MM1 in the house!
About a year ago, I asked if anyone knew who MM1 or MM2 was.

There's a pic of the MM1 hack in the background of a pic of Eddy King in a 77' or 78' issue of BMX Action.

Welcome to Vintage Mike.

Hey Mike!! The Mira Mesa Schwinn team was Tom & Mike Welsh, Bob & Mike Sieber and Mario Jeter right? Please correct us old guys going off 26 yr. old memory!
I have been trying to find all of our San Diego BMXA riders from the 70's for a reunion and Mario is the only one I have spoken to, so its great that you have checked in.
Rick and Johnny, should I post the list or PM it to Mike?

Mike M, I think you should repost the list here again. Maybe some of the newer members that haven't seen it can contact people.

Mike Mendenhall!,
What's up bro? It's really exciting to be getting in touch with all you guys! I owe it all to my brother, Tom, who discovered this site and checks it religiously every day. I guess he hasn't had to time to sign up yet but I'm getting on him about that.

Mira Mesa Schwinn Team: Dave Sieber, Bob Sieber, Mike Moreau, Mario Jeter, Tom Welsh, Mike Welsh, Ron Rieves, Bobby Niethold, Cathy Bozo, Robert Bozo(I'm not 100% sure)....I'll have to ask my brother since his memory is way better than mine for obvious reasons that I won't go into at this time. If anyone wants to call me feel free 785-766-4228

Hey Mike Mendenhall, have you ever heard anything from Wayde Newton? My memory sucks real bad these days. Craig Small, Boo Boo Marino?, Glen Mosimoto, and many more.....talk to you soon!

So sorry to hear that news. I know that our old sponsor, Randy Williams; owner of Mira Mesa Schwinn has also passed although i don't know the details. I'm hoping Mario can fill me in. My brother, of course, has shown me Marios site. I'll tell you later how I ended up in Kansas since it's kind of a long story. My brother Tom is here as well and only lives about 30 miles from me. We'll talk soon bro.
RICK YOU'RE AN AWESOME DUDE MAN! YOU'VE ALREADY DONE SO MUCH FOR ME. I CAN'T THANK YOU ENOUGH. THE CHECK FOR THE DVD IS IN THE MAIL NOW. LATER, ~MIKE~

Mendenhall!!!!!

Fudge was racing at Kearny a couple years ago. Ask Vince McCurdy.

Tom Marsh was awesome. He ran Rascal bars in 1980.
Way after no one ran em anymore. Nice guy.
Beat my homie Eddy King around the same time locally.

Bo Stevens was living in Alaska from What Doug Davis told me.

Saw Bill Knudsen (spelled with a D not a T. Misspelled in BMX Action )sometime around 2000 or 2001 working at an auto repair shop in downtown Ramona. I may have a number still. I'll look.

Taylor Troney has Brent Hayward's number.

Duane Williams rode for Contreras Bros. Construction as did Bob Haro's cousins Peter and Paul Haro. Maybe Ron Haro (Bob's bro) too.
Bob remmbered the Contreras Bos. team by name. Maybe Ron could help you.

Look up Ronnie Lardizabal and his older brother Greg.
Ronnie is in charge of PE at Hoover High.

Cool you found Jack Roland! How old is he now?
Any connection to Aunt Emma's restaurant?

What about Brian Evan sister Julie? She was an excellent racer too.

Seeing Harry Mutch and Rick Chastain would be AWESOME!
Those guys were SOOOOOOOO RAD!

Ricardo Pedroza said Harry Mutch lives in Oregon and he has his number.
Julie Evans is a High School principal in North County.
Get a number from Fudge if you see him at Kearny again.
Insane Dwayne Williams e-mailed me and I sent him the list.
Can you get Brent's number from Taylor?
I e-mailed Doug Davis and he responded back about making this reunion in memory of Sandy and I think should be for Bobby and Al Nybo, Alan Brickey and Kris Parenteau as well.

Hey Mike Welsh....would you, Tom, Dave and Bob Sieber be able to come to this??
My goal is to have 100 riders attending with Wives, Girlfriends and kids, I'm guessing 350-400 people would be there!!!
Mike Welsh
Mike Mendenhall,
I'm sure we would all give a 110% effort to try and make it there Mike. It just all would depend on when it will be. Do you have a date yet? I wouldn't want to miss that for anything. I know my brother and the Siebers wouldn't want to miss it either.

TemeculaOlSkool
wow MM Schwinn team!

I was an honoray member- Randy who owned MM Schwinn, was a friend of my dads.

I didnt know he passed - he used to be related to the folks that ran RB Schwinn and the Schwinn on El Cajon Blvd I think(near the old Tower records)

Bought my 36/36 and Team Schwinn & the Sting frames there.

That was the only shop for BMX stuff around the area until Trish and Tony started carry things at Bicycles Unlimted(now Black Mtn. Bicycles)

it was a sad day when the Schwinn store closed in 1982 (Radioshck wanted the space and was willing to pay more rent

SDOlSkool,
omg, Trish and Tony. Bicycles Unlimited was actually there before Mira Mesa Schinn. Bicycles Unlimited had a short lived bmx team that I was on. I used to build rims for Tony way back then. I was 13 and he found out that I knew how to build rims because I needed him to finish trueing mine that I had just built. He would send me home with a bunch of rims, spokes, and hubs and pay me something like $2.00 per rim and he would finish trueing them. I used to hang out at Bicycles Unlimited all day sometimes. I would talk to Trish for hours sometimes. I think I sort of had a crush on her. She/they had that cool English accent. I thought I had heard that Tony passed away. I might be wrong. Do they still have a bike shop(Black Mountain Bikes)? Could you get me the number to Black Moutain Bicycles? Is it still there?

Randy was a friend of your dads? Do you think your dad could get their phone number? I was really close to Debbie and Randy but lost track of them over the years. Debbie was his wife and she was a really sweet girl. I would love to talk to her. Mario Jeter should know the details of Randys passing. I only found out from his DJ website about Randys passing. I'm still sad about Randy dieing and I think about him every day. He did a lot for me and all the team and a lot of other local kids that didn't even race on his team. I worked at Mira Mesa Schwinn while I was on the team. Randy and his dad were great to me. Randy's dad had the bike shop in PB I believe. What's your name SDOlSkool? Did you say you were an honorary member of the MM Schwinn team? Interesting stuff SDOlSkool. Thanks!

Hack rules!
old school PK
Mike,

I've been following this thread as I've lived in San Diego (actually No County - O'side) since '89. I deal with a lot of bike shops in the county as a Giant Bicycle sales rep. Today I was in Black Mountain Bicycles (old Bicycles of San Diego) and Trish and Tony were there. I see them every 2 weeks. Bryan (the new owner) said he got an e-mail from this guy named Mike and I say "Mike Welsh?" and he looks at me weird and says yeah! Then we go into his office and shows me the e-mail with a picture of you with long hair and a bandanna holding a trophy. Another shot has you boostin' of a jump and then a team shot with 4 guys.
The shop is on the corner of Mira Mesa Blvd. & Blk Mtn rd. I'm sure they would be stoked to see any kids (not kids anymore) that hung out when they had the shop with Chris Newman in OB.
Anyhow, you guys got a good crew of BMX'ers from NBA - S district. If you ever have a reunion please invite me as I raced down here whenever we had the chance to come down.

PK

PK,
Great to hear from you man! I can't believe you are talking to me dude. I'm just a nobody. You were way up there at the top of my list of people I idolized! Ya that pic of me with the backwards visor is hillarious. I was 14 in that. It was after my first race. Tony and Trish are the greatest! I used to build rims for them and I used to be a pest and hang out in their shop, Bicycles Unlilmited, almost on a daily bases(lol). They were so nice to me. When the the first webcos, with the single gussets, came out they were one of the first shops to get them and also redline forks. I bought one of each from them. Anyway, I'm in Kansas right now(don't ask...lol) and believe it or not I actually like it here although I miss the ocean and I hate winter(lmao). You are always more than welcome whenever we have a reunion dude! I know that Mike Mendenhall is trying to put something together but I don't know how soon it will be. Talk to you soon. Thanks PK!

I'm a pyromaniac at heart (aren't we all?) and so my reasons for writing this are both self-serving and pointless;however, I really just wanted to see this folder go up in flames.

Hey Mike Mendenhall, you stole my name dude :-) Where have you been racing since El Cajon closed? I used to go out there all of the time. Thought it was cool to cheer myself on from the stands :-) A good friend of mine was crew chief for John Borneman.
