That is sweeet!
Looks like your own design there, MattB.
Is it?
Did you have anything to go by?
From the profile shot it looks like a 24" wheel on the hack, but from the other shots it looks like a 20".
Nice job

Thanks,
OK it's my jump/trails bike.
Standard 250s (2003)
volume mids forks
180 profiles, profile sproket (don't remember what gear ratio hack use) will have to try some
weldgo flats (not sure to put clip pedals yet)
slambars
DK street stem
Demolition-clamp, post,
Odd- seat
Demolition 36 hole rims on bike- 48 hole on side (was hopeing this will stop flexing and less spoke tightening at the track)
It is easy to make the hack look good if you have a nice jump bike to start with. It takes about 5 mins to remove it from the bike and the same to install.
I am 36 years old this year (fitter and turner -welder) I have built a few race cars and stuff. Love to build things from steel. Want to build a chooper next.
The design is close to what I could remember and found some plans from BITD. (not very good but helped me start and get the picture in my head)
I tried to make it simple and light. I have some pics of the build and some tips I can post later.
The bad thing about this story is I finished it at 5:00 pm Friday and rode it for about 2 hours with a big grin ear to ear. Then jumped on my race bike with DC's shoes on with clip pedals turned around and did a quick sprint slipped off the front of the pedal and broke my ankle
Thats why the pics are from that angle siting down ??

Wow nice hack man! Awesome! I always wanted to try one but have never had the opportunity.
Sidehack racing looks cool! I hope there's more variety getting added to BMX racing... more pit bikes, scooters etc. Makes race days more fun to watch!

Very nice Rohan! Mine is at the powder coaters and almost ready for building, I'll post pics when shes done.
I gotta ask, why are most sidehacks always built on the drive side? Mine is too but I wonder if there was a particular reason?

Now this is a topic I can get in on!!! I never saw this thread last year when I got re-acquainted with the sport. Good job bumping it up.
Now that we have Pat and Andy doing thier thing here in So Cal. with thier hack.
First of all, nice build! Second, unless you own and race/ride your hack you would not (and nobody did) notice the "pivot" mount where the hack mounts to the rear of the bike.
At first glance I thought you made a design error by using a simple single bolt mount to the rear axle. My first thought is, "you are going to tear that axle nut right off!" Then on a closer look I see the drop down plate with the tube welded to that, and the hack is "U" bolted to that. BRILLIANT!!!
The rear of the hack can pivot instead of flex.
I was fortunate BITD to have friend, a parent of a young racer, who had a brilliant engineering mind. We would re-work and weld up my hack after every race.
Not to take anything away from todays flat tracks, but Corona, Yarnell, Rancho and Randal Ranch were brutal on our old school hacks.
I hope you guys are enjoying that thing as much as we did back then. I sure like seeing these come back.
Good on ya!

Hey Matt, are you still around?
Would you care to elaborate on the hack you built?
What type of cromo tubing, How you bent it, dimensions, etc?
Thank you in advance.

Wassat Red Baron ? Corona , Sidehacks & Brutal , I don't believe you.

Bridge , it may have been a co incidence but I remember that a few months B4 the finished sidehack got posted here , Matt dropped by & asked me for a few stock lengths of 20mm PVC conduit , a conduit bending spring , 20mm conduit joiners etc & some PVC glue.
Matt's as handy with the Tools as I am with Electricity , but I reminded him not to cut the conduit with the bending spring inside , especially if he was using a hacksaw rather than the conduit cutters I tried to convince him to take & use.
He also borrowed my collection of BMX Pancake Magazines , saying something about an old article in an issue that he wanted to look at.
Then a few months later the sidehack turned up , a refined hybrid with the old school look of the one we used to race bitd , like I said probably all just co incidence

That's Fox on the the pedals & me monkeying around leading @ Blacktown in the very early 1980's
JB
I'll try & squeeze Matt for some more explicit materials , technical , construction information/methods etc on the art of sidehack building , especially for you Bridge

Matt's a very quiet achiever in his way, all the time , unlike his older big brother , who operates from stealth to obnoxiously loud mode in a random manner.

Well heck, if I knew it only took some pvc glue and pancake mix I'd have whipped one of these out a long time ago. shoot, maybe I can email Reilley and get one already completed.
Actually a friend has always wanted a hack (sprinter) and he's starting to talk.....which gets me thinkin.....and in moments of clarity, that is a dangerous thing.
If Matt will give up some details I'd love to hear it.
thanks Jet!

Perhaps a left handed narrow gauge hack from bitd might be worth looking at & re engineering to suit the new school track design , plenty of inertia to pump & jump on something like this.

Yeah they were making hacks like this in Oz back in 1981.
