Anyone ever ride the public track in Westerville?

Might make for a good old school gathering in the spring...

I plan on having my TA built up by then.... I'd be in. Sounds like a blast.

Any requirements to ride there?? (saftey equipment and such)
kmart
Just a helmet. And about 50% of the people wear them...

I went a couple times last year on my full sus MTB but plan on bringing my cruiser and jump bike in the spring.
leftybmxer
if i ever get my looptail quad done,i'm down. i think that heer park bmx is having a oldschool thing this year.
Terrorabbleone
Jeff White(proracer97w on the board) and Jim Porter ride there alot.

Jeff, you still out there bro?

If Heer Park has an old school series again, im down for sure, it was fun last time, but it needs more people this time.
Towerguy43026
How about that...

I'd love to ride there some this year, but in the meantime, how about something to push away the winter blues? I'm thinking some kind of old school get-together some evening. Perhaps even a viewing of Joe Kid with grub on the side?

Jeff White
Japanese Stallion (taka)
All the Canal Winchester Guys (I think there's 3)
Woody's Custom Auto
JB (it could happen)

Who else am I missing? (I know there's a few more of us in the Columbus area)

Chime in if you're game.

*chimes door bell*

Gotta do it on a weekend

I'm interested!

I would be interested in attending depending on when the get together takes place.

I'm game to check it out. Is it better than the Cobra track on the south side?
Terrorabbleone
IMO, the Cobra track is alot better than Westerville. Westerville deffiantly has the potential, but it never gets worked on, the berms are wrong and some of the jumps need changed.
dayride
I may be interested. Especially if it is on the weekend.

I'm down for the winter get together and or a spring old school day at COBRA.

Does anybody have access to a CD/computer projector? It would be cool to do a theatre-style Joe Kid party somewhere in Columbus.

I'm kind of wondering if some restaurant has a back room we could get cheap, and just invite whoever.

Thoughts?
kmart
I could probably snag a computer projector from work....Joe Kid Party sponsored by Honda R+D works for me.....I also have 2 copies of Joe Kid

Agree. Last time out Jim happened to have a push broom with him and that made a big difference, but the track really isn't in the best shape. The other thing that happens in the spring is EVERYONE in Westerville gets the urge to get out and ride bikes. It can get pretty crowded. I'd be down with it wherever though, just give me a shout when the time comes.
kmart
Have you guys checked out the dirt jumps down the bike path? I went to check out the track on one of the warm Saturdays and few weeks ago. It was too muddy to ride, so I took a ride on the paved path and low and behold about a mile away in the woods are a bunch of dirt jumps. They were in need of some grooming but looked pretty cool.

Yeah, those have been around forever. The last couple years they've been getting kinda beet up with kids riding motorcycles back there. They're usually wetter than the track due to being in the flood plain of the creek.

Happy this site exist. Just found out about it.
I would show up for an old school reunion at COBRA. Who else? Lets get that on the books.
I remember working at K-Mart and getting off then going to the track and racingin my shirt and tie with my name tag on! LOL. I was a true local, there everyday and on the '91 board. Me and Teddy Slone.
Shannon and Shawn Williams. Brain Kulp, he is still racing. Timmy Stump (stumpy).
Glory Daze!!

Is Chadrad actually Chad Radford?? There's a name that I recognize! I've been on the Old School Ohio thread, but it's mostly experts from the early 80's. As a novice racer from the late 80's and early 90's I haven't seen too many guys from that same class and era.

I do know that Tim Stump has been on there a few times, along with Kevin Pittman, but I don't recall too many others. I'm presently an Arizona resident but trying to get back to Ohio with work. As far as old school get togethers go, I'm always down for that! Post some dates when they get decided and I'll try to be there!

WOW!! I just noticed that this forum is over 3 years old!! No wonder I hadn't seen it before. Oh well, maybe some more people are around now. Anyone out there race 16-17 nov. around 88 and 89??

Stay tuned for a Vintage BMX festival at Heer Park/Cobra. I am not sure all the details yet, but know thte track director and board are VERY interested in doing something this summer as I have spoken to them about some cool ideas.

More to follow soon.

Wow, never noticed this thread either. I ride the Westerville track a few times a year consider I'm only 5 minutes away. The track is in bad shape, the city doesn't take care of it and they give you a hard time if you try to.
jcarnes
i would like to have the old school race at heer park. i don't care for kettering.
bBoneau
Is Dave Murray still the track director of Heer Park? If so, he's a good guy that has been in the sport for a LONG time and would probably be down for hosting something like this.

Hey guys. This is Mike Schroeder.I am the track director now at Heer park.We are planning on having an ohio old school reunion at Heer park in July.I am gonna talk with Steve Smith this weekend at the state race. I will keep everyone posted on when it is gonna happen. We have alot of ideas for a whole days worth of fun.

Old school race
Matt pohlkamp clinic for the kids
Vintage bike show/swap meet
$300 dollar money open
Possibly a jumping contest on a Jump built just for the day
Cookout

And any other fun stuff we can come up with. The tentative date is July 25.

Thanks alot.

Mike,
Thanks for posting. I didn't want to let the cat out of the bag too soon, but didn't want people duplicating effort either.

Going to be a fun day!

Not to add any fuel to the fire, but will I be able to race with my clips since they make me faster and flats is sooo old school.
Jradical
I see this more as a reunion of old friends; than a race to find out who the fastest old dude on the track is. Perhaps if there is a prize like there was last year it could be more of a random name drawn from participants than just the main event winner? Give the fat old slow dudes a reason to participate? This is just a suggestion for Mr. Steve Smith to consider; it's his event.

Mike made several of the early races at Heer Park (COBRA) but his knee was gone even before that first race there so I think it was only on the days that the knee wasn't too bad.
