Hey guys,

Just want to share my Hutch Pro Racer build. There's a story which I will keep short.

I got my bike (f&f chrome) in 83' , it was my absolute pride and joy and as far as I was concerned , nothing else existed.

I raced this nearly every weekend in Aust, took it to Japan for the 84' World's. Then to Canada for the 85' World's. This is where I met a Canadian chick who also had a Hutch (so we had something in common). Anyway, after the mains we swapped frame and forks (my chrome one for her black one, I wanted a black one from when I saw pics of Steve Veltman on one in BMXA).

I kept racing this for the next two years and then BMX took a back seat. I swore that I would keep my bike for ever as racing BMX was the most awesome stage of my life. This bike has traveled everywhere with me but got more tired in appearance.

Early this year I set to restore to how I had it when I raced (some parts substituted for those that I wanted but could't afford bitd, such as Hutch pedals and seat clamp).

The other thing that I had bitd was Hutch Ti/Mag hubs, but the rear had bearing crush and the front had a broken flange from a spoke getting ripped out in a crash, these then got replaced for GT hubs, which then went on a cruiser that I used to ride, which then got sold. Bullseyes were allways a favorite so they went on this build.

Cheers for your time and I hope you guys like it.

Nice! Black with chrome looks fantastic. And that is a well thought out shot looking through the pedal at the Nora Cup decal.

So what happened to the Canadian chick?

My God that is a FINE build!! One of the best black Hutch Pro Racers I have ever seen. Makes me want to build up mine. The crank/pedal set up as well as the stem/headset set up is primo!!
cyclecraftsteve
That is beautiful. I don't know why, but I always loved the way a Hutch looked, either black or chrome.
Apollo
First class build. I am now convinced of what I am going to do with one of my Pro Racer framesets. That is a great looking Hutch.
Brian B
Very, very, fine build. A lot of effort went into that bike and it shows.
ronoc101
what is the advantage of lacing the wheels like that?

Check out the glare on the brake mount on the frame behind the dia compes...it looks like chrome its so shiny.
JJR
WOW that's a nice clean ride you have there!

Hey guys,

Thanks for all the comments, its awesome to read these.

The majority of this bike was all restored from how I had it bitd, only a few bits are NOS.

The stem, bars and cranks were in poor shape with severe pitting , flaking and the bars were munched from crashes and going over gates that didnt drop. As you can see in the pics these are now mint.

The brake mount on the brake bridge is polished ...lots and lots of polish. Same is for the Profile spider, hubs and so on.

I know that the wheel lacing is not for everyone, but it you ride smooth thay are good. Advantages ..... I think that it looks awesome. Radial lacing was in theory to reduce rotational weight with shorter spokes....... I think saying NO to that burger or cola would have been more beneficial.

Cheers

Radial lacing is cool mate.

Nice job.

There should be repop chrome Hutch pads available soon.

That is a TRUE piece of art, nicer than any Renoir,Picasso,or Van Gogh. You gotta love those Canadian Chicks I met a girl up here last summer and she was riding a Dyno Pro Comp Team Model, I fell in love twice that day.
Walter Holda
WOW! That looks like it just road out of Bill and Ted's Phone booth!! Time Warp!! Beautiful for sure...

Man... very nice... one of the finests I have seen in a long while!
Chris B
Wow that is awesome! Reminds me of my old black XL24 I had once upon a time...Nice decals BTW
leroy
Hey Chris B, yes I owe thanks to your decal set, the only true complete matched sets that exist. Your black 24 was a nice piece of work, I wanted to buy it to join my 20 as that would have made a slick pair.

The Canadian chick was awesome, slick rider, always planned on catching up again however me being in Australia ment that it would never happen.

Reading these comments is getting me amped to do another, might have to be a matching 24. Anyone have a XL24 for sale, and Chris have you got another black decal set.
dugga
that is truly stunning - i love black and chrome.... so what else did you swap with the canadian chick?
leroy
Makes me laugh with the q's about the Canadian chick. Apart from the f&f there was the usual stuff when your 15 and in another country!

Can anyone help me out here, I still have my old Echo open face helmet and Haro mouth guard, I'm gonna paint this up Hutch style, anyone got a good helmet pic painted with the Hutch stripes up the middle and stars on the side?

Also this has given me motivation to build a Hutch24. I used to have one in chrome, but my question is. Should I build up a matching black one or go full Hutch chrome?

Cheers
COASTY
I go with the opposite , chrome with black components for a contrasting effect!
Whatever you do Leroy, it's gonna look killer!
Chris B
Yes Leroy I have 1 black/chrome XL24 set left I think. Chris

And I got a NOS Zeronine Moto Control plate to go on as well, just like I had bitd.

Very nice looking bike. I am almost done with a very similiar build and I was proud to see another black Hutch!

Great effort.
nujo
Leroy,Mark Piotrowski.Did you know him,his also raced at the 84 world championships on a Gt,he was from australia.
leroy
Hey Nujo, I remember a Peter Piotroski (spelling), but not sure about Mark. Peter was either 1 or 2 years under me (I was 14 in 84') and for memory he was riding for SE.

Any idea on age as I have a few of those BMX news for that time. It had all the results in there.

Cheers
