

One of the very few pictures (& attemps) to go the wrong way down the big air jump...btw I still got that GT crossbar pad , it seems to have faded a bit over the years tho , still they were a cool looking padset at the time , vinyl & with velcro on them all

How about a picture of me riding on my THUG mag wheels ? The amount of pix of ppl riding on THUG's wouldn't warrant it's own thread , nice smooth mags , no air drag on these mags , pity they never fitted sealed bearings to them & arrived on the market 15 years too late....

JB
Ted Carl
Yesterday was the first I saw this one of me, so I borrowed it for this thread! lol, I thought of this thread, I thought it was a cool shot, cuz the crisp shadow is what shows that I even had them on there!

sanjosebmx
This thread inspired me to build up my old BADD Cruiser- I had all the parts it was just a matter of putting it all together..

And getting out and RIDING IT!!

Props to the Wife for putting up with my silliyness today, and taking the picture
DarrenOz
laying down some neighborhood style.....

Deans 35th
Sanjose, that bike looks great. Later this year there will be blue and red 24" tuffs available. I'll be jumping on the blue for sure.

Hey Jet, I know mate, I was only having a dig about the "landing correctly" thing. I've seen people break every kind of wheel, and when you see it happen you think - "man, he landed ok". Lot's 'o' variables for sure, as you mentioned. Ok, here's some more poser pics.

Aright, here are a few more shots to keep this thread alive.

gazallac1
Great pics guys!

Jet Black - Rad jump! How old were you then on the DB, 9 or 10?

Darren Oz - Keep the style alive! Cool pic, the early dayz rule.

Strike - Cool pics! Nothing like jumpin' a car.

Keep the thread alive.

My very first race ever, 1980, nickel plated Goose with Yellow Tuff 1's, if i can find the shot I will post.
Mattblack
Hey Jonny, It's me on the DB, I would say I was 10-11 in that pic my brother posted I was small for my age.
Here's one from the weekend. 35 and still trying to go big.
PK Ripper
About five years ago on my PK at the local ramps...

I've always loved this shot!
msalyers
from my other thread...thought it would fit in nice.
Mike Corvin
What a cool thread - so many great pics from BITD.
I only had one set of Tuff's and not for long, so I have no pics, unfortunately. I used them to train on since they weighed in a little more than my "race" wheels. The flex is evident in some of Strike's pics, especially him and his bro against the wall.
Ben Barron - are you familiar w/ Old Chico Beer? One of my favorites that I have'nt seen in years.
Kip - that golf course air is sweet! going huge BITD!
Jim Darling
Here is a pretty goog one of my brother (MaGoo) jumping. JIM
Mattblack
Keeping it alive. And tuffs on a TA too.
