I love the R&R hack, but I wonder how long it lasted since those frames were fragile.
And yes, those helmet are definitely cool!!!

Funny how pics can bring back memories. The hack on the left, my hack, the hack piloted by Chris Foster (AKA The Hulk--Green Uniform and all that) and another hack were involved in what i remember to be an epic hack battle at Rancho in 78-79.
The race was brutal, with all 4 hacks going down in the first moto, 2 in the second moto, and three in the last moto (Which resulted in us breaking the ankle of the monkey of the hack team above--not on purpose.) After the last moto, we tied on points with us getting the win based on the higher placing in the last moto. It was just a local race, but i remember it vividly cause people were just waiting for the carnage at the berms and they even clapped and yelled after the last moto...
Sigh..I miss Rancho

My 14 yr.old son Kyle, played an All Star soccer tournament two weeks ago on or near where Rancho once was....I kept being asked "what are you staring at over there?"

Classic Mike, classic.
I said before, but sometimes when I'm stressed out over work or something, I close my eyes, think of the old days and I can almost feel the wind, the rush and the sheer terror of zooming into Rancho's first corner desperately trying to keep the hack upright.
Geez, getting OLD!!. if we are this bad now, I don't even want to imagine what we will be like in 25-30 years (if we make it that far)

EVERYONE WAS HITTING ON THE WAITTRESS (for laughs)
I never made a move.
I just had a job that could benefit her.
She actually called me last week.
She asked me who to contact at my Long Beach gig for a bartending job.
I gave her the names.
She never returned my calls after that.
LOL! Typical 22 year old college chicky.

Who were the pilot/ monkey for hacks
MM1?
MM2?
Mike Welsh
Feb 1 2006, 01:03 AM
Johnny,
MM1 in the pic at top the pilot is Dave Sieber and the monkey is his brother Bob. Later, after we built MM2, I took over piloting MM1 and kept Bob as a monkey. Dave Sieber piloted MM2 and I believe Wayne Murray was the monkey. Mario Jeter even piloted one, or both, of those a few times.

Yep. MM1 in this pic was me and my bro Dave and the original is hanging on my living room wall. It was taken by the guy that took and sold pictures at the San Diego events. Hence the black and white.
That "truck" in the background is my grandparent's hippy van we cruised to the races in, and it's not as close as it looks. These guys were heading for the far side in tragic fashion and did not some close to it.
It seems the pilot always got the glory, but mind you this. I was never the pilot, yet I won with my bro Dave, Mike Welsh and Mario Jeter at the controls of MY HACK.
So, in general, I frrrt in the general direction of the guys with the moosy horsepower. Bah! I say, Bah!
And on behalf of all great monkeys. Bah again.

We, Mira Mesa Schwinn, MM1 & MM2, raced in the oldest class(whatever that was). We raced hacks in the late 70's bro. Oh ya, you asked how old we are....I'm 21...
I know you were probably asking reilly1/Rick that question but I answered it anyway....so there you go.
